Well done. This has to be one of the most impressive youtube videos I've ever seen. I'm going to have a go at this but I think I'll get a second gearbox in the mean time so the car can at least be used and it can become a supply of spare parts.

After watching the grief this repair put you through - & I mean your work & attention to detail were absolute god level - I just decided to go ahead & shell out the 3 bananas For a quality used unit with a 90 day warranty from a shop out in OH, Torque converter included. $306.96 for a direct swap-out, complete with a TC, vs going through all that? I'ma just chicken out & wave buh-bye to the 3 Benjies. Maybe I'll pull the trigger on a rebuild for the old unit once I've got my 79 Courier back up to snuff as a 2nd vehicle. But for now, ain't gonna chance it.

I just got a JDM unit and my gut instinct was open it up to check it out and guess what the clutches are in pretty bad condition so even if you get those 90 day warranty trannys they probably need a rebuild which is why they were taken off the original car in the first place.

Fantastic videos SwishLife, I too have never worked on any type of transmissions. I'm currently getting ready to drop the auto trans in my 99 2dr coupe Accord 4cyl. 2nd gear is completely gone and not working. I was going to just drop the transmission and just swap it out altogether, I will open up the old one and see what needs to be replaced and try to fix 2nd gear and reuse it if possible? It's videos like these in such great detail that help millions of others such as myself to try and tackle big diy projects our selves and save hundreds or possible thousands learning on our own. What other you tube channel did you refer to that showed you how to rebuild the transmission? You mentioned it a few times, had great info. I can't find that with 5 parts to this series, it's a lot to watch again. (Can't find link in description) Also your video is quite helpful, even if you don't rebuild the transmission, this can help with a transmission swap if you don't want to rebuild. That takes some determination my man! Keep it up, I hope the transmission is still holding up after all that work you did! :) Thanks!

@@SwishLifeGarage Thanks! Indeed it has convinced me that I can at least swap out the old transmission for a replacement on my own. I'm like you, I have even more limited room, rental unit garage, and I don't have a place to pull all the parts out and clean them properly on a bench like you did. I figure maybe get another years use of the vehicle and sell it on for more money than I can get it now due to the bad transmission if I swap it out. People love these 6th generation Honda Accords, and I've got the two door coup, no rust. Spent it's life in the desert. The engine is still strong, easily take it to 300k if the transmission wasn't bad at 250k. Thanks again!

Your determination was awesome brother. You have a great attitude. I was wondering about the torque on the nuts for the 3 shafts 145ft lbs seems pretty high. Your videos are awesome good job. You basically did one of the hardest mechanical jobs that can be done. You can rebuild anything now.

O'reillys the brand is Corteco, you will also need a new filter, torque converter, and might need to change the steels depending how bad it is.

Internal filter for the trans I’m assuming? Never messed around with an auto so it’s all new to me, rebuilt several standard transmissions tho

Tom Rockstroh yes the internal filter, think it had cost around $50. I’ll probably try to rebuild a manual trans soon.
