It's true. Hoi4 often runs very slow because in each battle the game runs a realistic simulation to determine an ever more realistic outcome.

What also hits hard is looking at the casualty count every time you look at the war summary screen. The deaths man... The huge losses from the AI divisions getting steamrolled or failing attacks

It's honestly creepy to think about how HOI4 is basically only a map with figurines moving around representing soldiers fighting, but we don't see what they see we only see if we are winning or losing and don't care if we lost a couple thousand men, the battle is either won or lost, and that is all we care about. Just like commanders and officers in real life, giving orders and making new war plans somewhere distant, while not knowing what is going on the front, and the casualties for them are just numbers just as they are to us, as long as our casualty count is low it's good. But not because it represents the amount of men coming back home, but how many more men am I able to throw in this deadlock battle?

@@user-kt3jk1vq9o I mean if you have super-heavy or even just heavy tanks with CAS and gun-train support you can breach it relatively easily, you could also put a bunch of Strat bombers to bomb the Maginot down and then most of your CAS bombing trains and trucks to starve the french, then maybe you could paradrop behind enemy lines while you push, theoretically doable as Germany.

While I was in the army as a young sergeant, my team sergeant gave me a book called "The Mission, the Men, and Me" and told me to learn its lessons well. In short, the success of the mission always comes first, then the safety your men, then finally in last consideration comes your own safety. Just something to consider for how you think about military operations and planning.

At one of my games as Germany, I managed to conquer USSR using 20 tanks units, 3 and a half armies of infantry and 10 paratroopers and the army of my allies (as democratic Germany) to hold the ground. I captured USSR in 2 years never attacking during winter (strange things happens in No Step Back's winter) and ending the war with only 700k casualties (I could had less KIA, but I did some planing with the HOI tool and forgot, then the infantry went to attack places with dozens of units).

Bro, once I had a war playing as Japan, and I was fighting against the Qing Empire with Napoleon. At the end of the war, I lost 8 million people. That’s bad enough, but the French lost 45 million, and the Chinese lost 60 million. Taking all the other countries in the war, and adding them up, it was almost 140 million people.

When I first played paradox games (ck2) when I watched how quickly the numbers dropped in my first ever battle I lost my shit and was so suprised. Two years into playing this game and I don't care to think about it anymore.

Anytime I play hoi4 I always look at the casualties menu so anytime I do war I just micro everything to have the least amount of deaths but to inflict the most.

@@gerald1495 accurate,about 6 million of soviet losses were desths for military,of you include 27 million figure,20 million of them were civilians

yess and this is why i love rome total war. In hoi4 you can only direct troops on the map in the total war series you can actually experience the battle itself. Closest thing I have ever played resembling the amalgamation of those two is the wargame: red dragon.

Honestly that's what got me into paradox. It was how the game let your imagination run. Imagining how a battle goes when you win but your king is killed in battle and all that remains is a few artillery men and decimated infantry.

I tend to play my runs with as few casualties as possible. I like to tech up and mass produce high end tech because I feel incredible guilty with all the deaths.

From time to time, I sit and think about this. I mean, of course it is a game, but I kinda imagine what these guys have to go through. And then I remember when I want to take a city at all costs - and suddenly the manpower is not important anymore. Just like for the Generals, back then. Damn. . .

Imagne if one of your soildiers dies and The game made a little sound. When your troops are circled and they are being destroyed you are just hearing PIIP PIIP PIIP for a long time
