2006 with 147000 miles on her still my favouite touring machine

First, I'm 63, 5' 8, been riding since 10 yrs old, the st is sport touring, not quite a gold wing, not quite a cbr, I own a 2010 with 8k miles, bike is plenty fast for what's it intended. Handling is very good, yea it's a big bike so common sense tells u its especially heavy with full tank of gas in tight spots, adjustable height on seat, adjustable windshield which is phenomenal, wish it had a 6 spd for highway droning, brakes are strong, large tank permits 300 mile adventures before fillip, silky smooth, shaft drive, no cruise control or heated grips, I installed Oxfords which work fine, very comfortable ride, adjustable rear suspension, locking detachable bags, lmo it's a great bike for weekend trips, daytrip, u can carve pretty well but I wouldn't, maintenance is pretty minimal and not a arm and leg, very dependable, if u like a used st bike and not a cruiser type I would go with the honda, although I still like the old concours, I just can't deal with carburetors and storage and sucky fuel, honda is the way to go for this application, hope this helps those that are on the fence choosing.

Thanks Sean, great review. Love my 03 st1300. Owned 5 years. Not a glitch. Delkavic exhausts, heated grips and seat added. Super fast, comfortable, 300 plus range. Lil tall, makes heat. Polarizing looks. You either like it right or not. Self oil change not to tough. Keep brake fluid fresh and ride safe everybody.

Possibly the best bike Honda has ever made. I've had mine since 2010 and it's done more than 70000 miles - still looks fantastic, rides great, super comfortable, totally reliable. My 2005 model was so well engineered it even passes the London emission ULEZ zone - I had to get it independently certified, but it definitely qualifies. Dash and features look a bit dated now but still a fantastic ride.

Whew! Had to check my garage to make sure my 2012 ST was still there. Love my ST-1300!

I have a 2004 ST1300, fricken love it and that nearly 8 gallon tank is just a beast! Great as a touring bike with a sporty flair.

I own a 2011 ST1300. I'm hooked. Will never own another model. I just love riding it.

I have over 120,000 miles on my 2003 ST1300. Replaced front wheel bearings and a few batteries and windscreens. These are really good on tire life. The adjustable screen is the best. The motor pulls way better than my 1200 Ducati Monster. Not in the same league (just 2x as heavy). The only downside is no electronic cruise control. If you are coming off sport bikes you will drag the pegs a lot. Once I'm on it a while I don't drag them. I really needed an aftermarket seat. Butt I am heavy. Rocking a used Corbin seat. 2nd best money I ever spent.

2008 ST1300, the smoothest bike I've ever owned in 50 years of riding. The heat "problem"? It's hit or miss with these; as is the dreaded deadly "wobble." I live in Birmingham AL, and we're no strangers to heat and humidity; my 2008 ST has had no heat issues; it's fine. I don't baby this bike, but I'm no hooligan either; there's no high-speed wobble with mine at any speed, with or without my Givi top box. It is a heavy bike to push around. So don't do it. That's why there is an engine down there. Use it. It IS a very balanced machine, and above 4mph you will not notice the weight while riding it. As you can plainly see, there are ST detractors and there are others who love the crap out of it, the st-owners forum has about 15K members internationally, so yeah... it has a following, as do many other bikes. If there is a "perfect" bike that is all things to all riders, I've never seen it. Despite the reviewer's silly comment about "buttons", his naked hands, and his basic unfamiliarity with this machine, he hit the high points -- comfort, adjustable windscreen, adjustable seat (unless that was a comment here), fuel range, quickness and handling. Look at some videos of police rodeos to see how these bikes can be maneuvered in tight spaces... it's up to you to practice, and it's not hard at all. As an MSF RiderCoach, I can do the U-turn box all day long, and I'm talking the smaller box. Practice. You should do that with every bike you own. It's not for everyone; yeah it could use cruise control (there are several aftermarket options), heated grips / seat (there are options there too), bar risers, lower footpegs, highway pegs, saddlebag protection / tipover bars, RAM mounts, etc. Any or all of these can be added. But you will be hard-pressed to find a legitimate sport-tourer at this price point today, with this level of range and comfort. Don't be afraid of "high-mileage" examples; this V-four engine runs and runs and runs. And runs well, and smoothly. Look at st-owners.com which has been around since the ST1100 was introduced; there is a wealth of information there. The MAJOR thing to be aware of with used models is when they sit for a good while, the Secondary Master Cylinder gets pissy and will likely need to be replaced; it controls the Linked Braking System and will lock up the rear wheel if neglected. All of this and more is discussed and resolved on st-owners. It's a great bike, and one I won't likely sell. Ever.

I realize the is an old post but heat coming off the engine can be reduced a great deal by installing the rubber trim for the fairing. It is available from Honda and yes, a little bit pricey. It made a big difference on my 2005 ST. Best bike I ever owned. Also, if or when you replace the steering head bearings, do it with tapered bearings. Stable now at 40 mph with no hands. Enjoy until you get so old you have to get something that doesn't weigh as much.

I have an 05 and love it, I will be taking it on a 1500 mile trip next summer. Super comfortable and stupid fast.

I just rode to Sturgis and back over the last week from Colorado Springs on my 2006. Fantastic bike and no soreness. 1k miles round trip, plus all the rides in South Dakota, just put about 2k total on it. Mine has 76k and still strong as ever. There are some great upgrades out there too. Anyone looking for a bike in the sport-tour genre, this is definitely a recommendation. Love This Bike!

LoL!!! Dude, I was watching this video to get some pointers about my new purchase and was getting motion-sick as Hell!!! I was finding myself tilting my head into the turns, and looking for visual and auditory clues of traffic and threats around me. if I hadn't scrolled down to the comment section...there would have been regurgitated grilled cheese,and minestrone soup EVERYWHERE. It was like being on a roller-coaster. And that one-sided audio only magnified the effect. Man- GREAT video, and it confirmed i made the right purchase. I've had mine since 2004. Done lots of touring but also up in the twisties keeping up with the pure sports bikes. It kind annoys them as they see me as a tourer!! Great bike. Wish Honda would upgrade and release a new version with updated displays. Other than that, this is the bike for long distance. Very comfortable in all weather!!

I have a 2007 that is pristine and just magnificent,,, its powerful and handles like a sport bike, when honda did this bike the let a VFR and a Goldwing mate and they made a ST. its just an insane machine. its gonna stay with me til we die...

I owned this bike for 3 years. Super smooth nimble on its feet very easy to ride awesome horsepower for the highway. It’s more of a two wheel car than a visceral motor cycle

Still have great memories of riding on the back of my dads st1300. He got it from sold old guy for 10k with like 5k miles in 2003

I have a 2009 - and love it. 71,000km's, OEM Honda Pan European top box, OEM Honda heated grips. Only wish I could ride it 12 months of the year! (Canada...)

I have my 1100 for years now and tryed the 1300 from a friend for a whyle. All i can say ..........no, i am not selling my 110 for the 1300. My 1100 is way better at higher speeds and with the cornering.. Maybe its just me loving my bike and not wanting to trade it in for another. I ride 700 km in one go and i will have no worry ,backpain or whatever at all. Maybe a little tired lol done it several times.

I ride a CTX 1300. Detuned for torque. Wonderful motor.

I used to have a VFR 800. Rode an ST 1300 the other day and it BLEW the VFR out of the water. Unbelievable pull in every gear. Very comfortable seat and handlebars.

Thanks for the vid! I don't know anything about the ST aside from what I've learned here... but I would assume the ST would be just as dependable as an old Goldwing, and I've seen old 1300/1500 GWs with over 140,000mi.

2005 still rocking it at 73k miles. Can't get anything I like better.

In Switzerland it has 126 hp. Maybe with more open exhaust it may have more. Above 4000 rpm it gets really sporty. And you can lean into the cornerblike a sportbike.

took a hard hit from a merc from the back and this bike took it well. the electric screen is epic just below eye level i get no wind noise or crank it down to stay cold the front pockets are great. only real negative being some do get very warm

Very special motorcycle. Fast, looks good, huge gas tank, 7.7 gallons. Love my 2003.

Rode mine up to 140mph on UK roads, managed to get the back wheel to slick. An awesome bit a machinery, although rode Blackbird faster I will go back to one of these.

My dad had a 2006 st1300. Psycho would wheelie that tank at 10oclock no problem. He put over 150,000 miles on it as a daily commuting bike for work. Unfortunately he passed away in 2019, now the bike is sitting in my garage. Needs some work.

Hey man, great video. I have a 2004 ST1300, Love the bike, mine must be geared different that the newer ones. Red line in first gear is 110KPH (almost 70MPH) and YES the front wheel comes of the road with ease. Freaked my friends out when they saw it for the first time. When the time comes I'll be buying a newer one. Cheers

Just saw this and had to pop in. I had an ST1100 for a couple years. Had a low speed slide into a muddy ditch. Had some minor cosmetic damage I could’ve fixed myself. After detailing it and riding it for a couple days it started running worse and worse till it died. My local Honda dealer wouldn’t work on it. They wanted to total it which the insurance company did. I miss that bike.

There are FJRs , Connies and R1200RTs but imho ST1300 are the kings. Had two of them, first was an '06, sold that one with 72k miles on it and sold it only to get one with abs, so I found an '09 with abs and so far this one has 65k miles on it. Yes, they are heavy, need 6th gear, bluh bluh bluh but I tell you, they are fun, very, very reliable, fast and awesome bikes. I came across couple of st1300 riders while back, one with 180k and other with 280k miles and they were going to Alaska from somewhere in the Midwest I think without any worries as far as high mileage. These bikes will run 90 mph all they long, great on curvy roads, great brakes, decent gas mileage (40-45mpg), not a drop of oil loss/burn between 5k miles oil changes. Some complain they are running hot, high speed wobble etc. I've been in 100 deg weather rides and never ever noticed any issues (besides being 100 deg outside of course) and I always wear all gear, had both bikes well past 100 mph and no wobble whatsoever ( both with tour packs on them). There are so many choices out there but for me and many others, ST1300 are it.

I owned an 03, lots of power but puts off a TON of heat. Also not great around town, too heavy. If you have a long commute on open roads, great choice. Suspension does have lots of adjustment for various weights.

The ST1300 was supposed to be an improvement over the popular ST1100. Honda was hoping the 1100 owners would buy the new 1300. The ST1100 was so popular owners did not jump on board.as expected. I own an ST1100 with 345000 miles on it, at 100 mph it feels like you are doing 70 mph.

Pan weave is very well documented. I have the 1100 and discovered the top box to be the culprit on my bike. Driving home after buying it 15 miles from home it was very difficult to control. I thought I bought a defective bike, so went online and found a suggestion to remove the top box. I thought it had to be much more than that but it wasn't. Cruised to Colorado and back shortly thereafter with no more weave action.

My friend just bought this bike. His first bike is a Kawasaki Vulcan 900 classic and he said he took this thing on the highway and did 120mph and it felt like he was going 70 on the other bike. He absolutely loves it and is gonna sell his Vulcan. He told me it cuts through the wind like a hot knife through butter

I found a cheapest ST selling for 7000usd (average used price in my country is around 1000 usd converted price). A 2003 with 121k mileage on it. ST is known for a bulletproof engine and I wonder if it can survive for another 80k before major engine top build. What maintenance on the engine should be done first before enjoying the full potential of the ST and should I be worry about the reported wobble? My highway speed with Yamaha Royal star is always above 160kmh and Im planning to do more with the ST. Fall in love with the looks of it and the police and firefighter here still using it and they still even use the cbx750.

I bought one, my third bike. I was only 140 pounds at the time. Riding it was never an issue. Picking it's 720 pounds up off the pavement was. Loved it when I had it. I will say it was kind of soulless though - kind of like driving a Honda Accord.

Some say the FI map from factory is abhorrent, and that the high speed death wobble is a real problem. I have heard of a lot of ST1100 owners who were sorry they switched to the ST1300 in the end. One I read, even sold the 1300 and went back to the 1100.

I had a 2001 VFR800. Very amazing sound with GPR exhaust, but uncomfortable as fuck. Sold that. Soon gonna buy an ST1300, has a V4 also but worlds different in terms of comfort. Can't wait!

Always i had sport bikes as Hayabusas, Gsxr, and always love to do wheelies e,t.c., but now in 50's i deside to buy St-1300 to be easy rider, i hope to not regret buying Paneuropean 1300.Will see!!!

I have the Triumph Trophy absolutely love it, sports tourers are the best bike for long distances at good speed and comfort. Honda should make this bike with the new gold wing flat 6 and give BMW a run for their money for the GT 1600. I see the ST everywhere when I am out on my bike, ridden by really sensible mature adults, I always pop over and say hello to those type of riders, this bike seems to have their own cult following, a great bike.

In Germany these things are extremely sought after. The cheeper ones have 100.000km and cost 4000€ upwards. Great bikes for fast Autobahn touring.

It’s direct competition was the BMW R 1150 at the time - I’ve owned both. The BMW is nice but my tall frame is better on the ST1300 - it only lacks cruise control but that’s easily fixed. 😎

Honda makes great bikes....period . I've had four VFR 800's . Bought them all used ( excellent shape ) and sold them for as much or just a couple of hundred under what I paid for them . Amazing machines...took one from Tulsa to Chicago another from Tulsa to Orlando FL. Not a hiccup , b*+ch or complaint . LOVE my vfr's.

I don't need no stink'n radio, I have my music piped right into my helmet speakers thanks to Bluetooth and Sena SMH-10. :-D The ST's from any generation are sweeeeeeet bikes.

2009 Paid $5500 with 5000 miles. Best bike EVER. It WILL pull the wheel at 1/2 throttle in 1st and goes to 70mph in 1st. 3.8 to 60.
