Well, death is number 2 because you don't necessarily have to make an ass out of yourself to do it; not mention that after you're done speaking, you still have to live. You have to go on with life among all the people who just heard you forget your own job title in front of them, while they were busy hoping you'd fuck up. Death? Meh, not so hard; and if it's a slow death, those same people will be trying to comfort you at your deathbed. I get why public speaking beats out death.
