As someone with back issues and hyper mobility I totally understand the pain when something is kinda shifted and not right ( like my posture when walking) except I have the ability to easily adjust no issues. I think it’s so cool that you share things like this. I bet not only do other amputees feel more heard or more supported on these kinds of things and more people are learning of the struggles of what it’s like to have a missing limb.

I feel the pain. I broke my foot so I was in a cast for 6 weeks, then 11 months later I sprained my ankle on the same side as I broke my foot and last year I had flat foot on my right side bad and a little bit on my left side. The left side is the one where I sprained and broke my foot/ankle. If you need advice or somone to talk to I can help a gal out. I feel like I have quite a bit of experience in that situation

@@Grape08 I wrote that country song! I fell down the stairs when I was 23 and sprained my left ankle. It was verified by xray to be a sprain, but I am such a clutz I fell off my crutches 2 days later and broke it. And in the 20+ years since then. I have sprained that same ankle 4 more times, all doing just basic things like walking. The last time, I turned it on the edge of the driveway (there was a hidden dip there) and tried to catch myself and broke my right wrist, rupturing the tendons in my thumb which required surgery to replace them with one from my index finger, 12 weeks in a cast, 16 weeks of physical therapy all so I could do this again: 👍😆

Lots of people are inadvertently using a body part in a way that has long term negative consequences for their health and mobility simply because nothing and no one have called this to their attention. So if you'd like to, you could view having a prosthetic ankle as a wakeup call that people without prosthetic limbs don't get. I tend towards a 'glass half full' view of life (because otherwise it's easy to start seeing the glass as just getting emptier and emptier, lol), but whatever works for you. Keep posting, you're definitely helping me and MY attitude!

It's great that your prosthetist trusts you to change it yourself, but I wouldn't recommend it for people to do it on their own. If they need alignment adjustments they should see their prosthetist. If you adjust it incorrectly it could lead to safety issues or long term knee problems ie. Hyperextension, ligament laxity, OA. That's why prosthetists don't usually allow patients to change it themselves. Also it should be properly torqued after adjusting.

Obviously it's not the same, but I have hypermobile Ehlers-Danlos Syndrome, a connective tissue disorder that makes my tendons and ligaments really weak. Because of that, my feet and ankles pronate. Because my feet aren't at the right angle when I'm standing and walking around, I get a lot of the same problems you mentioned with knees, hips, lower back, etc. constantly in pain. While I know that getting to this point was so much more pain than I have ever experienced, I'm so glad it's now at the point that you can fix it with a screwdriver! I'm saving up to see an orthotist for my particular misalignment. Bodies are weird.

@shiKrazyee2 жыл бұрын
Most clinics don't recommend people to have their own wrenches to adjust their prosthesis. A small adjustment even a 1/4 turn could impact safety or long term injuries (back problems, oa). Prosthetists are trained in analyzing gait, so they're not guessing on which scew to turn. Also the set screws need to be torqued past hand tight as well...

I have a suggestion that might help with the phantom itching. Now I literally just thought of this yesterday, but when you made the video about dropping a weight on ur prosthetic foot, and then later made a video saying you could like halfway feel it hit even tho it’s not there, well what if, when you have phantom itching, you could use that same logic and instead of scratching the stubby part, what if you scratched the prosthetic leg while it’s still on, and then the brain would be tricked into thinking that you are scratching the itchy part, and the itch would go away
