Hi Ludi quick question : something I never understood about of eu4 streamers and content creators always say that you have to be at peace to annex vassals but it isn't true, only the vassal has to be at peace. Therefor if you enable scutage you can still start annexing vassals while being in the middle of a war

19:53, the answer is pretty simple-no. I'm writing a grad paper on the role of history and mythology on the Fantasy genre and I can tell you that Elvish is actually based on Finnish. Elvish has some words and names coming from Brythonic and Anglo-Saxon, such as the name of the sailor Earendil which hails from an old Anglo-Saxon poem written by Cynewulf in the 9th century.
@VinceDick
@VinceDick 2 жыл бұрын
I remember reading something about it being based on Welsh words and Finnish grammar, but I'd believe your "grad paper" knowledge over my "read it somewhere before the times of men" knowledge.
@WeeBDemon408
@WeeBDemon408 2 жыл бұрын
@@VinceDick You aren't wrong, there are some words in Elvish which are similar to Welsh, Sindarin actually has a lot of Welsh inspired words, with that being said Quenya is more of a Finnish product. Even if there are Welsh influences in the Elvish languages, I haven't actually found Irish roots, maybe there are, my research is primarily focused on Game of Thrones, since I read Tolkien a few years ago. I approach Tolkien's works in my first chapter of the paper as well as Dark Souls, The Witcher and Berserk and then move on to GOT.

Just looked up on wikipedia that Tolkien took inspiration for the elves from both Nordic countries (mainly Finland) and celtic, which includes Ireland, but was apparently mainly focused on Welsh influence.
@Tanuvein
@Tanuvein 2 жыл бұрын
Hm, interesting, from what I've read he had heavy Celtic influence, and I've done my fair share of Celtic archaeology. He describes elven places in the fashion of Newgrange, uses Irish permutations from the Tuatha de Danaan, and even my screen name is based on a the name of a Tuatha de Danaan Tolkien only altered a few letters for elven names. Not to mention its references to the sagas of the Cattle Wars. Even the Barrows and Wights are heavy references to the Irish kings borrowed in ancient barrows the English thought were haunted. Tolkien did write a bit talking about how similar Sanskrit was to Celtic which surprised him. Tolkien said he envisioned the world of Middle Earth as a mythical history of the British Isles, like the Aeneid, Illiad or Finnish Kalevala. The Noldor and the Tuatha de Danaan is one paper that comes to mind. Tolkien did not focus on Celtic or Irish mythology overall, but it heavily influenced his view of elves which he talks about to some degree. He even wanted the German translation to be Alb instead of Alfen, to separate them from the 'Teutonic' idea of the Alf. Specifically this linguistically refers to Albion, the British Isles, because he did not want the elves associated with the dimunitive use from the Victorians who dimunitized many Celtic beliefs, such as turning Lugh, one of the Tuatha de Danaan, into a short god of luck and calling him a Leprechaun. Brythonic was a Celtic language, and overall its likely the Celtic influence was more Welsh than Irish with the exception of the elves. edit: It is important to note that most Celtic words, be they Irish or Welsh Brythonic, do not sound anything what they look like. Tuatha de Danaan is closer to ''tuad jey danaan". The writing comes from Anglo Saxon standards, as my Irish friend stated 'we didn't have a th sound when the English made us use their alphabet'. Welsh and Irish are close enough to be intelligible, and probably before the settlement of the Romans and Anglo-Saxons was the same language. There is a distinct consanant shift however, with Welsh names having softer intonations in a lot of cases.

Thanks Ludi. France is really strong. You snowball so fast with the new patches and AE changes that it's not even funny anymore. What pisses me of to this date is something else, being, that I played England, won against France in the 100 Years war, got a natural Heir with 6 5 5 and than lost the next war against Aragon because of a dumb mistake, getting half my army wiped and then getting the hunting accident. I recoverd the next 10 years or so and still had a great game, but the salt of having a potential glorious game ruined at such an early stage is still in my mind. Seeing you play the last year when I found your channal helped me so much in getting better in making plays and avoiding such a silly mistake. PS: RNGsus is bi*ch sometimes

Just a tip for any new players watching this: Your AE is going to be an issue. Use your diplomats ALWAYS fully employed improving relations with nearby countries, your vassals, and building spy networks when needed. Example the Milanese war for a PU, many small HRE nations will want to enter a coalition against you but WILL NOT if you have positive relations after the relations hit from the AE. You can see this in the coalition identifier for peace for the PU as to what countries will target you for a coalition. Also, when a nation has a truce with you they cannot enter a coaltion so wacth your truce timers like a hawk. Mr historias guide is a baseline, don't feel you have to take everything he does, watch the AE, maybe you got the excommunication war with Provence and took all their lands. Great guide by the way as always.

12:15 Making Brittany a vassal seems like more AE because it shows the maximum AE you get. When you vassalize Brittany it shows 51 because you get 51 AE from Brittany, but the other countries' AE is actually less (Provence 45, Burgundy 37, England 33) compared to full annexing (Provence 50, Burgundy 42, England 42). Since there will be no Brittany when you full annex, the max AE is shown as 50 but since Brittany's AE is not important it's actually less AE to make them a vassal.

Tolkien based elves on the Tuatha de Danaan, a mystical immortal people who lived in Ireland after the monstrous Firbolg and before the humans settled. In the stories a single one slays hundreds of people. Tolkien was a linguist and Celtic mythology was one of his interests, and he envisioned Middle Earth as a history of the British Isles, though not literally. You can see the similarity in names (like the one that ibspired my screen name) and he discusses it a bit in his letters.

Once you sieged the fort down, garrison size went down, so when the ottomans try to retake the fort, they encounter a lower garrison size, hence the quicker progress. The Maine event now counts as a reconquest war for France in 1.33. So you can have an easier war with your allies if you decide to wait for the event to fire.

you dont need allies to fight the english sir. Also, if u wait for it to trigger, u cant get enough warscore to get ALL the cores in france plus the pale and calais, which is why u should declare and get ur warscore from portugal

That is the juiciest France. You should form the Roman Empire because you have literally a foothold in Iberia, England, Italy and the Balkans, you are the Curia controller and the Emperor of the HRE.

Important Tip about Provence, if they are excommunicated DO NOT conquer their lands, and vassalize them instead. If Provence has 100 dev or own Corsica they usually get Cores on ALL of Naples which allows an extremely easy conquest without having to deal 40 years with a PU. The best part about this is that usually they either get Restoration of union or cores depending from Naples being independent or not but when Provence is a vassal they always get cores.

Can you do a guide of how to manage your country in the mid to late game. I struggle managing my wars by this time, cause I manage to become really big, but the time I want start wars for colonies overseas, the AI manges to organize their armies in like 10 different regions the same time, and I focus only on one region the same time. For example I did a Denmark game, were I manage to conquer whole Novgorod, the whole Baltic and Lübeck trade nodes and the whole British isles as well as the the Nordamerikas. Now I also hold areas in guinea, Indonesia and south Afrika were my main rival Spain also is quite present. Now I am using al the automatic interactions the game offers, so I can manage my armies better, but I still struggle to fight in 10 different regions which are far away, the same time. Thank you if you read this comment and great videos

While I prefer to “rp” in my France games, go for Italy and Lowlands and England not Ireland or Balkans, but it is certainly fun to just go ham and dominate Europe from all directions

it would have been good to accept the "knights of st john" event and give away malta, because if the knights are still alive AND epirus is still alive, for some reason malta goes to epirus. it happened in my game and it happened in yours too RIGHT as you vassalized epirus. see 15:55

Ahhh invading Ireland... Did that in a recent Portugal campaign where I got England under a lucky random PU (contested by Aragon who after Castile smashed for me were more than happy to give me their Islands)... I then suffered from England being stronger than me and thus needing to snowball fast with way too much debt :(
Europe? YOU MEAN FRANCE RIGHT?
