My name is David and with my dog Lefty we travel the country in our ambulance conversion RV. I made this change to my life and you can too! Like, subscribe and comment! Lefty would appreciate it - he wants the adventures to keep coming!
The Campulance is a 2002 Ford E450 Marque Commando 164 Class III ambulance powered by the Ford 7.3l Powerstroke turbo diesel engine and a 4 speed 4R100 transmission. Lefty is a 68lb American Staffordshire Terrier (best I can tell) that came from the Verona Street Animal Shelter (www.vsas.org/) in March 2014 at the age of 9 months. We have been living full time in the campulance since July 2019. #ambulancelife #vanlife #staffordshireterrier

You and Lefty moaning back and forth was hilarious. Thanks for that laugh! Those bugs are so common in the West. We always called them stink bugs because that's what they emit as a defense. It's pretty bad. Order the heater. You KNOW if you don't the current one will die and you will freeze. Have you tried a sweater/coat for Lefty? Some dogs love them and some won't tolerate them. Seems like all dogs love blankets!

The fans in the cheap ones have cheap plastic bearings which don't like it when it's cold. Once heated up the plastic bearings go back to doing their job. But you need the fan to turn to heat the place up and these plastic bearings can actually freeze up causing the heater to fail altogether. Invest in the expensive one and get it over with. The truck drivers use the expensive one and they don't have problems.

I now have a small repair box that lives next to my heater with spare glow plugs, control computer, fuel line, fuel pump, a cheat sheet chart for adjusting for altitude, and a trouble shooting sheet for error codes. I see adding Japanese barring, from a reader above would be a good add.

You and Lefty can survive a couple of days if the heater dies. I agree with not keeping a spare one on hand, when you're in a spot where if it fails, you'll be fine anyway. Worst case, you can run the vehicle heater for 15 minutes a few times per day while awaiting an Amazon delivery. Dogs have fur for a reason.

Great video David. My first year out there I brought my air conditioner. Never used it. Last year I was in Tucson for a bit and it snowed on me. Being from NY you will understand this the snow was snowball making snow. The spots that didn't get sun the snow was still there the next day. Nice to have that spare heater so if something happens just a quick swap out. I have had great luck with those heaters knock on wood.

Hi David, Often the Chinese diesel heaters have inferior ball bearings, but they can be fairly easily replaced with sky or similar quality bearings. I am almost 100% sure this is the reason they get noisy. They turn a lot of rpm. There are some channels here which show how to change them, I am sure you can do it yourself. Perhaps and what I will do for myself is buying a Chinese version, immediately replace the bearings with SKF or an American Brand you know, I also buy the eberspacher exhaust and muffler which are far better than the knock offs. That way you probably last a lot longer with the heater. At heart I believe mispronounced adventures here on KZfaq has an episode where he overhauls a diesel heater including changing the bearings. Anyways Google luck!! 🍀

Hi David and Lefty. I've always lived by the motto you get what you pay for. Buy cheap #$&? You will have to replace it. Add those costs together and you've spent over time what you should have spent the first time. Only if you'd have spent it the first time you wouldn't have had to deal with the frustrations in between. I live my life only buying quality products simply because I'm cheap. It saves me money in the long run. I hope you get a good heater. It may indeed be more expensive but it will last longer. Look at the ones used in big trucks. I never had a problem with the ones I had in my big trucks. Good luck. Be safe and stay well.

I have that exact same controller, with a 2K (Orange with fake carbon fiber top $140 on eBay) and you are supposed to take them apart every year and clean out and inspect everything. There are several videos on here that explain how. They are super easy to disassemble, as they are not complicated machines at all. All I did with mine this year was blow it out with compressed air. When I first got mine, the bearings were noisy, and apparently it is very common with the 2k's.I got some Japanese bearings, and put them in and it is super quiet now.

I had the screaming diesel heater problem too. it was the bearings and David McCluckie has a repair video. I bought a new diesel heater and installed it cause it was cold but disassembled the old one, ordered new bearings from Japan (not China) and using his video changed the bearings. I now have a spare heater waiting to change out the new one if or when it does the same. I carry spare pump glo plug. With out the video I would not have attempted but McCluckie answered all the right questions. And gave a link to the japan bearings. BTW I bought a spare set of bearings for the other heater and new gaskets because they arre brittle and can break when you open the case. Look him up and fix your old units for a spare if you dare...Cheers! Ill be out near Quartzite in mid Jan if your still around Id like to say hello

I'd say heat is rather vital, and having a spare on-hand for a swap isn't the worst idea. You can then fix what's broken in the one that's down and have it as a spare. I went $$ crazy and ordered an ecoflow wave heat pump myself to go with my Delta Pro and that's been working rather well, but I have a diesel heater as my backup, and if all else fails I have a buddy heater.

If there is one thing I hear people have trouble with it’s ALWAYS those diesel heaters. I don’t know the first thing about them, but, I’d say get the best one you can. They break a lot. You could always get one of those 12 volt car blankets for Lefty’s bed if you’re in a pinch. They are cheap and go off automatically 🤷🏼‍♀️ Glad to see doing laundry is convenient. 🐶💕 Lefty needs his blankets 😂

It's getting cold this weekend bro. I have a tarantula and had to get her a heating pad and she lives in a cage in a drawer so she is safe , they prefer being alone and safe. ❤

Pick up a flower pot and bottom saucer and a bag of tealight candles(10 to 12 hours) look up videos on this. For $5 to $10 bucks they are a great backup in an emergency.

Hi guys, my wife and I live full time in our 33 foot class A and we have been using chinese diesel heaters for the last 5 years. After our third heaters fan bearings failed I took the fan motor apart and installed good quality high temp bearings, since then I have had no failures, these heaters use size 625zz bearings in the fan motors.

install a wood burner heater, cheaper than fuel oil heaters. all you need is dead wood. save a lot of money in the long run.

I would definitely go ahead and order the new heater. And hang on to it for a backup in case other one quits. That way you won't have to go without heat. That's what I would do.
