There are 26 units and a conclusion so I just bought the Avery numbered tabs with table of contents (amzn.to/3tVFVNA) and made a tab for each unit except the Hygge History ones. :)

This looks like fun! It's wonderful that you've found something that both Bailey and Quinn may use - that halves the cost per student! I would love to have seen the cuneiform tablets - when I was Bailey's age, I'm sure that I would have engraved something smart alecky like "please invent ice cream" 🤣

I am trying to decide if I should use history quest or curiosity chronicles. Does anyone know the difference in what is taught? the areas and information? I almost want to use both, is that an overkill?
@MyPerfectlyImperfectMomLife
@MyPerfectlyImperfectMomLife 2 жыл бұрын
Those are the two that I was going back and forth between when we were finding a curriculum as well. While I haven't used CC specifically, what I gathered is that it's more of an overview of Ancient History and has more workbook-type activities (crossword puzzles, vocabulary, coloring pages, timelines, mapwork, etc) than crafty ones. I REALLY loved the fortune teller review game that CC includes and that was what almost had me choosing that one lol! What ultimately made me choose HQ was that the activities were more crafty and that's what my girls love to do, so I thought it would be a better fit. They were also 5 and 7 when we started HQ so I just didn't want to add more workbook activities since they already had enough with other subjects. BUT, I plan to cycle through Ancient History again next year and will most likely use CC as a supplement so I don't think it would be overkill to do both depending on the age and interest level of your kids 🙂 Here is a link to CC's table of contents so you can compare topics studied with HQ :) I personally think if you were to try to do both curriculum options in their entirety it might be a little much, but I could totally be wrong too. I definitely think there would be value in implementing the parts of both that work best with your family though 😀www.curiositychronicles.org/table-of-contents-1

Any chance you know the difference between History Quest and History Odyssey?
@MyPerfectlyImperfectMomLife
@MyPerfectlyImperfectMomLife 2 жыл бұрын
Hi Clark! I apologize for the delay in answering your question. We were camping with no internet access 🙂History Quest has replaced History Odyssey Level 1 for 1st-7th grade. They no longer produce History Odyssey Level 1 but in case you are considering a pre-owned copy of it, the main difference is that Odyssey uses a combination of Story of the World and Evan Moore History Pockets to teach the different time periods, whereas Quest uses it's own published reader (which we LOVE!). The current History Odyssey that Pandia Press still sells on their website (and has no plans to replace), is for grades 6 and up. So the main difference there would just be the grade level it is appropriate for. I hope that helps! Feel free to ask further questions if you have them :)

@MyPerfectlyImperfectMomLife
@MyPerfectlyImperfectMomLife 3 жыл бұрын
Hello :) You can absolutely do this curriculum with just the reader and study guide. We have the Encyclopedia but it definitely isn’t necessary. It is more of an enrichment rather than an integral part of the lessons. The recommended books are enrichments as well. We have purchased some from Thriftbooks and get some from our library but the curriculum is fun even without the extra books 💜

History was always my least favorite in school. I am learning so much teaching my daughter but it's so hard to find a curriculum I like (and she likes). This sounds so interesting. Did you make your table of contents in your binder? I love the binder idea.

Me too! I always wanted to love History but it was just so boring to me. Now it has become one of my favorite subjects lol! I bought the tabbed dividers that include the table of contents and they give you instructions on how to print it if you don’t want to write the unit names in. You could totally make your own too though 😊❤️❤️

Thank you so much for this detailed review. I’m looking to add this in to my 51/2 year old’s day. Is your 5 year old still enjoying it? I understand there are no pictures so I’m wondering if she will enjoy it this year ( she will turn 6 later in the year) or if I should hold off for now? I’m also thinking about curiosity chronicles for her so I’m quite confused 😂
@MyPerfectlyImperfectMomLife
@MyPerfectlyImperfectMomLife 3 жыл бұрын
You're very welcome 😀 My 5 year old (Quinn) does enjoy it, however we don't require her to participate if she doesn't want to. 95% of the time she does choose to join in with her big sister though lol! I'm very much in the camp of minimal "schoolwork" for the younger ages and maximum unstructured play since all of the research is proving play to be far more beneficial. For that reason, we have Quinn do the game-based Mathseeds and Reading Eggs with a mix in from Teach Your Child to Read in 100 Days a couple times a week. Her work is done in less than 30 minutes usually. Then she has the option to join us for Science, History, Art, etc... but isn't required to. Basically, that's a super long-winded way to say that my recommendation would definitely be to use it as a fun thing you do together, rather than a "we need to do History" type of thing. But only if she enjoys it. Otherwise I would wait until 7/8 years old. I don't think I would be doing a History curriculum with Quinn if it wasn't for the fact that we have a 7.5 year old doing it already

@MyPerfectlyImperfectMomLife

A lesson can take anywhere from 15 minutes to an hour or so depending on whether we are doing a project or not. 🙂 I would say the average lesson without a project is around 20 minutes ❤

I'm so sorry for the delay in responding! I didn't get some comment notifications in the past few weeks so I just saw this today :( In case you're still needing the information, the main difference between Quest and Odyssey is that Odyssey uses other books as their core while History Quest uses their reader as the core. HQ still suggests additional books to supplement though. HQ is being made to replace the level 1 series of Odyssey

Hi! Does it come with an answer key?
@MyPerfectlyImperfectMomLife
@MyPerfectlyImperfectMomLife 2 жыл бұрын
Hello! I apologize for the delay in responding, we were camping with no internet access. The study guide doesn't have a separate answer key as most of the activities are open ended or crafts, but in each Unit there are short answer questions and the answers to those are printed directly under the questions. It does include a Map key in the Appendix as well.

This seems very similar to Story of the World although the study guide looks more user friendly than SOTW's activity guide, I think. What made you chose this over SOTW? I'm still seeking out a secular history program even though I have SOTW on hand. lol Also, do you know if they are going to print other volumes to cover all of history?
@MyPerfectlyImperfectMomLife

Ultimately what made me choose HQ was because it is secular. I really wanted something that discussed religion in regards to the role it played in history, but did not present faith based beliefs as factual. We are still loving HQ so much and it is one of our favorite subjects ☺️ Pandia Prese has a policy of not releasing publication dates until it is within a month of release but they’re definitely working on more. Early times was released 2019 and Middle times was released 2020 so my guess would be that the next one will be coming in 2021.
