Silence the truth is not kind at all and it grieves the heart of God. Abandoning victims is very unkind. Speaking out in defense of abuse while not educated about abuse is foolish. Making a big issue about being kind while looking away from abuse and defend and enable an abuser is extremely unkind, cruel and toxic. God is a God of justice. You can choose to look the other way. Then if not repentant or willing to submit, you are commanded to treat them as an unbeliever and disfellowship them based on that. You cannot call them a believer and 'lover of God' AND disfellowship. That can't happen among christians. Actually we have the biblical model of how Jesus rebuked leaders and his disciples in public and how Paul instructs us to show us what that looks like. The body of Christ as expressed in a church is not subject to the rules of HR or the whims of boards or CEO's. Boards and CEOs should not be making unilateral decisions rather we should do it the biblical way. Someone who is only doing it the HR way of doing things cares more about how things look than obeying biblical process. The HR process of doing things does not actually accomplish anything for a church cause God has never viewed a church as a corporation and does not go by or hold us accountable to those rules but to scripture. Same goes with resignation--somone resigning has nothing to do with and doesn't even effect the biblical process that must still be followed. Sure a senior leader can just resign from a corporation and just walk away. But it's not that way in a church body--which must insist on biblical process. So that will be the question: is IHOP an expression of the body of Christ or of a corporation? By which rules of which kingdom will they choose to abide by and justify themselves by--the secular or the sacred? But I tell you this truly, Jesus will never justify any action except by reference to the word and testimony of God. Stuff we have done because it seems "right" according to the wisdom of culture or of man's traditions and what "looks good" from that standpoint will all be called foolishness.
