There are 14 different serotonin receptor subtypes, each with a fairly unique intracellular signaling mechanism and distinct psychological effects. This is a preview of a full-length video that goes into much more detail on all the points I mentioned in this short version.
This is a preview for a full-length video that was released yesterday: • Serotonin Receptors | ...
Serotonin (also known as 5-hydroxytryptamine or 5-HT) is a neurotransmitter molecule used in a huge variety of neurobiological processes. This video is part of a miniseries on the neurobiology of the serotonin system. Link to the rest of the serotonin videos: • Serotonin Miniseries

Who are you and why should I listen to you?........I mean this respectfully........I've been trying to work out my brain my entire life like an obsession.........So who are you. I'm a self medicating bipolar person with alcohol trying to work out the GABA receptor........Cause alcohol works for bipolar. I'm not a drunk.......You'll never see me drunk but I hardcore self medicate cause it works. I'm trying to find a healthier way that isn't poisonous. I've been down so many rabbit holes it's unbelievable........hence why I started this comment with what I did.

@@jamaloy I appreciate the question. I would say that I’m here to simply give people an accurate and clear picture of how the brain works at various levels of analysis. I do that by carefully reading and reporting the science as I understand it. I have a degree in cellular and molecular biology and I worked for a few years in a neurobiology lab before starting this channel, so I have developed a set of skills that help me to communicate neuroscience to other people. I’m not trying to sell you anything, nor tell you how to live your life. My goal is to give you the facts so that you can make more informed decisions, but more importantly, so that you can share in the wonder and awe that I experience when I learn something new and profound about the brain or mind. Let me know if that does or does not answer your questions. And thank you for reaching out.
