Matt Smith AKA Daemon was the worst part besides the elder counsel IMO. When he goes to lop off a man's head it felt like he was reaching for a library book. He doesn't carry the demeanor of a psycho with emotionless brutality. He gave morbius villain vibes all over again. I normally agree with Chris Stickman's view to the core, but not on this one...

It’s such a shame this didn’t come before GoT.. they’re setting up the war with the night king so well.. if only the 8th season delivered - like having the final stand in Kings Landing after defeating Cersey (I think I spelt her name wrong, sorry!!) with Danny on the throne. That would’ve been so much more satisfying

At first I wasn't sure about Matt Smith which was odd cause I LOVED him in Doctor Who and always wanted to see him in more stuff. But something just kinda put me off him being cast in this show. HOWEVER the funeral scene just.....my god he NAILED it. I love nonverbal storytelling, because body language can say just as much as dialogue. And usually, that's where animation has a leg up on live action. But even live action has its moments of good nonverbal dialogue, and the acting from Matt Smith at that funeral scene showcases that. He clearly cares about his family, but due to reputation can't exactly show it.

I wad pretty excited for him honestly. He was perfect as Prince Phillip, and his version of the Doctor hid a dangerous and ruthless side underneath a friendly and adventurous demeanor. My only concern was whether or not he'd fit in with the other Targaryans, but his scenes with Viserys and Rhaenyra were among the best of the episode.

@@PainCausingSamurai I think that was exactly it. I think I was wondering if he would be the right fit actor for this kind of family if that makes sense. Even though like you say he would be perfect for this kind of brutish schemer given his experience as the Doctor. I think why I really love 11 over 10 is because of that ruthlessness. Matt Smith really grew on me as an actor. He's always had chops- I just didn't like looking at him. But his portrayal of Daemon is soooo sick. Right away, you love to hate him, with his smug look (something that Matt Smith was always good at). But his body language had improved since The Crown. Right away, you know he is up to mischief when he does his strut or is sitting on the Iron Throne. But then, he has a heart (funeral scene and being with his lady of the night.) It has me drawn and I wanna know kw what he does next.

Chris, long time viewer and am super supportive of what you do here. But your endorsement of your sponsor for this video didn't sit right with me. I think a majority of people on KZfaq are aware how predatory and scummy these games can be, especially since there are no age restrictions for accessing these. Zynga isn't a super well-regarded company to begin with. I hope you are able to select better sponsors going forward. Especially since the script they gave you, in my opinion, was cringey to listen to. Hope you have a great day and that post production is treating you well.

The Clone Wars also upsets the anti-prequel narrative as well. The fact you know how it ends gives its most dramatic moments that much more weight. The foreknowledge of Revenge of the Sith basically looks like a foreboding shadow over the entire series and all of its characters which lends a lot of subtextual tragedy to it. The series deliberately plays into what the audience already knows about what immediately follows itself to more deeply inform the motives and actions of the established characters and to make you question what will become of everyone and everything you didn't see before. It's more engaging as a series specifically because it knows its a prequel.

Idek now why people are acting like they know everything about HOTD, yeah the ending is in place, as obviously as it is, but the puzzle piece to complete the whole story is even shaky on the source material. It's a history book, there are LOADS of differing accounts. We don't know what exactly happened between these characters, and who they are, in that regard. We just know them in the eyes of historical accounts.

The Velaryons actually comment on it... that after a century of peace most of these knights don't even know what they're doing, so they don't know how to moderate their efforts and probably see these tourneys as an end all thing, worthy of risking their lives. They have nothing else left so they're overdoing it. If there were wars going on this wouldn't be happening, they would have mercy on one another because they would have better opportunities for glory. Honestly the writing is so far great... they're covering their bases, being very careful to maintain logic, which D&D completely dropped after season 4.

If anybody else knows another set of TV shows that have a main TV show that are followed by a prequel/sequel that are also equally as outstanding as the main TV show I would like to know so I can watch them What I mean by this is that both the main show (BB) as well as its prequel are absolutely masterpieces to almost every degree. I myself have not really seen that with other shows where the combination of a main show followed by a prequel or sequel together create an all around excellent and complete universe. Usually one is good and the other one is terrible I am not saying that other shows are not good or anything but I am saying as a whole (the combination of BB and BCS) there is no better TV universe from what I know myself

What I really like with the first episode is just the scale and tension. They have a higher budget now so they now showed the Red Keep with a complete 3D model and built set, the epicentre of the politics of Westeros is finally displayed in its whole glory, rather than scattered real-life locations in GOT. The camerawork and how they portray the political tension is also more captivating it pulls you into that intense atmosphere rather than in the GOT show it's just scenes after scenes. I like the direction so much like you I am quite pleasantly surprised.

I thought it would be a mistake to have a prequel set in Westeros and have it anywhere near the events of GoT. After having actually watched it, it was a very good episode. I was impressed. The writers seem talented. Since they're not adapting dialogue that's already been written hppefully this one won't go off the rails.

I hope that this series convinces you to give GOT a watch eventually. The thing I adored most about this episode was how reminiscent it was of early GOT in it's quality and atmosphere. GOT sadly doesn't have a great final season as I'm sure you've heard, the internet has made that undeniably clear, but the first 6 seasons are, on all accounts, truly phenomenal television! I definitely feel that if you enjoyed this episode you'll enjoy those early seasons of GOT very much! And lets hope that HOTD follows up with the amazing story it's pilot episode has promised us!

My very first thought was that the arena seemed to be designed to look like a vulva. Later my theory was basically confirmed as the similarities seemed intentional. When the hand commented that the day has turned ugly and the melee combatants started killing each other in the center where the birth canal would be, it lined up with the pregnancy complications at the same time. Given the queens comments earlier that the bedchamber is her battleground, the juxtaposition couldn't have an accident. So you heard it here first, it wasn't your imagination, the arena was in fact a vagina.

I thought this was wicked. I do think they should have started with Aegons conquest, and maybe done an anthology of each ruler per season. Dance of the dragons is obviously a wicked story, but it’ll be weird if after this show, it’s another prequel, then another, but we do have to see Aegons conquest in live action at some point. I need to see Harrenhal in it’s prime, then getting destroyed etc.
@cmillspa1
@cmillspa1 Жыл бұрын
My guess is budget issues. After GOT tanked, everyone lost interest. Aegon’s conquest would be very demanding from a budget standpoint and they probably didn’t want to throw down because there was no telling how many viewers would care enough to tune in. It’s a shame.

Viseryes never look down on Rhaenerya because she was a girl. The Targaryens are Vaylarian and they passed rights down to the eldest regardless of gender. However, the lords of Westeros only viewed males as heirs. That’s why Viseres didn’t care that Rhaynera was his heir, and after he re-married and has sons, he still has her as his heir. It’s his small council who plot to place his son on the throne over her, not the king.

No it really isn’t. A story based around building characters is not the same as a story based around pushing political agendas and forcing in diversity in a time period and scenery that made no sense to include them. Every episode all I expect to hear is how all men are bad and how they need women to guide and lead them. This wasn’t really the case in medieval times which is what this shows time period is trying to portray.
