I've had various FEOs ranging from the local unformed copper, through a retired detective sergeant to the current (the last 3 occasions) ex-international small bore target shooter. The retired detective was a difficult character who took me to task because I was an insulin dependant diabetic, mainly because his ex-detective partner (also a diabetic) was constantly on the verge of having hypos and needing chocolate bars to stabilise himself. Being a diabetic is no reason per se to withhold a license especially as my consultant had confirmed my fitness and stating that my condition was well controlled. (I once saw a pink elephant so all elephants must be pink is the saying that fitted the circumstance with that FEO). My renewal interview last year was conducted on the phone, which was on the basis of "any changes, none - good, therefore we will approve the application" Each time the other two FEOs have checked my security they have been complimentary and suggested that I register my cabinet as being a 4-gun unit instead of 3-gun in case I wanted to buy an additional gun. I consider that to be uncommonly helpful.

We in Lincolnshire now have to have additional security in place if we own more than five shotguns/firearms, eg approved alarm system/cameras. I received an email with the new regulations a while back and my FEO contacted me to confirm that ruling when i applied for an additional rifle that would have took my total to six. I'm not sure if this is now nationwide, maybe others will comment. Keep up the great vids mate.

Very insightful! Around the 8 min mark you mention justifying why you want X gun and proving competency however I take it this would be a bit difficult for LBP/LBRs? I’m looking to get my FAC hopefully before the year is up and aiming to get a .22 lbp and either .357 or .44 LBR as well however the understanding is only the owners of the guns themselves can shoot these? I’ve shot a fair few guns abroad including ‘normal’ magnum revolvers so I’d hope this could go towards proving competency!
@JammyGuns
@JammyGuns 3 жыл бұрын
You don't have to prove competency with a specific firearm type, it's more the case that it's assumed you already have it generally via completing the probationary period at your club and becoming a full member. In other words they know that you know what you're doing in regard to firearm safety at the point of FAC application, otherwise the club wouldn't have given you the nod. You're correct in that an LBP/LBR and Sec 1 shotgun can ONLY be shot/handled by the certificate holder of those specific firearms (down to the serial number), but what you've personally shot or how much experience you have or don't have with a certain firearm is irrelevant. As long as you can legally justify its need (not even necessarily down your club but any legal range) then you're good.

I had to have an inspection for safe storage of firearms, the constable that did the inspection of my safe decided to kick it to see if it was securely anchored. I had showed him the 10mm dynabolts drilled into the concrete. I informed him I had to push the safe into place with the bull bar with my 4wd. The safe weighs about 300 kg and is a commercially produced safe. After the inspection he issued a certificate ,over and above the required specifications.

I held back on buying a safe as like you, I didn't want to pay out for one. The FEO was understanding, and said get in touch when installed. He rocked up 2 months later after my interview, took a look at the safe, and said "right, see you in 5 years". Equally, my club were really good at taking me and new members through the FAO/SGC approval process - no other club I've joined do this. Additionally, I had declared my mental health history, and he probed a little bit but was very understanding - probably helped that my therapist was willing to write a testimonial. The cost of the GP letter was £150 which was ridiculous which didn't have any suitability notes.

On a serious note, given that the interview may take a few months at times, do realise that you can do an on-the-fly variation by changing calibres, mods, amount of ammo based on your conversation. Hi Callum, I have been clay shooting many times over the years and am hoping to apply for a SGL very soon. I’m only hoping to get one to start with but hoping to get a 5 gun license. My only concern is that I’m an avid Airsoft player and so have replica firearms stored beside where I keep my one-shotgun gun safe. I have an up-to-date UKARA license (necessary for realistic, imitation firearms). Is it possible that my affiliation with replica firearms could be a negative? Really just hoping to not have to borrow someone else on shotgun when I go clay pigeon shooting!

@Sam_Holt 4 ай бұрын
1. You can't borrow someone elses shotgun. Only the person on the licence with the matching serial number for that gun can use it. 2. Airsoft weapons are a different category unless they exceed 12 joules, then they are classed as section 1 which = trouble.

@@deedoubleyatraining In another strange twist I decided to follow my misses to America, so I'll likely have access to all the fun stuff within a year. I have had my section 1 cert for a year now. I shoot an impact .22 with slugs for pest control. I am not interested in powder burners what so ever. I put in for my “open ticket” about 2 months ago. I was refused as they’re saying I’ve not had my licence long enough 🤔. When would you say would be long enough for me to ask again? I have acquired more permissions which involves the feo to make a long journey to come see me every time. If I had an open ticket then wouldn’t that mean I can decide if the land I plan to shoot on is justifiable to use fac rifle?

Around 2 years ,you're licence is opened up on your next renewal.If you can prove you have been doing quite a bit of shooting and have had inquaries by other farmers etc to carry out pest control and you feel that you are restricted too much ,they may grant you it .If you only own rimfire and get an open ticket ,that probably won't be valid when you get a centre fire rifle ,that will be back on a closed ticket until you gain more experience .That was how I found it ,I got everything opened up after two years due to the pest control I was doing over a large area ,there was a possibility that some of the land may not have been passed ,some odd fields here and there ,so to stay legal it was better that I had an open ticket ,its all to do with areas and situations as they all different , and every case is different .

Not a problem at all. The only time that would be of interest to them is if you have housemates, whether they'd be prohibited people, and whether they have access to the safe. In fact, I've heard of FEOs actually recommending to NOT tell your landlord that you own firearms, as "the fewer folks who know, the safer your guns are". Mine just asked "your safe drilled into the wall?", I confirmed, and he followed up with a joking; "your landlord won't throw a wobbly about drilling holes?" Other than that, he never even mentioned the rental status.

On the phone, a firearms officer heard me say, "Well, I don't want to spend a small fortune on a safe, get it bolted to a wall, then find out that I'm not getting my certificate/gun." He said, "Fair comment...let's just say...fill out your form and send it to us." I said, "Okay, but what about my history of mental health troubles." He changed direction and said, "Aaah...send in your form, but don't buy any safe." That was all I needed to hear. I thought it was a right of ours, to have the paperwork and buy a shotgun?

@@ckg1776 I think he's talking about the UK (Cumbria 2010). Personally I do believe in the vetting/background check side of gun control - it doesn't stop all hardcore criminals but does keep them out the hands of those who are wholly unsuitable (mentally etc) but otherwise don't have serious criminal contacts/easy illegal access. The actual bans on the other hand are total nonsense. It isn't due to the banning of certain firearms that we have low gun crime stats, it's due to the thorough vetting of the firearm owners.

@kenofken9458
@kenofken9458 7 ай бұрын
That has to do with our particular history in America around the roaring 20s - 1920s of course. Though the violence of that time would be considered modest these days, it horrified the establishment and they decided, not entirely unreasonably, that certain weapons had no place in general circulation. In 1934, the National Firearms Act effectively put machine guns, short barrel rifles and shotguns and silencers out of reach for most people via high taxes and registration requirements. When it was first enacted, a $200 tax was ruinously high for most people, being worth almost $3,500 in today's money. I'm not sure how often suppressors were actually used in crimes back then, but they came to be seen as an instrument of stealth and skulduggery, not sportsmanship. I think I read somewhere that one concern was that they would enable game poachers to get away with their activities more easily. In reality, it's not that hard to buy a suppressor legally in the U.S. If your state allows them, and most do, you have to do your federal paperwork and pay the $200 tax and wait up to a year for the papers to clear.
