The newest video in my editor reacts to series. This week I'm watching and reacting to Game of Thrones for the first time.
Robert has been injured while hunting and is dying. Jon and the others finally take their vows to the Night's Watch. A man, sent by Robert, is captured for trying to poison Daenerys. Furious, Drogo vows to attack the Seven Kingdoms.
Nine noble families fight for control over the lands of Westeros, while an ancient enemy returns after being dormant for millennia.
Game of Thrones is an American fantasy drama television series created by David Benioff and D. B. Weiss for HBO. It is an adaptation of A Song of Ice and Fire, a series of fantasy novels by George R. R. Martin, the first of which is A Game of Thrones. The show premiered on HBO in the United States on April 17, 2011, and concluded on May 19, 2019, with 73 episodes broadcast over eight seasons.
Set on the fictional continents of Westeros and Essos, Game of Thrones has a large ensemble cast and follows several story arcs throughout the course of the show. The first major arc concerns the Iron Throne of the Seven Kingdoms of Westeros through a web of political conflicts among the noble families either vying to claim the throne or fighting for independence from whoever sits on it. The second focuses on the last descendant of the realm's deposed ruling dynasty, who has been exiled to Essos and is plotting to return and reclaim the throne. The third follows the Night's Watch, a military order defending the realm against threats from beyond Westeros' northern border.
Game of Thrones attracted a record viewership on HBO and has a broad, active, and international fan base. Critics have praised the series for its acting, complex characters, story, scope, and production values, although its frequent use of nudity and violence (including sexual violence) generated controversy. The final season received significant criticism for its reduced length and creative decisions, with many considering it a disappointing conclusion. The series received 59 Primetime Emmy Awards, the most by a drama series, including Outstanding Drama Series in 2015, 2016, 2018 and 2019. Its other awards and nominations include three Hugo Awards for Best Dramatic Presentation, a Peabody Award, and five nominations for the Golden Globe Award for Best Television Series - Drama.

In the show it seems ser Alliser just hates Jon Snow from day 1, for no reason. In the books there is a background to it. Aliser was a Targaryan loyalist during the rebellion, he was sent to the wall after their defeat. So he hates the former rebels, he hates the Stark, and by association he hates jon.

Introducing Tywin Lannister, played by Charles Dance, one of the greatest casting choices in the series. Every scene he's in commands your attention. Book stuff!: Cersei tries to seduce Ned when he says he has to tell Robert and he asks if she said the same to Jon Arryn. She slaps him in response and he mocks her line "I shall wear this as a badge of honor." Jon's selection as a steward isn't done well in the show. Sam is initially held back, meaning that Jon and the rest of his friends will be members of the Watch and he will need to be in training(and abused by Ser Alliser and whatever trainees are sent his way). He visits Maester Aemon to convince him to raise Sam up as well, to allow him to be a steward at least. Aemons steward Chett mocks this and suggests Sam be left where he is until he learns, but Jon is able to convince Aemon by bringing up a lesson he learned from Luwin. He says that the Maester chain is made of many metals, each for a different discipline the Maesters were taught, that just because Sam is not a fighter doesn't mean he's useless and tells him how Sam is good with animals(even Ghost)and how he can read, unlike Chett. Aemon accepts and takes Sam as his personal steward and puts Jon forward as steward for Jeor, the Lord Commander, as he sees how clever Jon is. Yes, Cat was betrothed to Brandon, who was executed by the Mad King. Ned married her in his place and Jon Arryn married her sister, bringing the Tully's and the Riverlords to Roberts side as a result. Littlefinger tried to fight a duel for her hand and he got a scar in the process. Eddard writes the will as "my heir"as an attempt to change things(Roberts heir, technically, is his brother Stannis, who rules at Dragonstone, which used to be the Targaryen home island). When Robert is dying, he tells Ned to look after his children. The first people Ned thinks of are Gendry(the armorer apprentice)and the baby Barra and promises to look after them as if they were his own. Varys's nickname is "the Spider". It's explained that a Lordship is offered for Dany and Viserys's deaths as a reward. There's three main positions in the Watch. The Rangers(frontline fighters who scout beyond the Wall(like Will the Deserter and his friends who were butchered by the Others(their show title is White Walkers, but the Others is so much cooler.) The stewards tend fires and the Ravens, they hunt and farm and deal with trade. The Builders handle maintenance of the Wall and the three castles that are still manned. Sam explains to Jon that his own father did the same, having him pour wine and sit by his side to train him, at least until his younger brother(now heir)was born and Sam proved himself lacking as a fighter and a leader. Jon is serving the Lord Commander(the bearded badass), not Ser Alliser(the bullying master at arms)just in case Lexi. Lexi, lol, being unable to articulate at the end. "This show is stressing me the fuck out!" Well, don't expect that to change soon....

A few different things: :) You probably have this figured out already, but Thorne (the guy who trains the people who come to join the Night's Watch, and who was looking all smug when Jon was named to the Stewards) is not the Lord Commander. So, contrary to what Jon thought, Thorne wasn't actually responsible for naming Jon to the Stewards. The Lord Commander, who does _not_ have any sort of grudge against Jon, requested Jon for his own personal steward. Sam's theory about why is very smart. Robert was an alcoholic, and boar hunting is very dangerous (as, interestingly, you probably also know from LOST. 😀). There was no need to poison him... all his squire had to do was give Robert more wine whenever he demanded it. The scene with Littlefinger talking to his prostitutes about screwing Ned may be my least favorite scene in the first 5 seasons of GoT, simply because it's so contrived and nonsensical, that LF would talk like that in _that_ context. Unsurprisingly, it doesn't come from the books. But, to be fair, the scene does convey quite a bit about LF's motives... he was _never_ on Ned's side, and nothing he "advised" to Ned should be taken at face value.

The prostitutes scene coins what I like to call "sexposition"(ironically, I didn't realize someone already called it that before).It's not necessary at all and was explained in about three lines by Cat when she arrives at KL with Rodrik. There's a bunch back to back in "Garden of Bones"that are just uncomfortable(and obviously, there's Loras and Renly talking while nude and - - - - -SPOILERS Karl Fucking Tanner saying his backstory while several women are being raped around him, sobbing and begging for it to stop. Some of the most uncomfortable scenes of the show.

Not so fun facts: It takes four consecutive generations of incest for any issues (physical or mental) to appear, psychopaths can be born to anyone, & people with antisocial personality disorder are products of their environment. Joffrey's behavior best fits ASPD. "Sociopath is an unofficial term to describe a person who has antisocial personality disorder (ASPD), whereas psychopathy describes a set of personalty traits. However, ASPD and psychopathy can overlap. ASPD and psychopathy share some similar traits, including aggression and a lack of remorse. Sociopaths tend to act more impulsively and erratically compared to psychopaths. Sociopaths generally struggle to maintain a job or a family life, whereas psychopaths may be able to do so. While psychopaths generally struggle to form attachments, sociopaths may be able to do so with a like-minded individual." -- Dr. Anet Varghese, Doctor of Medicine (MBBS), India Additionally, people with either psychopathy or ASPD can benefit from therapy. However, many who have ASPD don't seek it because they don't think that it will help. Both psychopaths & sociopaths can function in society without doing harm. Most psychopaths who are criminals are not violent ones. ❤🧡💛💚💙💜

For what it's worth, Miss Sophie (from Sofie Reacts) once accidentally referred to Lord Peter Baelish as "Middlefinger" instead of "Littlefinger", and decided it was more appropriate. So we have our lessons from the episode: 1) In the Game of Thrones, you win or you die. 2) Don't trust Litt(Midd)lefinger. 3) The corollary of (1) and (2): Being honorable is nice and all, but it doesn't mean that you will win.
@CharmedPhoenix3
@CharmedPhoenix3 Ай бұрын
No spoilers - Cersei has three children. Joffrey (the dickhead), Myrcella and Tommen. Joffrey you know. The other two are younger and were briefly seen in Winterfell in episode 2, asking about Bran and joking with Tyrion (they both have a good relationship with Tyrion) Littlefinger's loyalty at the moment is to himself, he knows Renly is too gentle and Stannis (Roberts so far unseen older brother) is too harsh. He also assumes he can have more input with Joffrey as King, while he definatly wouldn't be able to have much input with Stannis, who is a proven battle commander and leader. As he stated to Ned, siding with Stannis means there will be War and theres no money in wartime, which means nobody spending money in his brothels. The Lord Commander of the Nightswatch is not the man who is bullying Jon. That guy is Alliser Thorne, and he is the Master-at-arms at castle black. When Sam told Jon that The Lord Commander probably picked him to groom him for command, he wasnt doing it to bully him. The Spider is the nickname of Lord Varys the bald headed man in colourful robes.

Cersei plays The Game well while Ned Stark is hindered by honor and refuses to listen to those who try to advise him how to survive and win The Game. You can make a good case for Cersei being responsible for the attempt on Bran's life as well as Robert's accident. Jaime's discussion with her after the attempt would indicate Jaime felt she was responsible and that he thought it was a mistake. Varys made an attempt to point to the real culprit in Robert's accident, his Lannister squire who probably was trying to get him too drunk to kill the boar or may have even poisoned the wine. And the hate Cersei has shown for Tyrion makes who tried to frame him obvious. Once Ned foolishly confronted Cersei, Robert was a dead man walking, one way or the other. And Littlefinger is only concerned with advancing his position, meaning he was quite open to betraying Ned for gold, something the Lannisters have plenty of. He even said as much when Ned asked for the aid of the Gold Cloaks, but Ned was too honorable/foolish to listen.

Go back to Robert's dictation to Ned when he said, "Rule in my stead until Joffery comes of age." Compare that statement to what Ned actually wrote. The Spider is Lord Varys, the Master of Whisperers. In today's terms that would be the head of a spy network like the CIA, or MI6, or Russia's FSB. Lord Stannis of Dragonstone, Robert's younger brother, is next in line of succession to the throne since Robert had no legitimate children. Lord Renly of Storm's End is the youngest brother of Robert. As to you attempting to understand Petyr Baelish's (Littlefinger) motives. Go back to the scene in his brothel when he described he described that he wasn't going to play by their rules. When asked by Ros what it was he wanted he said, "Oh, everything, everything there is." Being drunk while hunting boar with a spear can be just as effective as poison. Given your reaction upon the discovery of Littlefinger's betrayal of Ned, then it is apparent that you are not cut out for this show because such actions will appear trivial to what's to come. Here's a link to a HBO web page which shows the characters introduced by each season. Take a screenshot of it and print it out. www.hbo.com/game-of-thrones

No, he thought he'd bribed the City Watch to take his side, and he went into the throne room fully prepared to drag Joffrey off the throne and into the dungeons. It's a very brief exchange, but Littlefinger says something like "the arrangements are made, the Watch is yours" before Ned enters the throne room, heavily implying that Ned told Littlefinger to bribe the Watch to side with him (which is explicitly what happened in the books.)
