True, although a lot of churches put big signs out by the road that advertise VBS, so I figure they want neighborhood kids to come. I mean, if they already GO there, there's probably announcements or notes in the church bulletin, so they wouldn't need the big sign out by the road, right?

Lol I liked sending my kids to different ones around town simply because it got them involved in something for summer. Most asked for a set amount donation which was well worth it. (So you still basically paid). Also, our church is lacking in children so we haven't had one in years.

Rachel Stephens Right! We learned a lesson, did some crappy paper craft that was gonna be lost once we went home and had a couple cookies and juice. Now sometimes we’d go out in front of the church we had a grassy area and played Jesus Says.

I don't remember going outside as a participant, but I volunteered for service hours and one session was outside with a young priest in charge. We just played Duck Duck Goose. The priest got a grass stain on his white robe from playing. I feel like there should have been a lesson taught at one point. Maybe there was, and I just don't remember. Haha.

Same! We’re preparing for our VBS right now and we have a different theme every year. For example, this year it’s “Shipwrecked” and we’re building a hut, a boat, palm trees, the works! There’ll be different stations and a strict schedule for all the activities (the lesson, songs, games, stations) The kids always seem to enjoy it a lot and learn at the same time (there’ll even be tropical snacks lol)

Jeff Fuller - They actually do. I know ppl who ask me each summer and then schedule in each local church. That is 4-6 hours of free childcare all summer long. As a believer, I just pray that SOMEONE might be able to show Christ to the kids! This is a parody, and it's the negative notes that make it funny, but when I started getting those attitudes, I stopped helping in VBS. I mean, really...

Yep, same here. VBS is a free activity for many families. Churches don't charge anything and promise a fun time. It's a big appeal for families with tight budgets.

So what? That mean those kids get more of an opportunity to hear the gospel. I always learned waaaay more at VBS vs Sunday school and was always sad when it was over.

My sister keeps a list and cross-checks them with her twins' activities. After each VBS she friends a half-dozen moms she "truly connects " with - then unfriends them a few weeks later after she notices how they actually live. In addition, we have a lady at our church who works in the school district with at-risk kids. She picks them up to take to church whenever we have a potluck, VBS, or special event for jr. church. Some of the kid's mom's will come to get them and tell us how we are so nice to provide them some time away from the kids.

Africa Jones well maybe at your church this but it our church we be doing some serious arts and crafts. It helps to have are overseer that is a homeschool mom and extremely creative plus she used to be a teacher for the public school system.😁😁

Well the vbs curriculum publishers will sell expensive craft kids. And the Sunday school curriculum crafts were hilarious to me as an art teacher and my co teacher who was retired principal. We would simplify for safety of little fingers and Sunday's best clothes. Still great fun.

Brook Deann I was a volunteer last year for my vbs and was assigned crafts and, the thing about that was the sign in place was right next to it so , we would all take turns watching the kids or writing their names one stuff while the other one would go and steal food from the sign in place. As you can see we were great role models for the kids

As a VBS music leader for the last 11 years I can truly say I love encouraging kids to scream during VBS.

This summer in the church my grandparents use to go to I’m going to help with the kindergarten class.

We get to choose what we want to do. This year at our church we are just having games and a cookout for vbs. Next year I’m going to ask to work with kindergarten.
