A bit sad that it only really works at level 1-5. That sweeping attack is awful for anything with more than 10 hit points.

In what way? Personally, I felt it to be quite nonsensical. Especially the part about Asmodeus not honoring his deal. Because in D&D even Shadow's goddess is much more likely to break deals than a devil.

@@Jamatarecu1 It's more so about the dangers of making deals with devils, especially one as powerful as Asmodeus, and it coming back to bite them in the ass. Devils don't make deals that don't benefit them in some way, and if they can twist them, then so be it (as we see with Asmodeus returning Xiiki's life in a sense).

I guess this is a clash in character ideals. Not like Shadow could bring Xiiki back, so I think it’s rich that Shadow would impose her views despite being powerless to make a difference.

It's more that Shadow isn't very familiar with how death works in this strange land. She believes that the dead should remain dead, but the fact that the dead don't go where they're supposed to in this place complicates things.

@@isaliew you missed the point. Shadow likely wouldn’t have brought Xiiki back even if she could. She’s spent her life burying bodies and performing funeral rites. To her, the dead, no matter how tragic their passing, should be left to rest.

Hey High Rollers, since Kim discovered the ruler tool this time, it reminded me to tell you all about a couple other useful Roll20 hotkeys: First, you can get a movement tracker/ruler by "picking up" your token (start dragging it) and then press Q. You can also press Q again to set a point to angle your movement (like around a corner). Second, and mostly for Mark, you can center all the player views to where you click by holding Shift while pinging the map (hold click). Wasn't a problem this time, but could be useful in the future (like when Trott was looking at only black last time).

That poor village! I know who the people were from DCA and I'm just shocked everyone is dead now! This is definitely the darkest timeline, Mark. I kind of want to just want to watch DCA now and know that's not as dark as this one. I think you've made Chris Perkins proud with the amount of horror you've poured into this changed up version Mark. Shadow was right to go off on both of them since making deals is the worst thing you could do in Barovia! Even turning into a vampire isn't half as bad when you consider who Xiros made a deal with! And Shadow is right about them losing because that's what always happens in places like this! Got me feeling all sorts of feels now!

I think both Tom and Rhi are too sweet of people to have responded as they should to the way they were talked to by the group. If my group had done that I would have some pretty powerful responses for the RP. I’ve had situations like this and watching the playback is always awesome. These are the best moments for a group. Really shows how powerful RP can be for the storyline overall. Great episode.

Actually Xiiros "response" was pretty good and in character. You can regret the results but not the decision. So if you don't have anything good to say, other than to feel like you got your word in, it's best to say nothing. Knowing damned well you would make the same decision given the same circumstances.

I think that xiros wouldn’t have responded in that way because he doesn’t seem like the type to waste unnecessary words to placate or convince someone who doesn’t agree with him. Tom said that Xiros knew the decision was selfish, but he didn’t make the decision for the group, he made. For himself.

if you read the main desc of Blade Flourish it states you can only use 1 per turn so while the damage buff is for only one attack you can not get the benefit on a second attack as well.

honestly, I don't know that Shadow understands Devils, you absolutely can trust them to honour their deal, they are magically bound to do so what you can also trust them to do is trust them to hurt you as much as possible within the bounds of said deal, but they will never break the deal

I think that’s more of a Kim misunderstanding of it all but yes Devils will not break deals they make unless it benefits them to do so. This deal is to prevent Strahd from completing his goal so he won’t break this one.

The thing with devils is they deal in half-truths and misdirection. It's a bit like prophecy in that what you hear is always what you are lead to believe. There were plenty untruths spoken by Asmodeus and if anybody was smart enough to notice they wouldn't have taken that deal. Kim's RP is on point as she is speaking as Shadow Beyond the Veil. Which is two major mistakes you are making while delivering your own lecture. I completely understand Xiros pathos and utter desperation. The whole point is that it leads him to the objectively terrible decision. And that may be a problem if you're RPing and take personally something born of excellent choices for narratively juicy RP. The other part is not taking what your fellow players are doing quite so personally. And while it can be a challenge it's also good advice for armchair quarterbacks such as yourself.

I'm confused as to why they had to flee vilaky? They only had to avoid being discovered by the guard right? They didn't do anything publicly wrong that I remember. They weren't seen going into the old burgermaster's house and the place wouldn't be regularly visited anyway. The only potential thing I remember is killing the bones but they weren't identified and the bones weren't really approved by the lady anyway. The deals were hidden from the govt lady as well. Didn't they just have to avoid being identified as doing mischief in the night or am I forgetting something? I thought they would just hide in the storage yard until morning and check into the inn in the morning and act as if nothing happened?

Having just had a fight there and the Myskans and Shadow being very unique creatures could provide a hell of a lot of evidence. Not to mention that if anyone had spoken with the former burgermeister's son they would probably get ratted out straight away. Though it had more to do with their fears and the fact that they had lost their only safe house in town. I'm sure they potentially could have stayed though if they were clever enough. However it was the Tome of Strahd that Yesper's reading had brought them there for. So they didn't have any other business in Vallaki anyway.

Mark also said something about her not needing to sleep at some point. Perhaps she has become a reborn? I'm not really familiar with the lineage's complete attributes so I can't say that with any degree of certainty however.

I totally agree. At the end of the day, none of them would be there if not for Madam Ava and Yesper. So he has absolutely no right to judge them on anything. It’s his people that have facilitated everything Strahd has been able to do. He most of all cannot say anything about what someone does.

I think that it’s totally justified. Yesper knows how the deals and how terrible un death is in Barovia and Shadow literally is a GRAVE CLERIC who observes the natural flow and order of things. The deal was foolish and in all honesty should not have been made. Xiros made the deal out of emotion and selfishness due to the fact that he did not want to carry that grief, even if it meant selling his and his sister’s soul. Xiiki made that deal with beings she does not understand because she did it for Xiros. Not only that, their deals are lowkey conflicting meaning that either way, Xiiki’s soul is going to return to Barovia unless they find some loophole or gain the aid of a different god or goddess.

Question how does Xiiki gets spells slots back if she doesn't really have to rest anymore? I suppose mechanically she still has to long rest?

Xiiki still has to rest, but she doesn't have to sleep. A long rest is 8 hrs of no strenuous activity, it doesn't necessarily mean sleep. For example, elves only need to trance for 4 hrs, but they still need to spend 8 hrs on a long rest.

It's the fact that the issue got dealt with and people kept repeating the outdated information. Just one of the reasons Sage Advice was removed as an Official source. But don't let that fool you as the errata stands.

@@MorinehtarTheBlue I suppose I misunderstood your comment. It's not outdated information if it was only corrected externally. I do not personally recognise any external errata that is not incorporated into the core rulebooks, because I do not go out of my way to find every change that has been made. If I go out and buy a brand new copy of the 5e core rulebooks (Players Handbook, Monster Manual and Dungeon Masters Guide) from Wizards today, and the changes to the rules have not been included in copies printed since the change was made, they are aditional/optional rules that are not part of the base game. I'm sure I'm not the only one who doesn't go out of my way to find all the corrections made externally. Until a change is corrected in newer printings of the material that is being changed, it is not yet an official change.

It isn't simply a dice roller. The same program that Mark is using for the battle maps. It's a comprehensive system so they use it as it's right in front of them along with their character sheets. The random numbers generator isn't always so wonky but I've seen it happen on a number of actual plays. The Virtual Table Top has been around for about a decade and it's something people trust. Though with this kind of behaviour I wouldn't be using it. And I've played a number of games on the Roll20 server. I also don't quite trust people with the honour system. Even at table rolls are expected to be out in the open (with some exceptions regarding the DM).
