The reset on smaller overload is also the stop function in a latched control circuit.

Nice video... though if you are planning on doing teardown videos of electrical equipment you should probably take a look at the EEVBlog channel. It's rare that you have to get medieval on something with a hammer and stuff and when it does need more persuasion it's better to break out a dremel to cut things open.

A toroid around a bar to measure current in a copper bar that is very interesting and simple. I've seen a C shape iron ceramic core with a hall effect sensor in the C's gap to measure the current in a copper bar being used.

Some numbers on what you set your overload overload protection at in the US. Our code says you set it at no more that 125% of the 'nameplate full load current rating' of the motor (unless that's not enough, then 140%) {NEC 430.32}. Also a mistake electricians make, is confusing Full Load Amps (FLA) with Locked Rotor Current (LRC). Using the motor at 4:15 as an example; FLA is 25 Amps, Overload would be 31 Amps (maybe 35 Amps), Locked Rotor Current for Code 'J' = 191-215 Amps. A normal circuit breaker would be sized at 77.5 amps, BUT the conductors would be sized for 31 Amps. That was fun, keep the riddles coming! All good, mate. Having your kids show ANY interest in things enjoy is just the best. Tell Oakley "Hello for Texas!" great explanation video. If I understand correctly, this is - at its core - a complicated circuit breaker that tells the circuit to trip instead of doing the tripping?
