Hemi Ram 2500 & The Dreaded Check The Fuel Cap Light - The Fix (Kind Of)

In a previous video • Hemi Ram 2500 & The Dr... I had a look at a 2012 Ram 2500 with a few EVAP codes (P0456 and P0457) and the constant flashing of the "check fuel cap." We found out that the ESIM switch was bad as well as the pigtail. Napa brought us a new one and it is time to find out if that is all of the issues or not.
-Enjoy!

One of the tips i picked up from the old-timer mechanics was to cut the wires staggered: that way, after you’ve determined the polarity, your likelyhood of screwing it up goes down and you don’t get a huge bulge in one spot of the wiring harness as the crimp-on connectors are on different locations.

Yep stagger each one the length of the butt connector. Or if you’re just soldering, the length of your heat shrink.

Works really well on 46 wired cabling, Solder and heat shrink keeps the bulge to a minimum, also stops any chance of shorting out between wires.

Eric O is a hero among men. If I can do it you can do it is BS. Helicopter mechanic by trade so it takes one to know one. You can’t replace the years of scraped knuckles and late nights. I’ve never met a mechanic that was as honest or hardworking. Take your vehicle to his shop and tip him. He is a dying breed.

People would be surprised just how many different butt connectors are available. My distributor’s catalog has 6 pages of them to choose from. I personally like the nylon over the pvc jackets. Looks way more professional. I keep all four sizes in standard and epoxy filled heat shrink. I keep step-down butts in both varieties as well. Thanks for the great content Mr. O!

There are times I've found that it is easier in the long run to fix a problem or problems you find and then continue testing. Rule out what you know is a problem that needed to be repaired regardless, then continue testing until you have found all of the problems. Sometimes you have no choice other than to fix a problem before you can continue testing. At least that has been my experience. Thank you for the video.

@@SouthMainAuto that's What I said. Just throw a little JB-weld over the outside and move on with life. It's just a work truck and not worth tearing all that stuff apart IMO..... If it were my truck, I might even be dumb enough to wrap a string around a wet towel and shove it in the filler neck, wipe it all down with another wet rag, and blow it all clear with the air hose so that there were no fumes--- and just mig weld it right there in it's place with a few quick zaps. Wet towel for the win.

My Ram diesel had a leak that stumped me for a while until I finally located it on the top of my fuel sending unit which had rusted thru. I put a draw straw in and a few months later another leak. This time it was in the fuel neck which was rusted almost the entire length. I lived in Michigan at the time and drove to work in the winter at 4 to 5 am, the same time as the salt trucks were dropping salt over the night before snow causing a nasty salty slush that got into everything.
