The problem I have with Julia's trauma is that her reactions feel too overacted. She doesn't ever feel scared of him, it's just a knee jerk reaction. He could huff his breath and she'll be like "OMG MY TRAUMA! I FORGOT I HAD IT UNTIL NOW!". She's not scared of Paul or kissing Paul, but we're supposed to believe she's scared to kiss Gabriel? The man she actually wants to be around? He didn't even do anything to intimidate her! If anything, he was being drunk, adorable, and flirty! They need to learn how to write trauma better in books. If he did a specific action I would understand

TL;DR I explain why he doesn’t remember her: KENDALL LISTEN- okay I have to explain, I read the first book a couple years back (did not continue the series it’s SO trash) but the reason why he can’t remember anything is cuz the man was BLACKED OUT DRUNK during all their interactions. Hi I’m currently reading the book and in the present timeline Julia is 23 and Gabriel is 33 in the past timeline she was 17 and he was 27 and that’s not even the biggest red flag in the book so far in the chapter of the nightclub scene he straight up inner monologues that he’s taking them there because he was ‘confident he could control the environment’ I’m really trying to understand what makes him so attractive to Julia he’s been nothing but an asshole to her the entire time since she got to that school it’s fucked up

Also they never met. Julia became friends with his sister when he was in college and he never visited. They only spoke about him and she fell in love with his pictures. The day they met it was the first day they met and then he didn’t visit his family ever again. She kept loving him tho. He was also drunk and high of cocaine and he thought that she was a hallucination when he woke up the next day.

@@fatimakhan4671 usually the brother is older and generally unkind to the protagonist until they become of age and "hot". which has weird pedophile under tones and a power dynamic in which the guy can get away with anything because the girl has been pining after him for ages think a local celebrity (at least to her anyway) taking advantage of a fan. of course in real life the situation is a lot more healthy (hopefully anyway) but the way fan fiction portrays it is just very toxic. but thats just how i view it hope i made sense :)

Y’all, I did it-I found a way to make it make sense. My man must’ve had undiagnosed prosopagnosia. In other words, face blindness. The reason he never recognized her was because he can’t recognize faces (at least, he couldn’t recognize them out of the context of where he first saw the person, and how they looked when he first saw them) I doubt that was the intention of the movie, but it’s a cool, potential headcannon that would fix a lot of the problems lol.

"Sea urchin" had me laughing so hard! On a serious note, the whole inability to recognize someone is a trope that comes up fairly often in kdramas and it bothers me so much. Especially when they gradually fill in the blanks of how the characters knew each other in the past and there's just no possible way aside from significant brain damage that they wouldn't be able to know each other in the present (I think I rage quit Uncontrollably Fond because of this bs).

They could’ve gone down two roads: One, Gabriel is an abusive pos who DOES remember her, but is pretending not to in order to manipulate her into his life again after they broke up six years ago because he was an abusive pos. The first part of the movie is him pretending not to know her and, during the second act, it is revealed that she knows him. They get back together, her thinking he is no longer the pos he was, life seems great. And in the third act, we as the viewer gets to know that he remembers her and this is all an act for them to get back together and we start seeing a bad side to him (with his anger issues and being generally abusive) Second, he doesn’t remember due to a car crash or something that gave him long term amnesia (or something of the sort). It’d explain his anger issues, because he’s angry he doesn’t remember huge chunks of his life, and maybe have him slowly start to realize he knows her somehow but can’t exactly place her. Have the story told from his perspective on not remembering, maybe almost becoming obsessed with finding out who she is to him (idk if that’s something one would keep but it could be interesting). Also, reduce the age gap. PLEASE AND YET,, THEY CHOSE,,, THE THIRD, INVISIBLE ROAD NO ONE WANTED THEM TO GO DOWN
