New to the channel but been around shooting for a while and seen many licensing regimes come and go as well as lived in a few different counties. Make sure to let all your listeners know, Police & Crime Commissioner elections coming up this week and this is a really good opportunity to hold licensing departments and Constabulary feet to the fire.

I applied back in Jan 2020 and got my FAC in November 2020....long 9 months, London area...I had to lodge a complaint and escalate to be able to have my FAC issued...that is unacceptable...everyone seems to be using Covid-19 as a pretext to slow things down even more than it should be....Good luck to the ones applying now...

Pre Lockdown (Kent), SGC took 28days from day they received application to get having license at my door, and this included a home visit. hopefully they will be back on track now covid restrictions are calming down.

I recently renewed mine. Given the restrictions, it wasn't too bad. About six weeks, I live in Northamptonshire.

I applied for my SGC in August 2020, I had my visit which turned out to be a phone call 4 days ago (May 17th] so a 9 month wait here in Somerset. They did say it was down to COVID and an increase in demand (100 applications on Xmas eve alone)

Applied for a sgc grant with Thames Valley and had mine accepted back in November 2020. Have finally had my home visit date confirmed for June so fingers crossed it will only be 8 months. My FEO did say they have suspended all new grants until further notice. Fingers crossed I get to see my Cert by the end of summer.

My Variation had taken 1 week this included a like for like and one item removed and a new firearm added Well Done Staffs !!

was issued my SGC just before the first lockdown 2020, it took 7 months (Surrey area)

I purchased a shotgun (goes on an FAC here in NI) first week in January, applied and had it in the door within 4.5weeks. Put in a variation 3days ago and will see how long that takes. But useful info and good to keep an eye on the stats and put the pressure on when needed to at least try make some improvement.

Anyone know what the average length of time would be for a SGC in scotland/glasgow ?

I live in Manchester and applied for my SGC on 02/01/2020 and only had my home check on Friday

My first application (1994) took 3 days, my most recent application (2017) took 6 months

I applied for my SGC on the 21st April 21. Upon the confirmation of receipt email, the chap said I shouldn't expect to have a visit by the FEO until, "some time next year". I emailed them in August to say my cabinet is ready for inspection and I can make myself available anytime and my reference would return any request immediately in the hope that they'd be open to getting a quick application off their desks. Got a similar no can do response along the lines of backlogs, covid, etc etc, it will take as long as it takes to get to your application. I've resigned myself to it taking until its done. But it does leave a bitter taste. I'm so tempted to respond with s suggestion that perhaps people could up the tempo a little and work as if their incomes depended on it rather than at the pace so many civil servants seem to adopt once they have their feet firmly under their desks.....that is a generalisation I know. I know many such civil servants put shifts in each day. But the general unhelpful and disinterested "manana" type attitude we seem to get more often than not with such matter here in the UK, to be quite frank, pisses me off.

I started probation period in shooting club a couple of weeks ago and I'm based in Somerset. After seeing it I am losing my faith that I'll get FAC by the end of this year...

I can understand the waiting times for 1st/New license, but for a renewal it should be almost Automatic, especially if nothing has changed ie new address. what abt Scotland?.

North Wales still not accepting applications, variations etc due to covid 19.

In America it takes me about 10 mins to drive to a gun store 1 min to park 10 mins to select a gun 3 mins to fill out background check 2 mins to pay. So about 30 mins to buy a gun in my state. New York City it take take up to and past a year to get a permit.

I have been waiting for my renewals as they are up this month, but I had a letter back saying that I can keep my guns for another 8 weeks until the have decided about me having my renewal certificates, so i'm guessing there might be a back log or something like that but will know in time.

Applied 9 days ago, inspector comes round in 7 days making a total of 16 days. Essex way. Told they go by postcode.

Perhaps they should not take payment until the application is either granted/refused - currently, in Lincolnshire and for SGC at least, you pay £79.50 at the time you submit the application. If payment was withheld perhaps there would be more urgency to process the applications to keep the cash flowing?

I also find BASC didn't seem very bothered about my application concerns when they found out I was a target shooting club member... I guess because I wasn't wearing tweed, a flat cap, have a gun dog and out shooting pheasants they don't really care... The worst thing also being withholding of the FACs etc is damaging to the industry, how are RFDs doing when we can't fund their businesses either?

Only been waiting 10 months so far. Even then they will probably bin it as I am on 10 mg ssri. Been shooting for 2-3 years now.

Average is 12 weeks in Scotland.

Durham is by far the worst overall. And somehow they can process coterminous grants and renewals quicker than either just a FAC or SGC!?

Avon and North Somerset are the worst in the country I live in Wiltshire and a lot of the customers in one shop I use come from Somerset and they never have a good word to say about there licensing department

Anyone know how long it is taking to receive an sgc grant around Avon and Somerset? Why do they take so long? And why the hell are they still clinging onto covid as an excuse? Seems like they are just fobbing people off as long as possible

I do wish you would break your slave mentality. No one has the right to tell you what you can and can not own. Lawfully you can own any firearm you wish, without any licence or certificate at all. Any restrictions put on you is a violation of your rights and freedom.
