In this episode I take Eddie to a weigh scale and see how much he weighs so far. Eddie is my 12 x 7 DIY travel trailer, camper, caravan. He's just a cargo trailer at this point but before I finish the interior I need to know how heavy he is.

I was guessing 2400 pounds. Homebuilt stuff is "always heavier" than factory built, I suspect mostly because the factory is always looking for ways to save material costs, whereas the home builder is thinking more of trying to build for longevity, and since it's a on-off build, there is not that much added cost to build it heavier. Eddie is looking good, I look fwd to you getting it out camping.

Looking good. Keep an eye on your tongue weight, with the axle further back it will likely increase it as the build continues. The foam falling out indicates a fair bit of twist that spray foam may remedy in the future. Looking forward to seeing it being used.

May I suggest a friction sway control. I built a few campers from teardrops to small toy haulers and the sway control gives you a piece of mind even if you don't need it especially with a 1/2 ton truck. It makes backing up a little more work but it does help in wind.

Cool. Information empowers you to move forward. The ways you have insulated Eddie should make him warmer than your truck bed extended camper & you can stand up! Especially with the wood stove. But that tiny firebox will need feeding a time or 2 in the night. You may want radiant floor heat that runs off your Bluetti or Jackery if the waking up is an issue. Good reason to test it before you keep building. You can test your floor plan & lighting before it is permanent too. He sure looks good.

*One Tonne is about what I might have supposed. 5 million kilometers of commercial driving experience offered several lesson in overbuilding. If you might travel on any steep grades you might want the heavier axle. Those axle ratings are usually "flat land ratings". FYI: Michelin LT235-85R16" TEN-PLY MIGHT BE A GOOD TIRE CHOICE. Weight limit about 3000 pounds per tire at 80 psi. As you suggested... You are right... The heavier frame , axle and tires are low mounted weight and well worth the few extra kilograms. The stiffer frame will resist flexing more than the ultra-lite models will... OR, the ultra light will flex more than your rugged duty model. As you know, it is preferred to NOT load frame, axle and tires full maximum capacity, all of the time. If I want my stuff to last I try to load to HALF CAPACITY or MAYBE 75% OF LOAD CAPACITY. US ARMY 'off road rated trailers' had a plaque on them restricting OFF ROAD weight limits to 'half' of flat highway or on road weight limits. I believe those engineers got it right.*

Can't imagine hitting 3500 lbs when finished. It's not like you will have a Lazy Boy collection. The frame was the weight. Nice job.

I am just catching up on this series, having watched 1-14 now. Maybe I missed it, but I haven't seen yet how you decided where to place the axle. WIthout having a design complete when you built the frame, how could you make sure your tongue weight would be appropriate when the build is finished?

Do you remember how much the steel weighed. I might build with a little lighter steel members but it might not save much weight.

At 2200lbs without any interior work done, you need to get a stronger axle. Best of luck on the build.
@johnevans7065

You should have disconnected the trailer from the truck and weighted it by itself. Also should have weighed the trailer hooked to the truck with the trailer only on the scale. That way you know what the weight is on the axle.
