Good video as always. I'm trying to diagnose an older accord v6 which I think has this transmission. It drives, but I wouldn’t say it shifts normally. It hesitates quite a bit on 1-2 shift and bangs into gear pretty hard when selecting Drive. Any thoughts what could be wrong?

Interesting tear down thank you, not many baya videos I found when searching. I have one in our 03 accord that seems to shift fine no issues other than a leak from the axle seal on the drivers side. Discovered quite a bit of lateral play in the bearing so getting ready to replace it. Is this a common issue? Doing the removal myself and looking at buying a replacement from synchrotech out of California or Best deal transmissions and parts out of Woodmere NY. (eBay seller) Any experience with either or advice?

Gary Ferraro Thank you for replying. Worked on it today. No noises or vibrations that's what surprised me. Very tight drives like a new car. Had a faint rubbing sound like bearings or brakes at a lower speed. Have installed new brakes and rotors and just discovered the front wheel bearings are a little noisy when turning by hand so sure that was the culprit. I removed the axle and inserted a socket the was same size diameter as the axle splines, and the play is definitely in the transmission differential. I live in southern IL around Mt Vernon. Decided on synchrotech out of California I think, have done a lot of research and they seem reliable for quality remans. Today I emailed the tech there a video of the play in the bearing and he thought it had failed as well. Before seeing the video he stated it was not a common failure on these units. We just purchased this vehicle a week prior and it has a date written in sharpie marker on the bell housing of 3/6/2011. It was a bank repo and is a clean solid car otherwise. But I found the rear engine mount not bolted down along with one of the transmission mounts cracked. Thinking this could be the possible reason for the failure depending how many miles it was like this. And ironically I'm thinking this was left like this when the replacement trans was installed before. Every connector, wire and hose etc was put back like factory and looks like competent mechanic did the job but possibly forgot that one crucial engine mount.

Hey Gary! I'm working on a 2005 Accord with 3.0L V6, 140K on it. The initial complaint was it all of a sudden began slipping when coming off a stop. 3rd gear clutch pack was all black and the fluid was dark brown and stinky. After a full rebuild, converter and replacing the shift solenoids, it still slips from a stop, but reverse works great. The sprag is in excellent shape by both my eyes and a trans shop. The line pressure was way low, about 10-20 PSI at low RPM with one wheel off the ground. All of the valves in the valve body snap back when released, no major debris was seen upon tear down. I'm about ready to put the case back together again and reinstall the trans to see what happens this time. Any suggestions about what I need to look for before I put the case together again? Thanks, Randy
@GaryFerraro

How are the CPC Valves? check the linear solenoids, if line was 10 to 20 psi, the car may not move. Original problem was what? any codes?
@AnotherWisenedOne
@AnotherWisenedOne 5 жыл бұрын
@@GaryFerraro Thanks for the speedy reply, Gary! I replaced the A and C shift solenoids and also the 3rd and 4th pressure switches. The operating range PSI for the 3rd and 4th switches were way out of the park with the test rig I cobbled up with a 30 PSI gauge and regulator. I can't find the readings I wrote down, but it's not a big deal to retest them if you want to know the numbers. Some "brand new" ones I bought were bogus and had to be sent back for a refund so I could buy some others at a slightly higher price. As to the CPC linear solenoids, I can hear them operate, but do not have a manifold cobbled up yet to test them. I've got some Aluminum plate here that I could fab one up from with no problem, if I knew how to plumb the damn thing!. I'm a semi-retired amateur rocket scientist/machinist/welder/mechanic, etc. My GF will be forever grateful to you, if you can help me to get her niece's car fixed and out of her garage so we can finish restoring her 1984 380 SL. CJ is a total gearhead! Never met a woman like her before! Unfortunately, I didn't think to check for a CEL or any codes as I just assumed the trans was a crispy critter inside because the fluid was so foul smelling and 140K miles on it. I mean it was BAAAD! Some of the worst I'd ever come across in all my years of gear box work. The original complaint was high revs and little forward movement when put into Drive. Reverse worked fine after I put it back in a few months ago. Had I known to do so at the outset, I would have dropped it down into first manually to see what it would do then. I figured that it would be like the several Honda four speed boxes I'd done at the trans shop over 4 years, just a quick drop out and replace the worn parts, this is my first 5 speed box. Randy & CJ

@@AnotherWisenedOne Ok, just tell me again, what is the car doing now, slipping in drive and reverse ok? or reverse slips too. Where are you located?
@AnotherWisenedOne
@AnotherWisenedOne 5 жыл бұрын
@@GaryFerraro Right now, the car is not going anywhere as the trans is sitting at my house, half apart. In Drive after the rebuild, the RPM were way high and the car barely crept forward at all to the driveway gate on level ground. So rather than risk burning up the first gear clutch pack, I slipped it into reverse and it backed up into the garage again just fine! WTH? When I first tore it down, I was surprised that the low clutch pack was not nearly as burned up as third gear was with all of that slipping going on. The frictions were a bit scorched, but not burned down to bare metal. During the rebuild, I tested the shift solenoids for continuity with my meter, but my friend from the trans shop said that you can't test them that way as the valves might be sticking closed or open. So I bought new ones. I'm in San Bernardino and CJ lives in Riverside, which is where the car is still sitting because I can't find anyone who can give me even a fair idea of what to try next. Honda just wants me to take it to one of their stealerships and won't tell me a damn thing about the unit. Why is everybody so tight lipped about it?? If I knew how the fluid flows through the linear solenoid pack's valve body, I could cobble up a test rig for it and see if it's working properly or not. I abhor doing trouble shooting by changing parts. Even cheap ones, which the linear solenoid pack is not! I got sick of seeing that done too much when I was a fleet mechanic for SoCalEdison for 15 years. Logic should be able to tell me all that I need to know. If I can't get some good idea(s) to try out or things to look for, I'll be forced to just slap it back together and hope that it will work OK. BTW, I have Bill Brayton's book on this trans, but he doesn't go into any issues with shifting or anything, just a pictorial on how to take it apart and reassemble. Many thanks, Randy and CJ.

Gary, Had my BAYA tranny on my '03 Honda Accord rebuilt 4 years ago, getting 30k miles on the rebuild. I have a loud whirring noise and the tranny would not engage, do you think I have a plugged internal filter? I suspect the TC probably failed and some of the clutch material from the TC probably plugged the filter and so the pump is just cavitating (starving for fluid) and not getting fluid lock up pressure. Sometimes it would lock up and drive shifting through the other gears but at other times it will not engage and engine rpm would just go up with no movement. What are your thoughts about the problems I described with my tranny?The electrical connection on one of solenoids got broken, is it okay to use an aftermarket ( which is 1/5 the cost of the OEM)? i replace both, but if your inner race is worn you could usually just replace the gear and you will be ok, make sure you get an OE low gear, there are aftermarket ones but they do not work. The one way clutch set-up from the dealer is pricey i actually use a certain GM sprag on the hondas, works well but if you do not set it up correctly it wont work. Ok, when you do the overhaul make sure the clutches spin free after the drums are built, watch the 2nd clutch, i've used new steels in the past and had clearance problems, had to reuse the old steels

It would have helped if you would have stayed out of the way of the camera so I could see what you were doing. Its hard to see when your arm or body is blocking the view.

I do have one question. I appreciate your teardown video. It did help a lot, and I was able to figure out the few things that were difficult to see. My only real complaint/question is... I don't see a rebuild video. Do you have one?

Gary Ferraro it seems to be saying you're either out of hard disk space or memory, but I've seen that error before. it's usually the software, you can get other video editing software for free and it'll let you use the higher settings. it is a false error message that is the fault of the software.

Can you recommend an editing software?
@eksine
@eksine 7 жыл бұрын
Gary Ferraro I keep seeing recommendations for windows movie maker which is free and probably already on your computer. something to know is there is a chance the operating system is partially corrupted so reinstalling it could fix it. you would know if other areas of your computer have strange errors or crashes that you cannot explain. before assuming anything you would pinpoint your problem by trying to edit your video on other computers, like a laptop or on a friends computer, etc. here's the other free softwares: Windows Movie Maker. VirtualDub. ... Wax. ... Avidemux. ... FFMpeg. ... Blender. ... ZS4 Video Editor. ... Cinefx Jahshaka. the only way is to research and test.
