Who am I?
Expert singing teacher, specialising in teaching children and young adults in singing and musical theatre. She has worked with the likes of The Saturdays for MTV, on shows such as Just the Two of Us for the BBC and many more. Throughout her years of teaching she has judged in many competitions, judging Lucy Spraggan, George Samson, amongst others who have gone onto succeed in the business.
I am the founder of Vocaltutor, (founded 2003) the UK’s largest vocal and singing tuition network and now The New Foundry Studios which opened in 2013.

What really impresses me about Mariah is that she's the most successful female vocalist in music history, is considered one of the best vocalists of all time all when battling the most feared and dangerous vocal illness (Nodules). Seriously nodules are no joke! and its a testament to her genius that she still delivers awesomely and writes all her songs! and figures out how to sing with nodules and aging and vocal deterioration. She really lives up to her title as Song Bird Supreme and a Legend:).....Not to mention she has the most octaves out of the trinity and writes the hardest songs......everrrr

Haven't these nodules been more of a blessing than a curse after all? I read that's it's thanks to them that she had that natural and effortless access to higher and whistle register as a child. Given that it's what made her mother decide she is cut out to be a singer and what actually made her special and unique, I don't understand why her fans always whine about her nodules and how they keep her back. If she had them removed, she wouldn't now have a career since a big part of her singing ability relies on them, period. Will she not be able to sing decently at all in some years? Probably yes, but that's the sacrifice for a huge and successful career that placed her name in the history of music and also granted her and her family 400 million dollars.

I think Celine wins in long mid notes. Mariah in whistle and belts. And Whitney in low and head voice. They’re really good knowing that they’ve got different styles and different mixes.

i agree, however, i think CD is highly underrated, her C6 shouldve won. I think CD is nicely in the middle between WH and MC. WH's headvoice is unavoidably the best. MC's is non-existent. And i like CD's headvoice too. I love CD's voice but not so much her music and she also has the best personality of all 3.

The belted note clips for Celine above D5 weren’t anywhere near her best. The chosen clips were ones where she just touched the notes. Yet she has numerous clips were she belts notes above D5 where she sustains, riffs, etc. Something tells me this was made by a Mariah fan, considering Mariahs clips were better quality and her better vocals. Whitney’s and Celine’s clips weren’t some of their best whereas mariahs clips were some of her best.

I think if you are going to judge singers, you must sit with an engineer to evaluate whether the audio is equal for all singers. These clips throw shade at Whitney and Celine.

Every female artist with a good tone is called a songbird. Mariah is supreme to all of them according to Guinness. Songbird SUPREME will forever be a more iconic title and universally accepted by neutral sources than The Voice given to Whitney by a random talk show host. I went to atleast 40 countries. @@butternutscotch I respect your opinion so much. I half agree though. I think Celine technique wise is just a little bit better than Mariah. She has more control, good range, runs on head voice are much clearer than Mariah. She also has a better tone and more power than Mariah. She's the full package, but while Whitney does lack the range of Mariah and Celine, she absolutely is the queen of head voice and runs. I think technique wise Whitney is superior to Mariah and Celine.

8:45 Growling is a typical vocal embellishment for vocalists with a background in gospel singing. If you listen to Yolanda Adams or Aretha Franklin's gospel album you'll notice that it's a typical feature that Whitney imported into mainstream music. This has nothing to do with her technique, it's a reference to her gospel heritage and its appreciation is totally subjective so I don't think you should take it into consideration to judge her technique.

Georgina mainly focuses on consistent pitch, healthy technique, and bright tone. Typical vocal coach. She really likes brightness. These three really set the standard for vocalist today.

Going up the difference between Whitney and the two others get so clear to me. I don't need to be a vocal coach to see that Whitney had the best voice of all. Her voice is the voice every singer aspires to have.

Singers aspire to have Whitney’s consistency and control…. Mariah is the one most of todays artist look up too because she has a HUGE range and can switch octaves so fast and smooth. They are all amazing and they’re wouldn’t be The holy trinity without all 3 of them… But Mariah in her prime was untouchable.

Okay, so I know you're the honest coach so believe me when I say I'm honest too. I absolutely no doubt knew (before I watched) that you would choose Mariah. The video you reviewed was obv made by a lamb. The quality of Celine and Whitney videos was awful. A very biased video. I would love for you to make a video selecting your own fave performances of these three and giving us your expert opinion. Lambs will thank you, but remember, they can't bite. I also happen to know for a fact that some parts of those Mariah performances used pre recorded vocals. Its strange you don't notice that. I've observed you tend to only notice pre records for artists who dance. Maybe its more noticeable that way but I assure you, Mariah lipped large sections

Turned Around thank you! I was getting so annoyed by watching this. These 3 ladies were/are powerhouses, which they made clear. However, this to me, was very much a preference to Mariah. Whitney and Céline can most definitely hold their own on any vocal battle.

You're right, and many of Mariah's clip here are lipped or dubbed performances, especially her concerts on sale, unplugged included, she goes back to the studio and fixes all the flat, waek and raspy notes mixing them with the original studio recordings or new studio recordings, so that people think it's live...

Whitney wins every round to me just out of personal preference. Some of the higher notes she can’t sustain like Mariah because their ranges are not built the same but middle chest voice, head voice, and mixed voice Whitney absolutely kills. Celine’s very good but no contender to the other two.

Ginette B she’s naturally a soprano and she lowers her larynx to reach the notes. She can support the upper 2nd octave/lower 3rd octave if she wanted too

On one of the clips you named Mariah the winner before Celine's clip even started. Also, it's not really fair to compare the notes when some of the clips are from poor quality videos. Some of Celine's clips were just her vocal warm ups.

Andrés E the druggie fan can’t accept the fact that Marian is way way better than Whitney in every aspect and this video proves it. Try harder flop fan. Whitney at her peak, was no match to Mariah, at her peak, whether in the studio or live. And people in the real world not delusional fans like you buy and listen to studio music not live. Mariah is the only one among these 3 that had a global number 1 live hit songs and sold millions of her live album because Mariah is the best live and in the studio. Come back when Whitney gets another hit song from her flop music discography.

Andrés E there are dubbed and undoubted vocals. Either way it’s still Mariah voice. Whitney at her peak couldn’t even sing her the climax of her songs live and relied on annoying unnecessary adlibs. Whitney could never sing the same way like the album version since she couldn’t hit the high notes live and had to chop up her songs with adlibs. Hahahahaha

The clips chosen were so obviously tipped in favor of Mariah . The clips used for Whitney were a joke . I have seen Mariah , Celine and Whitney in concert . Hands down Whitney was the best live performer ...incredible actually ... I have never seen a live performer as great as her ever . Frankly , Mariah and Celine were disappointing . Boring performers ... Mariah lip synced a lot of her performance . This is why I went to 12 Whitney concerts and only one concert for Mariah and Celine . Whitney never sang the same song the same ... she put her all into her performances - she was amazing ... and never disappointed . To me , she is the premier voice .

You got to go to 12 Whitney concerts!!!! That is AMAZING!!! I never got to see her live :( Breaks my heart! But I agree, Mariah lips WAY too much! I honestly think the fact that Whitney never lipped and always performed live had as much to do with her vocal decline as cigarettes and drugs(I think more so cigarettes). Whitney just SANG. It wasn't about technique at all with her, and that just may have been a good and bad thing. While I respect Mariah and believe she has one of the greatest voices of all time... She's definitely not the best. She has range but something always seemed phoned if with her and her struggle with stage presence always bothered me. Whitney was just natural and always could command a stage and crowd.

You seem to have problem with Whitney Houston , You almost dismissive when you comment on her voice technique and style where as with Celine and your obvious favorite Mariah your comments are more praise worthy rather than analyzing their voices and seeing who does it better pitch , technique , style , and passion. Their at least 7 points where gave to Mariah when it was surely CelineI or Whitney. You played to seconds of Whitney and Celine examples and Mariah clips went on and on; I do not feel you are being objective but preferential. If I were being preferential of the three as this was battle btwn who does it ; I would went Celine. However, Objective looking and listening to them Whitney is unmatched. Mariah is amazing great voice however Celine and Whitney as something about there sound and how they use their instrument that is so internal and just beautiful. Mariah training has given here amazing polished abilities with that natural gift and all those octives she can hit and Mariahs lower range beats Celine and Whitney but midrange vocals and belting je ne sais crois that both Whitney and Celine has is unparalleled. Mariah as great as she is and I love Mariah Carey I have every song she recorded her beautiful sounds does not from the soul like Celine and Whitney. It seems you judge the Whitey the person rather Whitney , The Voice; a Goddess unlike no other.

I don’t understand how she keeps choosing Mariah when literally Mariah has to keep taking breaths to sustain long notes, some were clearly lipped, and clearly she has a bias for Mariah And it’s easy to change the note key if you stop breath and go again why she said it is difficult is beyond me. And all the Whitney clips are cut short.

Whitney was known for the voice, and not only, she has a very unique voice, you always hear singers Mariah and Céline, but you will never hear a voice like Whitney!
