I collected my Honda e just over a week ago, and I'm pleased to say the range is better than I was expecting. The delivery date was delayed by about a month (July to August time) so that a software update could be made to the cars (already in the UK) before delivery to customers, and that update seems to have improved the range noticably. The demo car that I drove at the end of June only seemed to give about 100 miles per 100% charge, but my car (with 16" wheels rather than the wider 17" wheels) seems so far to be easily giving me about 145 miles range. From my calculations I'd estimate that the usable battery capacity is about 31.2 kWh, rather than the about 28.5 kWh of the demo car and the early cars like the one Bjorn drove. In the demo car I only managed 3.6 miles/kWh but in mine I'm getting about 4.6 - 4.8 miles/kWh average. I'm very happy with that!

@Jay Em you mean like the honda hybrid / ima battery systems? I hope you are joking.
@Pikminiman
@Pikminiman 4 жыл бұрын
@@jorakarandas6592 : I agree, Honda's IMA hybrid system isn't very good. I should know, my daily driver is a 2006 Civic Hybrid. But the reliability data seems to indicate that Honda's current hybrid system is extremely reliable, and it shares nothing with the old Integrated Motor Assist (IMA) system. IMA is basically a belt-and-pulley CVT transmission with two electric motors. It adds complexity compared to just having a transmission. The new Honda hybrid system, however, has no transmission at all. With such a common point of failure just gone, it's down to the reliability of the electric motors, which are ridiculously simple mechanisms and proportionately reliable. Unfortunately, Honda has really fallen behind on hybrid car efficiency. Honda offers better hybrid car driving dynamics and performance, but at high speed, a current Honda Insight gets 42 MPG while a current Toyota Corolla Hybrid gets 54+ MPG, meaning the Honda gets 22% worse fuel economy at best.

It is 12.95kWh/100km WLTP. Kona Ev 64kWh is 13.22kWh/100km. Model 3 LR DM is 12.94kWh/100km. Seems to me it is at the pointy end of efficiency. Range is simply a function of battery capacity. If they had a bigger body, they could fit more cells and the range would rise proportionally.

Inspired by Bjørn and his testing procedure, I have done the same 120 km / h test on my Hyundai Ioniq 28. Constant 120 km/h GPS i.e. on Ioniq 125 km/h on cruise. The total distance was 50.9 km. Air temp. was 24° C and battery temp. at both start and end also 24° C. No A/C. The trip was done with a consumption of 14.6 kWh/100km. Return trip was 15.8 kWh/100km. The overall average was therefore 15.2 kWh/100km. This consumption that Ioniq achieves here, there are hardly any other electric cars that can cope with.

People need to stop with the whole range anxiety and battery size craze. It's just a huge waste of harmful and expensive lithium. 90%+ of people don't even drive 150+ km nonstop. So for nearly all people this battery size is big enough, if the car had a bigger battery they wouldn't use it at all and just carry around the lithium batteries as dead weight, so for nearly all people a bigger battery would only have big drawbacks. Stop the range anxiety and battery size "arms race", start right sizing.

@@Mgoblagulkablong Big batteries lose a lot less capacity over time. They don't get as much charging cycles and almost never discharged below 20%. For example 2014 Teslas still have 80% - 90% of their factory capacity, while Leafs require battery replacements.

@@yourcrazybear For me range is not the most important thing. It's the speed and availability of fast chargers that matters. I drive a Tesla M3P, and do around 50.000 km/year. I also drive longer trips of up to 1.000 km in a day, and I see no problem having an electric car, since it charges at 175-250 KwH/hour, which means a 15 minute stop every two hours.

I really like this car, even though it's expensive. To me the range is not an issue as I would use it as a city car. I recently got a smart fortwo EQ which has less range because I wanted a small car. I had owned an ICE smart fortwo and balked at the 80 mile range of the BEV version. So I checked my Google maps timeline for the previous 3 years and my longest car journey was 70 miles, and then on just three occasions. I'm pretty sure I'll get this at the end of next year unless something more interesting is on sale by then.

This car would be great for driving around Oslo in, but long distance would obviously be tough. Still LOVE this car tho!!

So Ford has started putting convex mirrors on its side mirrors, and it's *really* helpful... Maybe these "video mirrors" will follow suit...

Honda e has the same size battery as the Mazda MX-30. Will you be able to get your hands on the Mazda to compare?

@@bjornnyland Just tell them you have many banana boxes. I'm sure they will hand one right over! Should have a clear advantage over the Honda.

Damn that read mirror though. I normally don't like wood as it looks like shit in expensive cars. Here it's not shiny and looks actually quite ok.

Those tires are great, but there is definitely some range and efficiency to be gained with dedicated eco tires. Strange they went with Pilot Sports on this car.

There are 3 problems with Honda E, despite the japanese craftsmannship: a. short nose: collision issues in an accident b. ultra small trunk: not really suited for a shopping city car c. a perfectly executed Mazda MX30, with perfect layout / size for the same price

Even in The Netherlands the range is not enough to go from the middle of the country to one of the corners (Groningen or Zeeland). A drive from less than 2 hours.

Its a very nice car, but what lets it down is the price. Given the competition from many other EVs in that price range, I don't know how anyone can justify owning one. It's just a fashion accessory at the moment. Maybe next year when they see the poor sales they will lower the price to a more reasonable level. The battery is still too small for a 2020 Ev regardless of what they do.

In the table of weight distribution (around 5m 54s) it lists the Honda e as having a 45.5kWh battery pack. It should, of course, be 35.5kWh.

I know that Honda themselves admit the 17” wheels make a big dent in the range. I also wonder what the range will be like once they have some experience of how the battery copes in the real world? Will they do a Tesla and update the car to allow for more range?

Even with 16inch you will get 10% at most... They can only unlock some of that buffer but again, at most 10% and you will lose some of the speed of charging at top buffer... It is what it is...
