Today we are building a mini street racer quad with a CR 125 two stroke dirt bike engine. the dirt bike engine makes around 36HP so this thing is going to be FAST! its definitely going to need a wheelie bar and some good brakes. I'm taking inspiration from an old project called the mini green atv that I built years ago. I want this mini street quad to be similar to it but much faster!

I would recommend going to a larger rear sprocket now and a smaller front sprocket. Because it’s a 125 it’s going to love the high RPMs and if the gearing is too low it’ll bog and be nearly impossible to takeoff from a stop

it might be handy to make a few machinist jacks for use on youre welding table , in combination with an electronic level it would make it eazier to set thing up "floating in space" before building the frame for it , you can even tack the jacks to the table so they dont move , that and some pieces of solid bar to set things upon it should make thing a bit eazier even when the surface of the table isnt straight

Perhaps take inconsistencies out of the table by using something similar to milling machine screw jack stands. Set hieghts even with cheap DIY laser. Tack weld bases to table if required. Bit easier than the hydraulic pedal lift table with extensions I suggested some other time..lol Great stuff as always ....

You could straighten that table out then put a cross brace underneath, however if it's expanded from heat by welding etc... then it may warp anyway unless you use thicker steel. Great project keep it up 👍

Your table is concave "pillow" because you have welded support structures around the edges, and welding/ heats has caused some minimal shrinking on the edges. So, weld a shortish test weld under the table in the middle, and see how much that welding/ heat will straighten out that table surface.
@hunnybunnysheavymetalmusic6542
@hunnybunnysheavymetalmusic6542 Жыл бұрын
I've actually used the reverse welding method to straighten out steel tables and benches. I have a 250 ton press I am building, and one of the issues was when I put support braces under it, this drew the top of the bench plate downward, so I had to cross weld the entire top of the bench plate to draw it back into place. The bench plate is originally 5/8" thick, now it has two 2" wide by 1.25" ribs down it, and then about [at a very gradual taper] between 0.293" - 0.187" of weldment all across the top. By the time I am done with this thing [it will be a compiled series of videos on my channel eventually] it will weigh about 1000 lbs and have over 160 lbs [pre-burn weight, probably more like 100 lbs final weight] of weldment into it. I am using some hydro-formed c-channel in the uprights [they were being thrown away on a construction site I was working on and the project super said I could have them], and they came to me curved, but while filling them out to make effectively solid bars out of them, this is straightening them out as well. There is a lot to be said for using welding to straighten out [or deliberately bend?] steel that could otherwise not be changed [as in if one lacks big enough power equipment to either bend or un-bend it by other means than welding].

Depending on how that expansion chamber on this thing winds up being configured in the final version you may want to add some sort of heat shield over it to avoid burning your leg. In the initial mock-up it looks as though your right inner thigh will be almost laying across that thing. Ouch. perhaps you could reroute that exhaust down lower to avoid the problem, however.

FYI it's a really simple formula to figure out what top speed your gearing gives you. All you need to know is your max engine RPM, your gear ratio, and your tire outer diameter. Would give you a decent idea of what gearing to use instead of guessing on every project and having to redo it.
