History Quest Review
I seem to get so many questions about History Quest. I also seem to be unable to 1) remember that it is Early Times and not Ancient Times 2) remember how to pronounce Hygge as HOO-GAH and not HUG-Gah. Hopefully, you all love me anyway! We have really enjoyed using History Quest. It just seems that we have found a great way to fit this into our homeschool that isn't too little or too much. I do imagine that when we are back to 1 single history curriculum we will be diving even more into the many other activities included in the Student Guide. For now, it has been a very nice addition to get both of my girls a solid understanding of the early times that also doesn't oppose our secular viewpoint.

I am happy to share. Lindsey Sodano, the author, is amazing! She just started releasing a secular rival to a common language arts. www.hearthandstory.com/product-page/complete-5th-grade-language-arts-package

We are loving HQ! We recently started pairing it with CKLA units about the same ancient civilizations, just for more discussion prompts and comprehension questions and to tie in some themed fiction. It's been hugely successful for us thus far! Glad you are loving HQ too.

We are using History Quest, Early Times. I add a lot to it, though because my 2nd-grader hates history so I make sure that we have a great art project to do nearly every time we study history. Last week, we did a project from "Art of the Ancients" (an Art program that goes along with ancient history) that used the rules that Egyptians had to follow when putting paintings on temples and tombs. I have also added reading some of the chapters of Curiosity Chronicles to History Quest because I feel like it covers certain aspects of some of the time periods a little better and my 4th-grader loves to read it along with me dialogue-style. Sometimes my 4th-grader and I read it at night for her bedtime reading if I don't think her sister will sit for it. We just have the text book for Curiosity Chronicles, not the activity guide.

We did the Epic of Gilgamesh on KZfaq too! I tried finding it at the library and failed. I was glad to find the video! My kids watched each of the 3 parts multiple times and retained a ton. Winner!

Love this! thank you! I just found your channel and I’m so grateful for it. I’ll be honest I never knew what secular meant but it’s exactly what I have been looking for. I just didn’t know the name for it. I appreciate all your videos and all the helpful information.

I'm so glad that it's been helpful. It took me so long to find the homeschool style that fit my family. Secular was definitely the answer.

I know this is old, but I have been ALL over your page trying to piece together a secular curriculum lol! We are going to purchase the First Grader Timberdoodle kit, but you have me pretty convinced we are going to omit Story of the World. SO I am looking for a good alternative. My one question is: Is History Quest too much for a 6 year old? Is it going to go right over her head? She does have ADHD and she's actually closer to a kinder level than a first grade level especially for reading. So I worry about comprehension and attention span.

You don't actually need history that young. We have done history as a family, so my now first grader has done it for 3 years. Just keep the expectation reasonable. My little one asks to do it because we do the fun projects and coloring. I don't need her to ace any tests, but I'm certainly happy to be planting the seeds. Btw, we love HQ and they have a sale coming up!

@@MakingEverydayMagic I was thinking that too.I did consider just taking it out. I know she doesn't *need* it but wasn't sure if I wanted to do nothing or do something just to introduce the idea. And honestly I need the refresher so it would be for me more than her haha!
