I was a bit too old for Twilight. I was/am a Buffy girl, so I'll say I'm team Spike after he gets his soul back. Though, I did get high and watch all the Twilight movies as they came out. I was in my early 20's and weed was legal where I lived. I'd say I'm team Bella stays single.

My personal attitude towards soreness is: If I'm a bit sore for a few days, that's okay and I make sure to not bother the same muscle again too soon afterwards. And I do work out when I'm sore if it is only a litle bit. But if you are so sore that it prevents you from working out for days because every step _really_ hurts - the intensity was too high and should be dialled down by a lot. The muscle must have enough time to repair itself and grow.

@@JustinaErcole I need to put that attitude into action now. I recently started to do resistance training again after a lengthy pause because of troubles I had with my wrist. And now three sets of 14 reps squats with a pair of 5 kg dumbbells (~10-11 lbs) is enough to make my quads unhappy enough that I can't do my planned leg day three days later because of the DOMS. Need to drop the weight down or modify otherwise until they are up to the task again.

I'm always excited when I am sore - though only until I have to move around 😅 Could you do a video about wrist pain when holding dumbbells and/or doing planks/push ups? I always feel like I'm holding my dumbbells incorrectly and am not sure about how you are supposed to hold them in curls compared to chest press or rows etc so that your wrists don't hurt so much. I really need to learn how (not) to hold dumbbells 😂

I don't get wrist pain but I do get pain in the base of my palm. It's frustrating because it makes doing push ups and planks very uncomfortable.

Have you give wrist support a go? It helps stabilise my wrist when using dumbells.

I liked this style of video! It was also super helpful for me - I've been annoyed that I'm rarely sore after training upper body (but am usually sore after training lower body), but it's possible I'm not really progressing hard enough bc I hate training upper body lol 😅😅 Gotta work on that Also, despite his red flags, I'm Team Edward for sure haha ❤️

If you haven't already, can you talk about the effectivity of building muscle with different modalities? Free weights vs machine vs springs on a megaformer, vs bands etc... :)

Hey, Justina! Thanks for the video ❤️. Really interesting, as usual! I have a question or more like a confusion. So we thought the soreness comes from accumulation of lactic acid. Now it is said to actually be micro-tears in the muscle. Now... I noticed something on myself: if I am sore but decide to workout through the soreness, then the soreness kind of goes away. Well, if the soreness is micro-tears in the muscle, then how come it goes away when I workout through it? I mean, it makes more sense to be lactic acid, cause then when you workout, it gets redistributed (?) and then soreness goes away / lessens. But if it is actual muscle tear then can we say muscles rebuild somehow during workout? Maybe my logic here is f-ed up or my soreness feels are messed up. What do you think? Does it make sense to you?
@JustinaErcole
@JustinaErcole Жыл бұрын
Your body is smart and can adapt to get you through movement :) the lactic acid thing has been disproven.

I find the biggest thing is taking care of my body in general - eating nutritious food to support the healing, getting enough sleep, etc. Random comment: One professional ballet dancer once said in a video that she liked being sore because it allowed her to really feel which the muscles she needed to use in certain positions and movements.
@JustinaErcole
@JustinaErcole Жыл бұрын
I love that mindset! And about the ballet dancer, I don't think her comment is super applicable to most people unfortunately :)

I haven't had an issue with DOMS really, but rather I'll cramp up especially in my legs during the night and it's starting to impact my sleep 😅 definitely need to do some more research but I wonder if it could be relieved with additional water intake since 3+ rest days between training sessions hasn't helped
@JujuSellsFamily

It could be potassium deficiency? Leg cramps are a pretty classic symptom (from an RN) and your muscles use more potassium with exercise.

I get such terrible DOMs in my quads that I've developed a real phobia of lunges, squats, etc, etc. I'm terrible at identifying the threshold between good workout and crippling pain for the next 3 days because I don't hurt during or immediately after the workout. Any preworkout tips for preventing DOMs?

Same... I do pretty much the same Leg moves each week on Leg Day so I dont know why I still get soooo sore, especially as I dont introduce any new stimulus ... The soreness mainly comes as I get up from having been sitting and it reduces when I go walking for a while or play Netball etc. Would love thoughts on this 😊
