As a teenager I was always quite thin. I had it in my mind that I needed to get big and muscular because that's all I was seeing on social media at the time. It turns out I had a bowel disease so gaining weight just wasn't going to happen. Since then I've dropped social media and I've accepted how I look because no matter what you'll always end up seeing exaggerated ideals while online. We're all unique and that's what makes us awesome in our own way. Flaws and all.

I am quite thin as well, and I can't gain weight either. I eat all I can but the max I've eaten after days of eating was around 2 pounds (not that I care that much, just as long as it doesn't harm my health, I'm very confident in my body). Personally, I like my body, and I like my boyfriend's body as well, so I'm positive I don't really have my perception of beauty warped, but the main focus I wanna make here is that I find it odd that I "suffer" from something similar to what you described here (don't get me wrong, I like being slim, but I would like a bit more weight)
@epic3765
@epic3765 11 ай бұрын
@@Hawk_Bro I've definitely felt a sense of society having a "minimum" standard when it comes to weight. Social media and how people behave towards thinner people in general plays a huge role in that. As long as we're healthy then that's what really matters. Tell you what though, even though I'm thin I can eat a hell of a lot in one go if I really feel like it. I love seeing people's reaction to that when I do it.

@@epic3765 I do as well, though, I mainly do it just because I'm hungry My family usually criticizes me when i take massive bites and eat fast just out of pure hunger 😅 I don't mean to make a pig of myself, but when im hungry, I eat.

I had a friend that was addicted to social media. When I took a cute picture of her natural self, she went into denial and said it was soooi ugly. She demanded I retake the picture with her in posture, duckface and different lighting, just for her to put some filters on top of it in the end. It was really sad to witnesa.

The same concept applies within addiction circles. A certain kink/look/lifestyle looks more appealing because of social media and therefore it's sought after more often even if there's detriment to it. :(

I grew up raised by my grandparents who were overweight due to depression and traumas (Vietnam). I never once thought they were “ugly”, but my grandma had always seen her appearance in a negative light - even when she was young and thin and bullied for having “chicken legs”. It breaks my heart.

I think a lot of people refuse to acknowledge that it's usually not the body shape that most people find unattractive in heavy people. Usually when people are fat-shaming, they're ridiculing the attributes that come with being fat... like laziness, poor hygiene, lack of self-awareness, lack of self control, having self-entitlement, being selfish or greedy, or gluttonous. Not saying everyone is like this, but most people will never find heavy people attractive unless they can prove they're none of these things, and that they're truly beautiful on the inside.

Interesting. I've never thought of heavy folk having those attributes at a glance. I thought fat shaming was based off the shape, not prejudice.

i'm sure it's different for everyone, and you wouldn't know unless you asked every individual. Lots of heavy people are loved and considered beautiful to societies standards, and are never shamed except maybe by those who have obvious insecurities themselves, and they're most likely just projecting. @@SharpBalisong

Embracing your natural appearance on social media is a wonderful step towards authenticity and self-acceptance. By sharing photos of your makeup-free, unfiltered face, you're promoting a positive message about embracing one's true self. It's important to recognize that various cameras and lighting conditions can indeed affect how we appear in photos, which doesn't define our real-life beauty. Your willingness to showcase the real you encourages others to feel comfortable in their own skin and challenges the unrealistic standards often perpetuated by filters and AI tools. Remember, everyone is unique and deserving of kindness, so refraining from commenting on others' appearances is a respectful way to promote positivity and acceptance in the online world.

Thank you for mentioning Christina!!! She’s always been criticized, she has always been skinny because that’s her body type and tried to gain weight, but then it was too much, then she lost it. Then she gained it because of a very hard period in her life and the body shaming she received at the time was huge. She managed to lose weight some years later but gained it again with her second pregnancy. Sadly she couldn’t lose it again, and preferred plastic surgery which I’m totally against 😔

I’ve always believed in natural beauty, and I still do. But something that has affected me over the past year or two has been seeing so many males being attracted to fictional female characters who are tall with big curves and personalities so opposite to mine (they are mature and flirty while I’m shy and insecure). It makes me wonder if a female like me who is neither curvy, tall, nor has the mature/flirty personality can be truly loved in today’s day and age.

Interested. Maybe because I’m old, or just different, but physical looks have rarely made someone attractive to me. One of the reasons Jane Austen novels are still popular even today is because the heroine in a lot of her stories aren’t the prettiest, but they get the man because of their inner beauty. Yet, they aren’t considered romance novels, just novels.

It’s funny, because (at least on the male from) I say plus sized men more attractive. When it came to the ladies I might be lucky because I cared more about their stylistic choices than their body. And I always and still find people with acne that reddens their faces cute. If you want to lose weight, do it for your health. You will be so surprised that despite social media does all this, in the end, no one gives a f***. Once I went out not dressed properly, with hair tangles and I tied them. I went to call someone hi, and they just rejected me. Idk if it was intentional or if she didn't hear, but then the next day I went and completely dressed went with all tangles detangled, painful dayx nearly plaited and I went, she was like, hi how are you? I think it's because of the proximity probably. But, when I came out I did feel happy but, I felt so discouraged, Why do I need to change it for someone else? Even if she did care, it doesn't feel genuine, and it doesn't feel like she would give an f about it. Nobody does. Even if you did lose weight the hype is not gonna last for long and that validation doesn't feel valid enough for you to feel valid.Although I admit that I might be toxic here. But, the thing is we get so much caught up with this entire hype of being accepted somewhere that we never see how much we are giving in to be "accepted" our lives are more worth it than any other hype. I am not saying that losing weight is a bad thing, when it's a health concern. But sometimes everyone forget how people actually look like. One time, there were clubs for fat men because they thought they had more money.

In the modern age of social media, the phenomenon of altering one's appearance through filters and AI tools draws parallels with Oscar Wilde's novel "The Picture of Dorian Gray." Just as Dorian Gray becomes obsessed with maintaining his youthful appearance, individuals today can easily modify their images online, projecting an idealized version of themselves. The contrast between Dorian's portrait and his real self mirrors the disparity between digitally altered online personas and genuine human characteristics. The novel's exploration of the consequences of a double life and the allure of an eternal façade resonates with today's discussions about authenticity, self-image, and the impact of technology on our perception of beauty and identity.

@@rudylovato2759 well if you’re the strongest man alive good for you, but judging others isn’t ok, most people fear or care about others opinions because you may also be left alone if you’re not liked by others you know. And human beings don’t function well if they’re lonely. Most people grow up wanting a little bit of approval and you have no right to judge them when it’s a feeling that’s almost impossible to overcome because it’s learnt at a very young age What you said is cold and non empathetic

@@ChocoParfaitFra I am not the strongest man in the world and i am not passing judgement on anyone because no one has a right to judge. When one tries to be all things to all people. You create different personas and lose yourself in the pursuit of acceptance. So we must focus on those who like us and walk away from those who don't. This does not lead to isolation, loneliness, insecurity, or inadequacy. You just end up with a small group of really great friends you can love and TRUST. Trust is everything not acceptance.

As a teenager, I used to think that I was unreasonably fat when I was actually skinny. to the point where I starved myself. I did this for two reasons 1) I was unhappy with my body and how it looks and 2) I envied Angelina Jolie and I wanted to look like her because she had the perfect figure. But that's in the past and I'm over it now. Just goes to show how truly Damaging social media is.

For some reason, i can never gain weight no matter how hard i try, ive only been able to get around 2 lbs. Now dont get me wrong, i dont mind being slim, but im 139 lbs at 6'2, so most of my weight and muscles are in my legs and lower body, so i wouldnt mind a bit more weight, but i dont mind. Im glad to know that social media hasnt warped my view of beauty, as im with a bf who isnt the most beautiful to the average person, but is like the holy grail to me. Just remember people, a lot of influences online with certain body types are unrealistic, you never know who youll find who isnt just muscular or the angel to your eyes, sometimes the best person to find and be with is your Average Joe and Average Jane

Don't do this to yourself, you're still growing. Eat normal portions and be patient. You'll turn out just fine. And when you've stopped growing, which is around the age of 22, then you can have a look if you like what you see. If you're really overweight, you can do a good diet. However, discuss this with your doctor. In the mean time, make sure you grow up in a healthy way, you only get one chance to do so. Good luck and take care!

If popular media ever affected my beauty standards, it was as much as two generations ago: I was a child of the 80s, and even then, I disagreed with a few things. If anything ruins beauty for me now, it's that I don't agree with a lot of the changes, or even the solutions to those changes. But I definitely understand, all too well, the pressure to achieve a kind of "Buffness" that may not relate to health. I stay pretty active, and you might be a little surprised at how much a skinny guy like me can lift at the gym (where I go twice a week). But neithe dead-lifting 200 pouns nor all the kettlebell tricks in the world has ever given ME a six-pack, either, and at 48, I find that my slight paunch is very hard to get rid of. And it bothers me, a lot.

I don't have a perfect skin like on social media but i do have fear of nasty bacteria on my skin. I was so obsessed with this since i was a teen back in 2009 and now I'm thankful to continue to be clean. I really don't care about body social media rat race because hey i have been picked on enough that my mind, just like gumball, just don't care. 😅😂

Well, first of only following people celebrating authenticity is a sure road to self-isolate, so let's settle for a mostly. I think the term of defining something as beauty, will always lead to something being ugly, no matter have low the standards become. Which is why I will rather look at looks as a wardrobe, with so much amazing cloths for every season in life, that you have something new to try constantly. The guy you thought look like a million bucks, turns out to be shallow and borderline narcissistic, well no surprise try something new.

My question is these filters are so good that how can you tell if a girl you think is beautiful is using a filter or if she’s really that attractive in real life? There are many girls on Instagram that are naturally beautiful, even if they may use a filter. So, just the fact that we can view all these people plays with your mind. Years ago, when the internet didn’t exist, we didn’t have so many to compare to.

1:33 most people who are not into working out almost every day really dont know that there are two types of abs,let me explain. The two types of abs are usable abs and visible abs. Visbile abs,obviously,are the type of abs you'd see on almost every person who had a career in some kind sport,is an actor/actress or he/she spend his/her life in the gym. But,yea they have a visbile 6 pack,but most of the time,they dont have endurance in their abs. And usable abs are the kind of abs that would help you do even the things you thought where impossible (ex: bar tricks done by a gymnast) . All i can is,you can have one of them,or if your genetics are 1/1000,both. So dont think that because you dont see your abs,you dont have abs. (From experience,i had this type of body dysphormia too,seeing that i dont have abs,but then i discoverd how much core strength i actually have)

Speaking as a woman, I actually prefer skinny guys. The hulking, ripped with a six pack look is kind of a turn off for me. I look at someone like Arnold Scwarzenegger and it does nothing for me. Don't lose hope. There are those of us out there who like all kinds of body types (or who don't care bout looks at all).

Not gonna lie I think a ginormous part of this is that phone cameras could not photograph you any worse than they already do. When I look in the mirror, I can look gorgeous that day, and if I try to take a picture with my phone in the exact same spot without even moving a muscle, I will look like a literal fucking goblin. It takes 100 tries to get one where you look like YOU do in the mirror. I take casual pictures with the Snapchat filters instead, because that looks more like what I see in the mirror, and what other people see, I’m not gonna post a picture where I look like a fucking goblin when I don’t look like that in real life. They need to do something about how phone cameras accentuate every little imperfection and warp your proportions. Snapchat filters might overcompensate on beautifying you, but people look more like the irl versions of themselves when using them, without it the phone camera takes them from a 10/10 to a 2/10

It's amazing how all celebrities and they're body shamed Rihanna as well... mostly women not men celebrities knowing that women who are celebrities have babies, helloooooo they're more than celebrities... but I feel it's jealousy and for people to talk 💩 about celebrities because they're not in their shoes..I say do you feel good about yourself? Because if you do you don't feel much good about yourself now do you?.. the problem is mostly we give strangers on social media to much of a gratification of what they think... and people shouldn't...They're just strangers... they don't know nothing about your life.. they can't even handle your own lives... that's why they bring that negativity to social media...and start hating... especially on celebrities... you don't know what these celebrities go through for you to judge them... and of course envy them... you don't know how hard these celebrities have it but you think tjeu have it easy and they don't... just sad. This is why I ride solo... people need to stop living in LALALAND and back into reality and seek help.. because it's tearing people apart from reality

People always ask why I take pictures of my cosplays with no edits or filters. My answer is simple: I'm not deluded by social media to the point where I feel the need to put on a facade. Plus I'm a guy, so it's not like my pictures will get a billion likes like the majority of girls that starve for attention. In addition, a girl I know is SO obsessed with social media that every time she posts something new, she has to spam her stories incessantly - usually by covering her face on the photo with the words "NEW POST" on it. If that isn't passively reeking for attention, I don't know what is.
