I developed Horner's syndrome and serious unilateral headache in 2008. I was sent to hospital for diagnostic tests. The first hospital did a CT scan, but wasn't able to identify the cause of the problem. My doctor then sent me to another hospital with a neurology department. That was where I was told I had Horner's syndrome and told of the possible causes. I was then given an MRI scan and the cause identified as carotid dissection. The damage was not serious enough for surgery. I was found to have serious hypertension and spent several days in the hospital while they tried different combinations of blood pressure medication on me. At this is a fairly uncommon condition, the neurologist said that he saw about one case a year, I had medical students come to look at me. I mostly recovered, but my left eye does not respond to bright light and just closes. I also have double vision and am still on blood pressure medication.

Hi, Did you have lymph nodes enlarged in the neck? And was a brain MRI with which you're diagnosed? What did the doctor/s see? Thanks. 🌞
@peterjf7723
@peterjf7723 2 жыл бұрын
@@lillyrocks2011 No enlarged lymph nodes. It was a brain and upper chest MRI. The neurologist said that with the Horner's syndrome and other symptoms he knew which nerve fibres were being affected, but that particular nerve fibre went from the neck, down to the chest and back up to the head. The problem could have anywhere along the nerve fibre, which was why he needed the MRI to find the site. The MRI showed a bulge in the carotid artery in my neck. A carotid dissection. The nerves he was interested in run along side the carotid artery, so were being distorted, stretched by the bulge and this was the cause of my symptoms. I bulging artery was due to me having very high blood pressure. It was decided that the safest treatment would be to get my blood pressure down and let the damaged artery heal on its own. I then spend almost a week in hospital having different combinations of blood pressure medication tried to find which was best for me. The first was too strong and caused me to almost black out if I stood up too quickly.

We learned here in czech republic that Horner sy has 3 main symptoms: miosis, ptosis, enophtalmus. Anhidrosis might occur too but is not a main symptom

might ? actually its very important symptom cause it take its common to have Anhidrosis ( face , arm ) when there is a damage in the 1 Neuron area , and its possible to have Anhidrosis (face, arm ) if a damage accrue in the 2 Neuron area , and its also can be noticed (face) if the damage is at the 3 Neuron , so its all important information

So if you get pupil dilation with cocaine that means NE is present since it's an indirect agonist, but I thought the whole purpose was that sympathetic pathway is damaged, meaning no NE? Would a positive test for Horner's be pupil construction?
