good assessment I have to say but allow me to add a little onto your analysis sir... 1. Man Utd's defensive shape is too wide, and without trigger points...often leaves the space in midfield so easy to exploit. For example even that game against Wolves were the inside box defending was good, midfield wasn't compact enough to stop that Wolves mid running through us the whole night...Solutions (i) halving the pitch City style, congesting one side of the pitch, using touchline as a defender OR (ii) gegenpressing with curved pressing runs, cutting midfield passing lines as well as trigger points such a press on heavy touch by CB or press on pass to Opponent's Midfield Pivot while they maintain a compact and close distance between their zonal defending lines bringing us to the second issue 2. Since Man Utd bought a sweeping keeper, I feel the need for the zonal defending to also be implemented whereby we initiate a high press with the midfield-defensive zonal lines tightly close and Onana sweeping from the back to prevent any long ball counters. But this would require a more speedy and mobile CB pairing of course...Sometimes or rather often times ETH implements a very wide defensive approach which almost seems like a man to man marking which when one player's press is beat the whole defensive system collapses and because of the space between players in the press its hard to track the players running though midfield and it leaves those 2 v 1 situations with our fullbacks. 3. Everyone has to be held accountable to defend, ball watching should not go unpunished...the likes of Rashford and Garnacho spend the whole 90 minutes watching the ball and not pressing each and every time and they are not held accountable for it! our fullbacks put in double shifts for them and this has to be addressed if Man Utd are to have any effective team pressing style.. This makes sense and I would rather say that this makes it obvious. Garnacho and Rashford don't really tuck in to suffocate the opposition's central progression (like Newcastle do for eg) so it makes opponents really easy to pass through our center. My issue is that this might affect our transitions, our quality of counter attacks because it will have to be a 5-4-1. It is usually Case who gets that 1st touch pass to Bruno when we win possession and then he finds our front 3. I really think that we deliberately do not keep the ball to force these transitions and uk allow the opposition to progress through the center so that we win balls in those key areas and rapidly counter. This shape with Casemiro going back as a CB makes more sense if we lose possession and want to defend and then win possession back and keep it, without an emphasis on rapid counters. The problem is we rely heavily on counters because we easily are the top 5-7 attacking transition team in the world. Idt this reliance is going to change this season, possession game is more for next season with 2-3 new players.

I think Casemiro should think about moving to a centre back position as well, he's so good defensively. And plus, he'd be good on tthe ball than your average centre backs as well

I wanna point out a player in Barcelona which i think is a perfect fit for United. Andreas Christensen is in my opinion the most underrated defender in the world. He is so calm and technical on the ball and brilliant passing, and im pretty sure Barcelona would sell him for around 40mil. Please people take a look at him.

hojlund should also fall back in defence but also keep drifting and not keeping central to drag away the positions of the centre backs. Jesus does it quite well but with if hojlund can do the link up like giroud, he would be fantastic and would suit the style and system

Play a 4-3-3 Midfield of Mainoo, Casemiro and either McTominay or Amrabat. Front 3 Rashford Hojlund and Garnacho. Bruno is not a midfielder drop him!!!! But if you have to play him go with a 4-3-1-2 same midfield as above then Bruno behind Hojlund and Garnacho or Rashford. Playing Bruno is causing the gap in midfield he's awful off the ball. And he's the one giving the ball away all the time in bad areas. Bruno's not quick enough to get back and help out he can't tackle either. United don't need all those bodies up front !!!! Hojlund, Rashford and Garnacho is a problem for ANY back 4. I can see what ETH is trying to do winning the ball high with numbers, but once a team gets through that press United are in trouble.

Ten Hag doesn't understand what he's doing, he's all career his used one philosophy and now decides he wants to be 2004 Mourinho.. If this is the style we've settled for then Inzaghi would do a better job than Ten Hag in fact he'll walk in and immediately do what you're saying, make Casemiro a CB and get another DM to play with Mainoo it's so obvious, TOP Managers identify these things quickly and act.
