Saturday June 29th, 2019! For the weekend, we took a spontaneous road trip vacation north to Nelson, BC. Throughout the trip we goofed around, ate bad, and visited Ainsworth Hot Springs as well.
This video showcases our hike to Kokanee Lake in Kokanee Glacier Provincial Park. It was awesome and a very scenic hike. The Trailhead to this hike begins at Gibson Lake in which we car camped in the night before, which was just as scenic as Kokanee Lake minus the 4.5km/2.9mi hike! You can see Gibson Lake in the very last shot of this video.
We made it to Kokanee Lake in right around two hours. It wasn’t a bad hike at all. Once there, we planned on trekking onwards to Kaslo Lake, but due to weather we decided to turn around and head back for the car. This hike is definitely recommended if you’re in the area.
All in all, this hike took us 3.5 hours to complete and that was with stopping multiple times to eat, breathe, and take in the scenery. We gained 1423 feet and descended 1465 feet.

It was awesome! Kind of hard to believe there is a full on lodge/cabin if you keep following the trail to Kaslo Lake. Heading up to the Banff area for four or five days in September. Any suggestions beside the normal Louise/Morraine??

@@DannyJSchaefer ummm, not too sure what to say because everything is so well known... Maybe try Mt Edith if you're up for that? Or reserve the bus ride into Lake O'Hara

@@DannyJSchaefer Today we actually only did the Old Growth Trail near the bottom of the road and Gibson Lake because the snow was deeper than we planned for :( We'll try again in a month!

Was the road you took to get there paved or was it an old mining dirt path?
@DannyJSchaefer
@DannyJSchaefer 4 жыл бұрын
It was definitely an old dirt road that was pretty rough at times. That said, we made it up in a Prius so I’m sure you’ll be just fine 👍🏼

Danny Schaefer Hmm I visited in October and we went up the road in a 4x4 truck but had to stop and turn around as one of the bridges were washed out. Saw an “Active Grizzly Bear Area” sign got freaked out and turned around lol. Does it sound like we were at the right place? It was definitely an old mining road with a bunch of rock slides and such. We doubted that we were since it was so difficult to get to and the reviews on sites said people made it there in cars.

The body of Canadian Prime Minister's brother Michel Trudeau is in that lake : He was taking a backcountry skiing trip with some friends in Kokanee Glacier Provincial Park when he was swept into Kokanee Lake and unable to reach the shore. His companions were unable to effect a rescue, and drowned. An extensive search was launched, but his has never been Parents: Pierre Trudeau, Margaret Trudeau.

I had no idea! Now I’ve been researching the event for the last 15 minutes. It’s eerie to me that they never were able to find the body, as I couldn’t imagine that lake is incredibly deep. Craziness. Thanks for commenting that!

@@DannyJSchaefer You saw the lake , Do you really think a former PM's son could not be found in that tiny lake . Here on Vancouver Island Cowichan lake is 25 times longer 2x deeper and 10x wider and a fisherman drowned in the deepest part and they found his body . Avalanche in early November is very rare too .
@DannyJSchaefer
@DannyJSchaefer 3 жыл бұрын
@@michaellebreton4294 Man you definitely have some valid points.. It's hard to speculate it, but you're right - the lake isn't big, nor did it seem all that deep. November avalanches are very rare here too, and it only makes you wonder right?

So did we! It was a weird Walmart. The street light poles in the parking lot literally had signs saying, “no overnight camping.”
