I LOVE the misdirection! "Florida has Plague!" [it's California!] 1979, I was stationed at Fort Hood. A large contingent of troops from the 13th Signal Battalion were transferred to Camp Irwin, just south of Death Valley. We were providing communication support for joint Air Force/Army exercises. We all got inoculations before departure...including Bubonic Plague! Turns out that the jack-Rabbits in the region were all infected with Plague.. Ironically, more Soldiers got sick from the shots than from the Rabbits! California has so much Plague that the Army gave us shots...still makes me laugh inside.
