In all fairness the F-14 may be horribly outdated but it is still a formidable interceptor platform. It's radar may not be new but its still decently powerful and its one fast missile truck once it gets going! Imo its in a similar place to the MiG-29 where its a great airframe thats somewhat let down by its antiquated avionics and high running costs. But as non-stealth point-interceptors go it's honestly still adequate given more modern missiles.
@just99118 ай бұрын
True… but I would wager a fair bit of money that the fuselage and wing roots of those airframes are not in good shape. Iranian pilots likely cannot push those fighters very hard due to risk of literally flying the plane apart. The f-14 was especially maintenance heavy compared to other craft of its era. The decades of use and long term lack of spares must have had some significant cumulative effects.

@SweatyFatGuy8 ай бұрын
@@HawkGaming3721 both, most of us are male. Nobody really cares about men, and the only time men care about other men is when they have been through the same hell as the other guys. Also people see movies, and they think they know what the military life is like. You can watch Pvt Ryan or any other movie a thousand times and still have no clue what military life is like. You have to live it to understand it. However, its not the same for men and women, even in jobs where nobody is gonna get whacked. Women don't get the same experience, its vastly easier for them, and they aren't in danger of getting kicked out for someone claiming they did something she didn't do. She can do that to us though.. and a lot of them do exactly that. Four times in my case, for saying hello, good morning, and how you doing. If something happens to a woman, everyone gets wound up and loses their minds, like the blond chick who got captured by the Iraqis in 2003. Nobody other than his family and friends care about men. Its just how it is. The sense of humor comes from dealing with hardship and danger together with other men. It gets dark, and after a while overly verbose with $4 words, because NCOs have to write all sorts of things a very specific way, so we end up with a massive vocabulary. Throw in the stress of being isolated, probably not getting any nookie for years at a time, and the chance of being unalived at random even in peace time (because someone made a mistake like the NCO squished like a bug by a C17 spoiler in 2004 when they didn't disconnect the wiring before working on it, or my bud from my first base who was on one of the helos zapped by friendly fire in northern Iraq) and your sense of humor gets 'interesting' and usually off putting to civilians. We sure do get the empty platitudes since 2001 though, nobody said anything to me when I came back from the sandbox in 1992, but I get it all the time now. Its getting to where I hide the fact I am a vet when I am in public.

Habitual, a bit of context on that whole Canada Nazi thing; To my understanding, and from what I've been told, the speaker of the house, despite being a member of a political party, must stay completely neutral in their actions within the house, much like in the US. The speaker has their own office, much like how the Prime Minister has their own office - and by that I mean staff that help them organize their duties. So in short, what basically happened is that no one in the House of Commons - including Trudeau - has access to his invite list the speaker had made for Zelenski's visit, with the exception of parliamentary security. Due to this, although everybody had their own invite lists, only the speakers list was confidential to everyone else, by virtue of being a constitutionally neutral member in the House of Commons, and for Trudeau to ask for that list, or for Trudeau to interfere with that list, would be a severe breach of power in terms of the speaker. Unfortunately, our safeguards from abusing the speaker position is the same reason why this was allowed to happen. And in the case of the speaker, he himself wasn't aware of the person's history, because the person was a constituent of his writing, and did not reveal of his Nazi history, only revealing that he fought for Ukraine. And even though he was a part of the SS, it gets even muddier because there are a number of Ukrainians who fought for the SS in order to fight off the Soviets so they could stay independent of the Soviets. Therefore, it can be very difficult, if not impossible, to determine whether he did the same war crimes as the German SS committed, or if he simply joined the unit so he could defend his homeland the only way he could. And yes, I know that some Ukrainians were following SS policy, and they definitely deserve to be persecuted. My sources are a combination of a variety of media sources, as well as speaking to my local MP who clarified the speaker situation for me and why Trudeau didn't intervene until it was too late. It's a mess, I know. Sorry eh. 😢

The speaker belongs to the Liberal party. I understand you have not been part of their photo ops before, but I can assure you, every effort goes into making them look good. The problem is, they are not very bright, and they did not do their homework, which is not uncoomon for them. Repeating excuses like you just did there, do nothing to change the fact of what happened or whom is to blame. You litterally are doing their damage control for them.

Yeahhhhh, as a Canadian this was terribly embarrassing, I wish the speaker would have had just a bit more background check on his invite. The speaker himself was quite good and he did resign because of this fiasco. The worst part is, we are stuck with this part of history now. We wouldn't ever knowingly applause anyone who served in the SS. I look forward to applauding Ukrainians who didn't serve in the SS and defended their homeland. Slava Ukraini!

Tomcats and "that movie" created some real characters irl... My first CO was an ex-Tomcat jock. Amazing ship-driver. Great leader. But he was def a mix of movie characters!! Drove a red Vette with obligatory hull number license plates. Had a hot new model gf almost weekly that hed bring for a tour of his ship.( not sure if was showing her the boat, or showing us his new girl, but we appreciated it!) Always had a cigar stub in his mouth. Would somtimes hoist a few with the crew, and was always in touch with what was going on, although on duty, he was all-business. The tomcat is to this day my all time favorite jet...its just still mean looking and manages to look cutting edge and outdated at the same time. Sadly its no match for a raptor in its state. Watched a guy do simulated fights with it and out of like 20 engagments only one once due to bating it to swerve and then shutting off all safeties to allow the wings to extend all the way at full speed to turn as sharply as possible and rack rounds across the raptor. Dont know if thats even a maneuver a human experiencing that many Gs could do and the damage report effectivly put the tomcat out of comission due to dammage pulling it off. So essentualy even the win was a tie. Wish we never sold our tomcats and just gave them another retro fit.

Love your work. It reminds me of the old military comic book manuals. Making complex geopolitical issues simple enuff for guys like me. I'm a Canadian vet, and fully own that our government foged up big time. We hire them to be good a details, like balancing a budget and checking guest lists ( i know , i know, we picked poorly with this last batch of overpriced civil servants) But keep in mind that a lot of Ukrainians fought for the Nazis because the Russians were starving and killing Ukraines already. It's not clean, and a lot of these Nazi run units committed war crimes. There are two things to keep in mind, the Ukrainians who fought with the Nazis and later emigrated to Canada, were already investigated by the British (many were held in England after the War) and found nonguilty before being accepted in Canada. And second, a lot of foreign fighters ( British, Canadan, and American) for present-day Ukraine are placed in English speaking units. Several of these units have described themselves as fascists or, in some cases, active Nazis. As i said, it's not clean, it's a cold fact that when you are on the edge of your country being overrun, you will use anyone who is willing to fight for you. Are these foreign troops Nazis? I highly doubt it. There may be some that believe that trash, but overall, i believe they are fighting for a free Ukraine. Like always, the world is seldom simple and often far less palatable than many in North America believe.
