👇HOW CAN I HELP YOU?
✅ Discover what to eat to lower blood sugar, lose weight, and get your best A1c ever
www.masteringdiabetes.org/mas...
Metformin was originally extracted from French lilacs and has been used as a medication to lower blood glucose for almost 60 years. Over time, metformin has been successfully synthesized in a laboratory and is now commonly used to lower blood glucose for people living with type 2 diabetes.
Favored for its lack of hypoglycemic side effects, metformin is widely recommended as a safe, cost-effective first-line treatment for many conditions, including prediabetes, type 2 diabetes, polycystic ovarian syndrome (PCOS), and gestational diabetes. - Cyrus Khambatta, PhD
But here's the catch. How well do doctors understand the side effects and consequences of these side effects? Not much.
For more about the dark side of metformin, why doctors keep prescribing them, and what really works to REVERSE diabetes - Here's Cyrus.

I have been off of metformin for 5months now and my a1c is at 6.3. I do intermittent fasting, cut out sugar and refined carbs. Doing plant based whole foods. Doing strength training 5times a week and walking for 30mins almost every day. You *can reverse diabetes*. Keep the faith. Your body is designed for health. Give it the right inputs❤❤❤

@@Fomites - The medical community pushes these drugs on us. My doctors and their staff was literally telling me that if I didn't take metformin, that the likelihood of achieving my blood sugar goals would likely not be met. Thank God I took classes in Microbiology and I knew exactly what caused the production of blood sugar. Fasted for 3 days drinking only water. When I broke my fast I only ate meat and whole green veggies. My blood sugar went from over 300 to just under 100 within 1 week. No metformin. Yes, it's not easy, but it's not overly hard either.

I was 495lbs, I ate what my doctor told me, did as much physical exercise as I could with my bad back and continued to gain weight until I got to that point. I was type-2 diabetic, had high cholesterol, high blood pressure and was a walking heart-attack. I signed up for gastric-bypass surgery thinking I had no other choice, but because I was so high risk I needed to lose 80lbs before the surgery could be done. Imagine, being that obese, trying so hard to lose weight, starving myself, on a ton of medication and not able to have a surgery I needed to help me. That is when I started doing research on my own... There had to be a way. Then I tried an ultra low carb diet. I didn't count calories, I ate until I was full and I only ate when I felt hungry. The pounds fell off without trying. After a year I was off all my medications because I didn't need any of them any longer and I had lost 200lbs. Fast forward 7 years later. I'm still off all my medications, I'm not Type-2 diabetic and I feel amazing. I came to learn that for people that have become Type-2 diabetics that carbs are the enemy. Eating carbs triggers a lot of insulin which is the fat storage hormone and also causes insulin resistance and this gets you stuck in a cycle that you can't get out of. Medications and insulin help but actually make the problem worse as times goes on. What you need to do is reverse what made you sick in the first place. Eating too many carbs, spiking insulin levels over the years and creating more and more insulin resistance making you metabolically unhealthy which leads to weight gain and insulin resistance and ultimately diabetes. What traditional medicine considers low carb is far too high. 20-50g of total carbs per day is what the range should be to reverse Type-2 Diabetes and encourage weight loss without medications.

Congratulations, and you are absolutely right. I did the same thing, lost 106 lbs same way as you. However, I can now eat a decent amount of carbs, because I exercise and walk a lot. but I try to keep it to less than 100 g carbs per day total. I tested and tested with my meter, and the worst food for me is bread. it spikes my sugar bad. but I can eat potatoes, rice, and a small amount of al dente high fiber pasta.

@@loneranger7573 And congratulations to you too. Let me preface my comment by saying I'm not trying to change your mind, but I'm of the opinion that if Carbs put me in that position in the first place then why would I want to go back to them and risk building insulin resistance over time? I've been 20g or less of carbs a day (and usually from vegetables and limited fruit) for 7 years and my A1C is 4.9 mmol/L (88mg/DL) and I remain medication free.

Before getting Metformin for Diabetes, I was on 7 other medications for congestive heart failure and attrial flutter (one to slow the heart down, one for rhythm, duretics and one to thin blood), high blood pressure and high cholesterol. Some could have been avoided if I had sought earlier metformin? Surgery (Cardio Abalation) fixed the heart rhythm and walking reversed the congestive heart failure. I reduced my egg and sausage consumption to get off cholesterol medication. Both which also reduced my metformin needs. By the time I read Mastering Diabetes I was down to 3 medications and giving up meat, fish and eggs got me off the rest. Unfortunately by then my kidneys were worse and no warning of high bean consumption or fruit juice being hard on kidneys and certain high oxalate veggies (purines, uric acid and oxalates). I had given up soft drinks in 2011 and fried foods in 2015 before the heart heart problems in 2017. Had I had been told to see a dietician maybe the process would have been faster (dietician at a gym hard gotten me off soft drinks previously). The high meat diet I was using to control my blood sugar and switch to less cooked hamburger by the fast food industry around 2005 moved me from hyperinsulimia to undiagnosed diabetic. The Coke-A-Cola consumption made it harder to learn during college classes taken during the 2009-2011 recession. Warnings from my brother about high fructose corn syrup in soft drinks messing with ghrelin and leptin had gotten me to quite in 2011. Going Whole Food Plant Based no sugar salt or oil diet (WFPB-SOS) November 2020 and intermittent fasting got me off the high blood pressure and metformin and lost 50 pounds in 10 months. I gain some weight back last year on bread, dates, plus courtesy of my moms retirement home instant mashed potatoes and sweet potatoes with sugar and marshmallows during Thanksgiving and Christmas - New Years weeks. I have since lost the holiday weight and plan on losing another 50 pounds. Now I will be tweaking my diet to make it easier on my kidneys. While I reduced my A1C from 7.5 to 5.7 it seems I get quite the insulin spike if I eat too much fruit or bread. Bread was a once a month splurge and it was the dense German style whole ryeberries style pumpernickel or read Sourdough (no added yeast or dough conditioners). Thanks for your work Cyrus Khambatta and Robbie Barbaro plus books by Dr Dean Ornish, Dr Neal Barnard, Dr John A. McDougall, T. Colin Campbell PhD etc. read previously. Mastering Diabetes recommended by a high school classmate was the final straw that got me on the right path.

@@Mr-hn2bp fat does not use insulin as a metabolic pathway - carbs & proteins do
@Mr-hn2bp
@Mr-hn2bp 7 ай бұрын
@@abhijitbaner It depends on how your define metabolism, which includes anabolism(building) and catabolism (breaking down). Fat globules physically interferes migration of cytosol glucose transporter 4 and thus affects insulin action and glucose transport. Their are other mechanisms fats decrease insulin sensitivity. Fat is the storage form of energy. Insulin is an energy storage hormone which facilitates transport of glucose and fatty acid into fat cells for storage as triglycerides and blocks the mobilization of triglycerides. Thus, insulin is tightly involved in fat metabolism. Accumulation of fats in pancreatic beta cells negatively impact insulin secretion, in liver cause fatty liver and insulin sensitivity, in blood vessel walls atherosclerosis and hypertension, etc.

does the diet help to reduce the insulin from liver?
@norwegianzound

Insulin is not from the liver. It's produced in the pancreas. The liver works independent to the insulin. It converts glycogen to glucose, which insulin then converts to fat (hence weight gain).

It contains metformin hydrochloride as the active ingredient. The maximum daily dose is 2.5gm. You don't have to take it as the efficacy is very low. There are other side effects too. It has no benefit if you are not consuming much more proteins than you need.

Thank you. My doctor has zero faith that I can make the changes that will lower my insulin resistance. I don't want to take metformin and she raised a stink over me saying I was going to a 95% plant based diet. Now I will have only two months of regular exercise and plants, herbs. I am learning a lot and don't want to get pushed to take anything except vitamin D3 and maybe thiamine. How can I insist she give me 6 months before shoving me into pills I don't want to take? I need to lose 35lbs.

Just know that vegetarian proteins often contain a high level of carbs (lentil, brown rice, beans, etc.). Maybe have lots of veggies but I don't see how meat/ eggs or greek yogurt could hurt. Also, your doctor really sucks. Remember that you don't have to do anything you don't want to. She actually can't force you to take medicine. I have had a lot of luck with keto , walking after meals and intermittent fasting.

This video is true. I had to change my lifestyle. No carbs, good food, green veg and meat is my main diet. Lost 20kg in weight. Waiste size drop. I am still on meds but after having type 2 diabetes for over 20 years and poor medical advice i have lost all faith in Drs. When i was diagnosed as type 2 I was told eat carbs. The worst advice. AC1 was 46 gone up to 52 but it will come down again. I have fairly steady blood sugars now running between 6 and 7. No spike above 10 and average spike is to 8.

So the real message is, when it comes to the two of the leading health issues in the US (cardiovascular disease, metabolic syndrome), don't trust your doctor's advice. I would disagree with the statement at 21:44 "lifestyle change is easy..." Actually no, no it's not. That is such an ignorant thing coming from a channel that is science-based. Especially around something where the whole society is actively working against those choices. The culprit is the Standard American Diet and the volume of marketing around that, and the deep social expectations in support of that, which is absolutely mind numbing. It'd be like an alcoholic who quits drinking, but has to go to bars and clubs every night with people saying "just have one little drink..." Lifestyle change is straightforward which is vastly different than easy. How is Elon Musk going to get people on Mars? The solution is straightforward. Send them in a rocket, etc. But you ain't getting it tomorrow. It's the implementation that's the issue, maybe impossible to do. Lifestyle choices are just as difficult to implement. That's the allure of metformin or a statin. It's the easy button. An easy button with hidden costs though. And the first hurdle on your lifestyle change? Telling your doctor no, that you're going to implement a lifestyle change first. The doctor will persist because how many people have said that, but never follow through? Or they might tell you, take the metformin just until those lifestyle changes kick in. We are socially conditioned to listen to our doctors and follow their advice. So good luck getting out of the starting gate.
