All straight trucks are not all created equal when it comes to how much weight they can haul. There are several factors that come into play. In this video we talk about a few.

As a retired trucker, I remember critics telling me it don't take much to drive a truck, and my response was always, between calculating hours, miles, and weight distribution, you better be an A+ at math otherwise you won't have a CDL for long.

Hi kiddos. I totally understand about the weight thing. I bought a camper back in 2007 it match it up to a new F-150. Oh yeah that truck will pull it with no problems. But what you don't think about is when you load up the refrigerator and the freezer and all the crap you carry with you couple of coolers full of beer and sodas bicycles blah blah blah xcetera suddenly you should have bought an F250 Diesel. I totally get it😂👍

Excellent video. You explained it very well. We didn't have heavy enough ply steer tires that we purchased from our local Good Year dealer. Was having poor steer tire total mileage and wear. Went to Sioux Falls, S.D dealer and he told us we weren't using a heavy enough ply steer tire. End of problem. Thank you for the video Heather and Jason. I watched it twice.

That was very interesting and right-on information. I've been watching trucking videos for the last 4 years and I've come to know a good bit about them them, they are all semi and heavy haul. You are the only straight truck video I watch, so I learned somethings I didn't know from you guys. I know too, each state has laws about the amount of weight allowed on their roads. Not you so much for you guys, but the Heavy Haul guys have to really concern themselves with each state weight requirements and also axle requirements as some recognize pusher axles and flip axles while other states don't, and some states want the truck to have a stinger, etc. It all boils down to your truck handling the load safely and the weight per axle allowed by the bridge law and the states you are going thru. That is why heavy haulers also need permits and get routed, even when its out of their way. I think Ohio has the highest most stringent laws for all trucks. You also have to be concerned about height when driving heavy haul as some states bridges are lower than others. Usually the requirement I believe is 13 feet 7 inches high for most states from the ground to the highest point of the load you carry. .........

You are welcome.... Jason probably already knew what I said, but since I know i thought I'd share it. I think you next truck should be a 5 axle straight truck with a 18,000 steer axle LoL.... I already drove a truck like the latter rigging, delivering large machines. They would take a regular tractor, cut the frame and stretch it for the length you want and add a another axle with dual wheels. The international I drove when I was young had a really long flat bed but only a day cab. The crane took up a lot of room too. Nothing like a big truck like that with a small gas engine and two gear shifts, as the truck was built in 1962. Ten to fifteen miles per hour going up a large hills loaded was the norm, for example when I went north towards the Allegheny mountains in PA. LoL.

I am use to putting on 20 pallets and hauling 49,000lbs. I just can't fathom 5000lbs. that's like 2 pallets you could essentially buy a big camper and have an area for 2 pallets and you wouldn't have to stop at scales or dot inspections, you could expedite in a camper and nobody would know your hauling anything, people in campers get away with murder overloaded no CDL no medical card its my criminal mind working the system. LOL!!! Damn Jason you did your homework, info out the wazooo!! I never understood the bridge law, length of the vehicle has something to do with it if you have a 53' trailer you really don't have to worry it when you have a short trailer like a container of a dump trailer, then what happens your over all length comes down and your 80,000 lbs that's why tri axle can only gross 73280 because they have heavier axles and are shorter its complicated and ever body has a different opinion even the cops. Strait trucks don't really have to worry about it, their wheel base is set where a tractor and trailer varies day to day.

Jason great job on explaining the axle weights the bridge laws and stuff you do a great job on that and your drone videos are out of this world Heather I do have a question for you I noticed you guys got several appliances that you guys like to use when you cook on the truck do you go by certain wattages are does it matter what it is that you use our and do you have a favorite piece that you use to cook with a lot on there I have been curious about that. LOL the babies were playing behind us at the beginning of the video. 🐶 Awww thank you for wanting to send us something for our anniversary! 😊 You absolutely don’t have to do that but it is so sweet and so thoughtful of you & Hope.
