Translating Pokemon from original japanese language to english is pretty hard. Sometimes you have to do some changes for the local audience to understand certain aspects of the game. However I believe that keeping the original japanese culture references in the pokemon anime give kids a chance to learn more about other cultures and promotes the country as a tourist destination.

It's a shame that they didn't translate _"Bijo ga bijobijo."_ as _"Pretty girls will be wetty girls."_ as in fansub. It is one of the best pun in anime. Misty's sisters and Ash's reaction to this pun is also hilarious.

Haha that's pretty good. The English dub has its brilliant moments but the fansubs will always be closer to the original feel.

You should talk about how and why the music for every modern pokemon episode in English is so different than its Japanese counterpart. Personally I think that the Dub's music is uninspired, uses the same tracks over and over again, and never knows when to stop playing unlike the Japanese version with its high intensity soundtrack, quiet moments, etc

that's interesting to me because for me, the music is one of the few things the localization got right (maybe only 2nd to the iconic pokemon yellow and blue logo). personally I love almost every song on 2ba master, but there are very few of the japanese songs I like. the nakanakanakanaka one is bleh

About Celebi, who doesn't know what shinto is, obviously end up confused about why the locals worshiped Celebi as a forest spirit. So, it it logical why they changed it. the humans seen a pokemon who able to control plants, have heal powers, and have a strong connection with the forest. Because of this, they started to see the pokemon a divine spirit of the forest. The reasion why I say "divine spirit" because this kind of kami is not the forest itself but an idea, which was born from the humans as they witnessed this pokemon pass by time to time. Native spirits are the ones whose are the embodiment of nature. For example, anything which able to live long get a spirit and become a kami. Mountains, lands, rivers, rocks, every single thing. However, unlike divine spirits whose are an idea of someone (who excited in the past and died by doing something amazing thing and people worshiped them because of that,) native spirits don't have a specific form. They can look like whatever they want which are part of their dominant. But their orginial bodies are that specific object from who they came from. For example, a native spirit of a mountain can take a form of whatever that mountain hold on itself. (animals, humans, plants, etc) But it is not exactly them, so even if you kill them they don't die since the mountain itself is the physical body of that spirit. Which means, the spirit only die, if their physical body get destroyed. That is the reasion why these spirits are local deities. They only can reach those parts what their physical bodies can reach. Like, a river kami can go anywhere whatever that river goes, but can't go where the river doesn't go. Or, a mountain spirit can't leave the mountain because that thing dosn't move. So, if the people who worshiped that kami, leave that mountain, the spirit dies by lack of faith since they can't follow the people. Divine spirits in the other hand, able to move freely, even split their spirits so they able to be in so many places at once. Of course, they live as long as the people who created them still remember of them, since they are a form of idea of an existed being. So, if they become forgetten, they disappear. Native spirits on the other hand, return into nature where they came from. Since, they technically parts of nature itself. I am sorry this comment ended up this long. But, knowing the difference between the two spirits is interesting. Celebi is a existing pokemon and I am sure there are more of this species just rare to be seen. But it's unique power inspired and created this idea in people's mind that it is a divine spirit of the forest. Even if this is not the case in reality.

I knew that it was an Altar or Shrine to celebrate a member of the family who passed away in the games and some people just don't believe in the Spiritual side at all but I do believe in the Afterlife because I have seen a Real Ghost or Spirit of a fallen worker which was a bit creepy to to see a see-through grayish hugh Man walking straight through a wall which I noticed him in the mirror at first which I did turn around which he just walked straight into the wall which is like a doorway from him! 🤷👻 At first I was completely wondering what I just saw which I thought that it was my own mother but that's when I realized that people can't walk through Walls besides also remembering that the Ghost/Spirit is a Man as well which I felt very silly to think that the man Ghost/Spirit was my mother! 😱😅👌

Personally i strongly dislike localization changes, primarily due to a combination of me feeling it gets in the way of getting my hands on the japanese product And my personal childhood experience where i hated my own culture (america) so much that i wanted to escape from american culture and be somewhere where American culture dose not exsist but being an 7 year old in the late 1990s ment that was pretty much impossible so i had to turn to media but all forign media was localized meaning i couldnt escape the culture of the country i lived in and that was painful to me and i simply want foreign media to be translated and made available in other countries but never involve localization changes so that kids who want to experience a way of thinking that isnt part their own culture may have that option,

Personally, I think it’s best for shows aimed at younger audiences, such as Pokémon, to have their cultural references trimmed for international release. Young ones wouldn’t understand the references and it could lead them down the rabbit hole of becoming a weeb way too early.
