Some REAL advice for you young guys that are headed to Fort Leonard Wood for basic in the near future. Assuming you found this video and you're reading some of the comments, in particular, mine .. I want you to listen to me carefully. 1 - there is very little to worry about in terms of an MP coming to arrest you, you getting thrown in the brig or court martialed or receiving a dishonorable discharge. that would never happen, so, RELAX. The Military starting at the top of the chain of command all the way down to the base and company commanders are not in the business of ruining young lives. That would never ever happen to you. The worst that happens if you decide to give up or fuck up doing something stupid is that the Military pulls you out of your company and starts your exit from the military. No, you will not be given a dishonorable discharge. You will be given a general discharge and sent home, end of story. Can you get back into the military after this? No. You're done. During a war, maybe but lets pray to god that doesn't happen. I wanted to clear this up right away because a lot of you young guys are going to go in and you're going to take and carry in a good amount of fear, fear of the unknown. DON'T. If you fuck up a salute or speak out of turn, you're just going to get yelled at and maybe dropped for some push-ups. Or, whatever they are doing these days for punishment. The point being is not taking this fear with you to basic. This is going to help you immensely. Being mentally prepared ahead of time allows you to fortify your mental stance now. Stay ahead of the curve, not behind. Remember this. Going to bed early on the weekend sucks, but you will get over that by the 3rd week or so. Also, it's not too long before you start getting some privileges, or whatever it is they are doing these days, I don't know. I would approach basic they way I did and that's to just have fun and make the most of your time there. Also, don't ever allow yourself to be the last guy, I don't care how fucking hard you think the task at hand is, don't ever be last. It doesn't take much to stand out and in a good way. I laughed at some of the cadences, I thought they were great and yeah, I got yelled at a few times but I also got pulled aside and indirectly told that my spirit and enthusiasm was admired and I was rewarded in ways other guys weren't. There is a fair amount of competition when I was in basic and if you came in 1st or 2nd, there might be the occasional reward. One being allowed to go and buy a soda from the pop machine and relax for 5 or 10 mins while everyone else busted their asses doing whatever was planned next. But that's not the real reward, the real reward comes from inside in the form of pride and accomplishment. So work hard at whatever it is you're doing. For those of you that do not have basic for weeks or a month or two from now, use this time now to increase your physically endurance / stamina. I swear to god this will help you TREMENDOUSLY. Order you a cheap door jam lift bar off Amazon and start doing pull ups now. You can always bend your knees if you need clearance. Start doing push ups now and don't half ass it. It's not hard at all to do 10 - 15 push ups 4 or 5 times a day. Challenge yourself and give yourself the gift of self-discipline. Start drinking more water than you typically do and stop the soda pop and sugars or heavy foods that tire you and slow you down. I can't remember exactly how much time I had before my basic started but it was at least a good 5 - 6 weeks. When I went to recruiters office and signed up, he had me do 12 or 13 push ups right away. He said there was a requirement of at least so many push ups I had to do. I passed but just barely. I think I might have squeezed out 16 or so but he didn't count the last 2. I don't know if they have this requirement 30+ years later. At any rate, I used my time before basic to do push ups everyday and to jog with my GF at the our HS track a few times a week. I also did a lot of swimming. The last 3 or so weeks before basic I accidentally ran into some dumbbells at a garage sale and bought and started using those. I also cut down on drinking soda's and this was very hard to do from what I remember. From that 1st day at the recruitment office, at the age of 19, I was 6-2 and 190 and could barely do 12 or 13 push ups correctly. Days before my basic training started, I was 180 and could do 75 - 85 push ups non stop mostly correctly. If you, whoever you are are reading this right now, I have a question for you, are you a 1st place type individual or last place individual? Lot of guys I was in basic with seriously struggled and we had a few who just dropped out. Just random guys who suddenly vanished. No good byes. They moved them out of the company over night and they were gone, never to be seen or heard from again. In fact, all of us forgot about those guys within hours if not by the next day. Don't be that guy. I know most of you reading this won't even make to this point in my reply to this videos thread ... but, if your still reading, I've given you some really good advice that will absolutely help you and put you ahead of everyone else. If you take my advice, and or the advice of the people in your lives that love you, your Dad, maybe an Uncle that had Military experience or a friend or maybe you're inspired from an external source like a movie or whatever the case may be, if you take this advice now and you get to basic and you find yourself EXCELLING .. and you will ... you could very possibly go on to be a leader or even possibly recommended for OCS: Army Officer Candidate School. The advice I'm giving you is from my own personal experience. Every bit of it I did and it put me out in front. And for those of you that are curious of what I meant by getting benefits others didn't, a few cool things happened. One, the company SGT pulled me into his small office in the barracks and said, "I bet you would like to do something special for your Girlfriend back home wouldn't you?" ... I was puzzled but said, "of course." ... his reply, "give me $25 and I'll send your GF flowers for you." The next chance I got to use the phone, I called her and she had gotten them just like he said he would do. I am pretty damn sure this is a rarity in basic training. I also never had to do Fire Watch. I also got to go to the PX week 3 before anyone else. There was also a few times I was told to go grab a soda and take 10 but always declined as I thought it was a test. A few times on a Friday or Saturday night they would order 1 large pizza and allow some of the top performing guys in the company to come into the that little barrack office that had the bedroom in the back, to come in and have a slice of pizza. They made us eat it inside the office away from the other guys. Remember, little perks like this are nice but the real rewards will come from pride and accomplishment. When you run one of those long 5 mile company jogs, don't do it for a god damn soda pop, do it because you want to be number one. Sprint for 1st place at the end. Trust me, they are watching you. Also, SPOILER ALERT. When you complete basic ... you are going to have a HIGH unlike any high you've ever experienced in your life ... you will feel INVINCIBLE and UNBEATABLE and your self confidence will be higher than Mount Everest .. trust me on this guys. It feels fucking amazing. The confidence you gain thru hard work, personal sacrifice, pushing your body, your lungs the max, always sprinting for first place at basic and in life will absolutely protect and serve you in unimaginable ways the remainder of your life. Even saving your life or the lives of others one day. Who am I? Class of 88' FLW, 1st Gulf War. Good luck guys.

@@Still_Tempting Correct, things have changed no doubt but what hasn't changed is the uncertainty and anxiety, fear that young guys take to boot camp with them of the unknown and or rumors they have heard. The human condition doesn't change. That's what I'm mostly speaking to. Boot camp is fun, there is nothing to fear, nothing is going to happen to you, even if you decide you want to quit, you can without anything happening to you other than, you've failed yourself and it might effect you for a long time to come. It's an easy challenge and once you graduate from boot camp, if will truly make you feel not only incredible but invincible.

Bro, I graduated last August from FLW, and we did the Hammer for 3 days and the last day there was storming, raining and we crawled our asses at least 150 meters throughout the forest to catch the Red Flag, it was so epic and dramatic, when the whole platoon was able to reach the Flag, the senior Platoon Sargeant, took off the red flag, for the White Flag and said:"1st Platoon, on your feet, you are now in White Phase!"...

Ctom2121@gmail.com I can tell you this so far... His recruiter said he would have his phone at reception... That's a negative, Sarge. He left MEPS in Tampa Tuesday afternoon with a group of like 15 others also going to Fort Leonard Wood. They landed that night and (I'm assuming) took a bus to Fort LW. At 2:45am that night, they had him call me from his cell and say "I have arrived at Fort Leonard Wood. I am safe. I will call you when I can. Good bye." and hung up. He sounded pissed and tired. Acft is really passable, but yeah I believe it won’t count until next year. They would let you know there. But you only need to pass one really. So your first one will just to see where you are at. I leave on the 10th please reply if you can
@privateruski70182 жыл бұрын
You just need to bring your phone, charger, and like some cash if you want to eat at the airport and stuff but I just kept it for ait to buy stuff. I personal running shoes if you want DS might let you wear them and if not could always get a profile for it. Some people brought boxers to wear for ait. I brought pre addresses envelopes with stamps already for basic. That’s about it, don’t need anything else cuz you can’t basically use anything you bring. Besides for ait which you could always get shipped to you. And no you don’t need to run 2 miles. They usually do a acft just to see where you at. Then over time they train you and you should be fit better for it. Wildlife not really besides ticks but that’s during the summer time. You can wear a gator depending on your company really depends on them

@privateruski70182 жыл бұрын
3 times a week should be the minimum. Really depends on what y’all doing that day. I mean it isn’t required to pass until October this year or next year. It’s 21 minute 2mile I believe to pass. They’ll make you so 60s 120s. If you really try on those you can build up the cardio. Not like 100% effort but like 80-90%% so you can last for multiple goes

We only had 4-5 phones called some 15 min some 30 longest one was our last one in blue phase and it was 45 min. They say no social media and stuff but not like they go around checking. @@mommiechelle no they are legally required to feed you 15 minutes 3 times a day. Dinner depends on how many companies eat at one defac and whether or not you are going to the defac or eating mres or field chow. So could be anywhere from 5pm to 7pm for dinner. And the day is over once you go to dinner. After that it’s hygiene time and personal time

Nah man basic and reception and ait is not the real army. It’s a small part in your life. I look back and it flew by and sometimes doesn’t feel like it happened. If you’re doing guard. It’s especially not scary. Come back to living a normal life. But on a weekend one a month and 2 weeks out of the summer you’re doing training which is practically doing nothing. The active life ain’t anything like it too my brother is active and it’s no where near like basic or ait. More chill and freedoms. Plus you get good benefits from both sides. And you can always do the shortest contract and not reenlist if you don’t like it. Only a small portion of life

I heard there was this victory tower that you have to climb up and grapple down, How do you deal with the fear of heights
@privateruski70182 жыл бұрын
yeah it was called warrior tower for us, climbing up is easy, you don't look down, just keep looking where you need to go. There was plenty of people who were scared to down it. If you're scared of heights they'll send you first. You just have to trust your battle buddies and drill sargents. When repelling down there's a person holding your rope so if you let go they would hold you in place and you wont fall.
