Been to Bangkok many times while I lived in Southeast Asia (Indonesia). Along with Singapore, it is the central travel hub of the region. Henry is absolutely right that you don’t want to wait in the airport (I assume he’s talking about Don Daet - the old airport - but both suck.... because they’re airports). Bangkok gets a bad reputation, but it’s actually a really incredible city. I’ve always gone to one of a couple areas in town with one thing on my mind - food. Occasionally, you will bump into someone showing exactly what he’s talking about - laminated photos of girls in these “love houses”. And that three ring binder thing is real too. Never mind in some guy’s taxi. Right out on the sidewalk. I too have only ever been completely uninterested and also very annoyed by it. But I have never seen the whole 13 or 11 year old thing even once. I have no idea what he’s talking about in that department. Knowing myself, knowing how annoying I already find it to have that kind of thing shoved in my face when I’m simply on the hunt for good food, I’m pretty sure I would have had it out with a person if they were trying to push young girls onto me. Probably would have ended very badly for me, but I’m pretty sure that’s where my mind would go for something horrible like that. Thailand and other countries in the region absolutely have a sex trade. Bangkok puts it right in front of your face at times. The most visible of it exists for foreign tourists. These are extremely well advertised and conspicuous red light districts dotted throughout the city. If you go, you don’t just see drunken and obnoxious Eurotrash being wild and disgusting horny fools of themselves. You see married couples walking through just to take in the spectacle of it all. They are more than red light districts where sex is for sale - they are tourist traps. I have many friends throughout smaller cities in Thailand and even lived in the southern Thai city of Trang for a year. There is an entirely different side to the sex trade there that is geared towards locals. They’re typically denoted by very small drinking establishments or massage parlors around town dimly lit up by Christmas lights. And they’re everywhere. I don’t pretend to know how these places work or what’s available to their customers, but they certainly have an air of being very seedy. Best to stay away and keep driving your motorbike if you end up near one. They give off that unmistakeable unspoken vibe that “this is not for you; this is for us.” Thailand has a sex trade. It has for centuries. But it is technically illegal. It’s weird to be in a place where it can sometimes be so brazen, especially when it’s also illegal. But the idea that cabbies are just waiting to show young naked children to the next white pedophile right out on the street is extremely hard for me to believe. I have never experienced that in the many times I’ve been to that city. I think he’s embellishing for the sake of the story. I have no doubts that this sort of thing does exist for people who are looking for it. There have even been high profile cases of it over the past. But that would be a dark and sordid and almost certainly very hidden world that someone would have to purposefully go looking for to find. I don’t think Mr. Rollins would ever go looking for that and I don’t believe it was foisted upon him out in public. Everything else? Completely true.

I lived in Mae Sot, Nth West Thailand for 2 years and must've done over 30 trips to Bangkok over the years and never had anything remotely like this happen. This sounds like completely made up tourist bullshit.

Just learn a little Thai and your cool. I feel safer and less hassled here than any place in America.
