Another great video showing artisans at work. I love Nicks Boots - overbuilt with purpose. I’ve been itching for a pair of the Urban Drifters - too bad you need to wait 6 months or more to get a pair….that rules me out. Unacceptable lead time to me, but hey…I’d rather Nicks stay true to their purpose and maintain quality all around…even if I never own another pair.

They don't do steel shanks. They do a leather shank in all their boots. Watch at the 9 min. and 15 seconds mark.

Hello and great work, thank you for the videos. I watch a lot of boot building and repair videos. I find them very interesting. I have yet to see where exactly the nails are being nailed into. Are they nailing them in to the last, (the foot mold) I think that’s what it called. The other thing, those look like long nails, how come they never push through and stab you in the foot? Thank you

They hit the metal plate on the last and turn around creating a hook. So even if after long time of use a nail was to touch your foot, it would be rounded, not pointy.

won't stitching directly on top of the tread mean the stitches will break/fray as soon as you wear them? why not cut a channel?

I didn’t know either so I did some digging. The secret is lock stitching and a specialized type of thread that essentially glues itself to the shaft created through the rubber and leather when the needle penetrates. The contents of the thread apparently use to be a highly kept secret before modern times.

Yes it will, but lockstitching paired with the thick rubber sole means the threads do not come loose.

I like the boots but the welt stitching been on the surface of the sole let's it down for me why can't they use the commando sole to protect the stitching

Those stitches are made to wear away and have no impact on the durability or integrity of the boots!

I’m considering buying some of these boots, but when I see stitching exposed on the sole like that, which will surely become broken after wearing them outside on the pavement, I doubt these people know what they are doing. That can’t be good to stitch through the sole in a way that the stitches will contact the ground. Am I wrong? Someone please explain why it is ok for thread to contact the ground.

We never use cork filler, instead we have a full leather midsole which leads to a better break-in process and a more comfortable boot!

There is a metal plate in the shoe last the nail will curve over when it hit the metal plate, so no sharp point inside the soles.

Yep, when Grant says " 3 hours hands on to make the boots" plus soaking/drying time. 3 days tops... I'm over 31 weeks and still waiting. Promised a 10% refund and still haven't received the boots or the refund. Something needs to change.

No special leather. The thing that really bugged me was getting the starting production email and then almost 4 weeks after getting a material delay email. So I changed from 64 to max support just to wait over another 3 weeks to receive boots.

Красивая обувь, но не практичная... Прошитая подошва не будет держать влагу, а это демисезонные ботинки. И мне кажется, что это не кожа, судя по выкройке лист материала был очень большой. Лист натуральной кожи таким большим быть не может. Хотя, я может ошибаюсь. А внешне ботинки выглядят супер.

You are very wrong. That is 100% leather and not just any leather. Some of the thickest leather on the market at 8oz (3.5mm). Also the majority of the sole holding is done by the glue. The stitches are a redundancy and them wearing out doesn't matter.
