Got this album on vinyl when it came out, has a hype sticker on it: "This record contains NOT one hit single". I grew up in the 70s & 80s, graduated high school in '82. It was kinda fun buying a record or 2 or 3, knowing one or maybe 2 songs on each one, then not being able to wait to get home to drop the needle on them to see if your purchase was worth the $ spent. I still have all my records.

THANK YOU Alex for finally reacting to Anthrax! Anthrax is my favorite out of the big 4, but i like and seen all of them live many times! I always felt that Exodus, Testament, Death Angel and Overkill are certainly worthy of being a big part of the thrash movement in the 80’s. Anthrax was different from the other thrash metal bands from the 80’s and they took chances...they were having fun while writing songs about social and political subjects and Steven King novels plus mixing they’re love of rap with metal music..with they’re song with Public Enemy “Bring the Noise” and that helped create a whole new sub genre of music. I think you should react to the most recent songs from these bands a see how they’ve progressed. Here are some suggestions Metallica-spit out the bone Anthrax-You gotta believe Megadeth- the threat is real Slayer-Repentless Exodus-Salt the wound Death Angel-The Moth Testament-the Numbers game Overkill- Electric Rattle snake I think you’ll be blown away with what these guys in they’re 50’s are still doing these days! It’s pretty amazing

Anthrax is a more light-hearted East Coast thrash band, while Metallica, Exodus, Slayer, Megadeth, Testament were West Coast thrash. Another great East Coast thrash band that's been doing it for years is Overkill. Check out one of their classics, Elimination. I wouldn’t call this your last pillar. Metallica, Megadeth, Slayer, and Anthrax are called he big four because they are the biggest thrash metal bands ever. In my opinion any metal band you see is a pillar. Especially the original metal bands because they influenced all the future bands in some way. You should really find a band you really like and start listen to more of their songs. I loved Iron Maiden and now I own over 100 Maiden songs (on iTunes) and I have seen them live. You shouldn’t make reaction to every song. If you really want to be a metalhead listen to the less popular songs in your own time.

Just a little background info. The big four are not the founders of metal, but the big four of thrash metal. They had a huge influence on the metal in the 80s with their speed and without them metal wouldn't be the same today.

MEGADETH is my personal #1 metal band of all time. The musicianship is what always brings me back for more. Most fans hate changing band members...but in Megadeth's case, I think it's what makes them such a diverse band. With 15 stutio album's and not one of them sounding similar to another, it's amazing. Btw the founder of Megadeth Dave Mustaine was an early member of Metallica and he wrote 1/2 of Metallica's dabut album.

I graduated high school in 1991, so I grew up during the perfect time for metal, straight through the 80s and early 90s. It really was an amazing time for music in general between metal coming into its own and where rap was at the time also. It was just a crazy decade for music. As far as more selections from Anthrax, Among the Living is an amazing song, based on a Stephen King novel called “The Stand”, I am the Law is another great song, based on the Judge Dredd comic books and Caught in a Mosh is a crazier song, though really good. Of those three, Amkng the Living is my Favorite and Caught in a Mosh is last, though still a great song. Other songs from other artists I’d love to see you do is Orion or Call of Cthulu from Metallica. Both are instrumentals but they are fantastic songs. Also, check out Pull Me Under by Dream Theater...it’s a great song to introduce yourself to them.

Yes, there was some nonsense. Anthrax is not one of 4 founders of metal. Metal is 50 years old, while Anthrax is 37. The big 4 your'e talking about is big four of thrash metal. The major pillars of metal are Black Sabbath and Judas Priest, others will also mention Motorhead, Saxon and some more bands. Black Sabbath are considered by many as the first metal band ever and you have to listen to them! Read also about their guitarist, Tony Iommi. When he was 18 he lost in an accodent 2 fingertips and still became one of the greatest and most innovative guitarists, he is called master of heavy riff and godfather of metal. Black Sabbath are next on your list! Obligatory!

@lefthook4878
@lefthook4878 6 жыл бұрын
None of those bands mentioned were thrash..the big 4 are the big 4 of thrash, with Slayer being the fastest / hardest / heaviest. You could also add in Testament, Overkill, Exodus to that list. The bands you mentioned, while still metal were quite a bit weaker than thrash metal except for Venom, which was more linked to one of the foundations of Death metal though not quite full blown conceptualized death metal as refined by Chuck Schuldiner and Death.

Spreading the Disease was the very first Cassette tape I bought for myself. Before I relied on copies of tapes, borrowing them, having someone mix something up, etc. I rode my bike down to the sam goodys, I think it was, and bought it. I was blown away. 86, I was 13. It was kind of a cool time. Since music was so hard to find, when you got a tape of something, or someone made you a tape, it was a BIG FUCKING DEAL. To be able to listen to it when you wanted (although with some fast forwarding and rewinding, oh wait, which side of the tape was that song on again?) was pretty cool.

THIS song in particular I consider to be one of Anthrax's most iconic of the 1980's... especially to Me, Myself... having been born in that decade. Anthrax is part of the Big 4 of THRASH Metal specifically bro. Which is a sub-genre of Metal as a whole. However Big 4 of METAL in general in terms of influence and historical importance then I would say; 1. Black Sabbath 2. Judas Priest 3. Iron Maiden and 4. Metallica

As much as I love both Iron Maiden and Metallica they are not among the four bands that had the most impact on metal. There is a reason that IM is in the new wave of British heavy metal. Besides Sabbath and Priest it's Led Zeppelin and Deep Purple. Without those four you wouldn't have the metal we have today.

Alex Love your attitude toward music!!!!! I am a Metalhead but I love lots of other music as long as it has something to say or makes me feel something! I do prefer it hard and heavy! You should check out THE PROPHETS OF RAGE!!! Also Anthrax has two eras and the John Bush stuff is really great, a little different butt is still Anthrax!!!!! And the best of the big 4 Anthrax , slayer, the first four Metallica, and mega Seth!

Dude! Anthrax was the FIRST band to colab with a Hip-Hop act. Gotsta get yo Metal + HipHop on!!!! Check out Bring the Noise with Public Enemy!!!!! Anthrax also created RapMetal in 1987 with I'm the Man! These boys paved the way for something new and exciting. Bring the Noise showed that the two styles work perfectly together. Hip-Hip/Rap engaged with intercity and disenfranchised black youth, and metal does the same thing.
