History Quest First Look
You guys know that I have struggled with what to use for our history curriculum. For whatever reason, history is one of the hardest subjects to get a clear secular take on. Even more rare is a genuine, non-whitewashed glimpse into the past. I am hoping that History Quest Early Times from Pandia Press can fill that void for our 2021-2022 school year. This is my unboxing video and first impressions of their Early Times curriculum. I am excited to begin this study with my girls. Share with me below, how do you pronounce Hygge? Give me tips on how you have implemented History Quest.

It's my first year trying it too. My son will be a first grader this fall. I'm waiting for it to get here with all his other curriculum then I plan to look at it all together. I think we are just going to feel out what he likes to do and what I have time to do since I also work from home. I'm just a go with the flow homeschooler. (:

We just use the usborn book for reference. We don’t do the additional reading. We only do the history log but not additional activities. We end up doing it all in 3 days. One day for the unit, one day for history hop, one day for the journal and usborn book. I was overwhelmed but once we got into it we loved it.

Hi, I,d like to share a story with you: History us not just in books, it,s all around us When I was in my teens, I was friends with a World War One veteran. I used to visit him and listen to his accounts of the War. I recall asking him about Sgt. York and hearing about him directly from my friend. Through listening to him, the First World War came alive for me. This is just one story I could tell you. Try to seek out older people who can speak of experiences they went through, have them tell you and your children about them. Visit places like Gettysburg PA, check out biographies, especially autobiographies, there are many sources of History to be explored beyond a few textbooks.

I absolutely agree. We took the opportunity after a trip to Paris to show our girls pictures of them in the same places as pictures of Hitler during the invasion. We toured the Louvre trying to really impress upon them the significance of Napoleon's rule. It was wonderful to be able to remind them once we reached the lesson on Napoleon that we had stood in his bedroom little more than a year before. Seeing history is so much more real than reading about it.

I have used the 2nd and 3rd volumes. So far, I haven't seen or heard anything that gives me any issues on it being secular. However, volume 1 which I am coming up on with my younger kiddo, covers biblical times 🤷‍♀️ I have no first hand experience with it.

Hey, just hopping in this chat, hope you don't mind! We are currently using SOTW ancient times. Haven't read it all yet, I'd say we are half way through. It has Moses and Jesus in it and that's it from the Bible I think, so its not like a huge chunk of the book. It does talk about God in these parts, but it also has stories about the ancient Egyptian gods, the ancient Greek gods, the Buddha, hindu gods and babylonian gods. To me it doesn't feel at all biased towards christianity and kind of talks about all these different gods like they actually existed. Tbh, my biggest problem with it is that probably about a fifth of the book is dedicated to Roman history, but other than that we are really enjoying it.
