I think Lisandro Martinez getting injured is one of the biggest reason why we are this bad. He is not just a Centre Back but playmaker at the back. Actually he is even better than our whole midfielder so he is also playmaker at the middle as well. If you look back at the Liverpool of 2020 and Liverpool of 2022-23, you could clearly see that what injury could do to a team especially if Van Dijk is injured. It might actually be the reason why he abandoned playing from the back because of his injury. The sudden downfall of Casemiro is also another big reason for our current form.

Go out on your shield. If ten Hag stucked by his principles and failed, many of us wouldn't be ten Hag out. The fact is he abandoned his principles and style of play for this toothless football. Top managers don't abandon there principles and style of play because of injury crisis bro. I remember Pep playing an undersized Mascherano at Centre Back and Yaya Toure at Centre Back despite never playing there before and style of play never changed. Sir Alex did the same thing with Carrick and still played expansive football. Casemiro has played Centre Back at Real Madrid and it didn't change Real Madrid system. Long story short the manager is scared to be brave.

I am not denying any of those claims but the big problem is that if you go back to Ajax 2018 and 2021-22 era, ETH was a perfect manager for almost every team. A manager that could build a team from very limited budget. He managed to reach the Semi final and imo they should be the one reaching the finals because they were overall much better side than that Tottenham side. They outplayed the likes of Real Madrid, Juventus and Tot at their best. Those managers aren't any better than what ETH looked like those four or five years ago.

De Zerbi is better than ETH!? I would choose the manager who has reached UCL SFs and made Ajax a top club in Europe (you see it's not a given, because PSV and Feyenoord are there) rather than the manager who plays the ball out from the back better. As simple as that. The guy who has made this video is absolutely insane and it's more than idiotic if he speaks about tactical flexibility, and playing the ball out from the back and high inverted fullbacks and all that. Who is playing the ball out from the back and playing a high line? Maguire? Lindelof? Evans? Will Lindelof play like Udogie? Casemiro as a press resistant deep lying player? Seriously? Great insight... but honestly, I saw these kind of videos of Ajax + Erik when we were shopping for him. And with slightly similarly "complex" and "involving " patterns of play highlighted here, the current United players (or ring leaders) are not up to the task and will fail any new manager after 6 - 12 months if these players are not shown the door with or without cash value. So, Erik is still a decent option to give one more try if we are doing player clear out, and one option we already have.

But when you are two years on, you want another manager because results aren't the way you wanted. Who will be your manager when de Zerbi gets the sack in two years time? Nagelsman? Slot? Or going for Mourinho again? What I am saying here is that issues at the club are way bigger than ten Hag. de Zerbi is going to assess each and every player again. The whole thing is repeating itself. Over and over again. It has been going on for the last decade or so. I am not defending anyone here, I am more the type of guy that says keep ten Hag another year instead of sacking him (again as it was with previous managers) The club is a mess, as it has been for decades. Tactically De Zerbi's game model is excellent. My doubts around him are about his ability to manage top players and create a winning mentality/culture. Managing in the pressure cooker of Old Trafford is a different beast. Also, can he be pragmatic enough at times to alter his tactics to exploit the opposition? Or is he to wedded to one way of play? I think this is yet to be seen. My pick would be Unai Emerey, who has shown similar traits to De Zerbi but I also think he has the statesman like personality to manage a top tier club. He's won 4 Europa league titles!

Im not convinced that De Zerbi is a good hire for Man United. His system of baiting the opposition into a press to then counter them only works if opposition teams take the bait. Many of the weaker clubs in the premier league will be happy to stay deep and take the point and i don't think de zerbi has an effective solution to this issue. Brighton losing 3-1 I believe to West Ham comes to mind as an example of this. @@AtlantisFootball I’m highlighting the drop off in Liverpool’s performance last season which saw them finish 5th which was namely due to injuries. But I can just as much argue, Klopp still had enough quality in the squad to finish top 4. The pundits and experts keep on harping on symptoms of Utd’s poor performance. I cannot believe that a manager like ETH who spoke about playing football on the front foot and with control would opt to play kamikaze football. It’s like he said, it’s a calculated risk which he believes is an option in front of him. Of course he is not going to tell everyone in the press that the current crop of players aren’t fit for purpose. In Ajax, his fullbacks were constantly drawing players and making those underlaps and overlaps, causing problems for opponents, in Utd, he have been playing without a natural left back for months. All I’m saying is perhaps we back this manager, save money so we don’t have to pay compensation to the coaching staff with FFP & PSR constraints and instead recruit effectively. We shouldn’t write off people easily, just as how the press wrote of Unai Emery.

Youve mentioned 1 part of the game in possession to determine that de zerbi is a perfect coach for united. Even ignoring how he works OOP, during transition moments, how he his pattern dependant gameplay is limiting at the top level and has no experience at the top level dealing with big egos, you glance over actual issues with his in possession structure. His in possession ideas are depednant on high presses, and he massively struggles with low blocks and mid blocks. Look at the west ham games this season, and his game against roma where he lost 4-0. West ham employed a low block in both games he couldnt deal with and de rossi absolutely outclassed him with a zonal narrow midblock that left him with nothing. more and more top level teams are swithcing to a hybrid press, where they only go to an aggressive man to man press when certain pressing triggers are met, and the rest of the time they sit in a mid block. De zerbis system has nothing for this. If we want to employ a coach capable of teaching the lads to artificially transition, you could employ McKenna, and thered be no less garuntee that he could do the job. De zerbi isnt ready for the top level yet, he needs a Tottenham, a dortmund etc. A stepping stone club to help him deal with his issues in possession.

@@Grumpy33xx yes you do. Mate you can see what a manager is trying to do by the players positioning and the set up of the side from game to game. How do you think people analysis games and managers tactically?

I really want to see how any other manager can implement the same tactics consistently when the defence has 30 over combinations this season AND having a legacy of players from previous eras of managers. Not to mention armchair youtube backseating managers. We see him doing wonders with the youth team. THAT will be his team in future bred from a young age to his system. I think i gonna stop watching these Man Utd analysis videos for this season. Because it's all disguised emotional frustration. Sounds logical at the time but it's seeing the forest but missing the trees. Some things in life no point analysing. It's like when you lost a loved one and your boss comes in to analyse your poor performance and talks about the little tiny steps of the job that can be improved and he has not even bothered to check if something in your personal life has been bothering you.

Mate what you on about? The tactical issues are obvious. You need to grow up. It’s not being an armchair analysis it’s analysing the clear tactical errors. Injuries are not an excuse stop using it. Loads of other managers would massively improve United, if you can’t see that you need to watch more analysis videos on United because that’s just a ridiculous statement. We are closer to Bournemouth in 13th than Tottenham in 5th

Every analyze you make you are ignoring the human factor. Typical Football Manager/Stats type of solutions that will never work. United players are only better than Brightons on paper. But Brighton is the number one brigde to that next huge contract at a bigger club. At United bar a couple younger players they have already achieve it. They are set for life. A big contract also turns these idiots into big egoes. Only a handfull of managers can handle this and continue making these divas motivated after the new manager purple patch, and fight for the big titles. I doubt any laptop manager can do this. They need a massive amount of charisma as well as tactical knowledge.

No because the issues are tactical. The United players are far better than Brighton’s how are you even debating that

@@AtlantisFootball I said and agree about United having the better players. Main issue is their huge contracts and star status or ego if you like. Only a handfull of managers can handle this when the honeymoon period is over. Most of the players at United both earn more money, and are bigger brands than the manager. Imaging this happening in a regular job where the employees make more money and have a higher sosial status than the manager. It would fail more often than not, even if the managers strategy is correct. A manager need both the sosial skills, and tactical knowlegde if he wants to .succeed. I dont believe this is just a tactical issue with Ten Hag. He obviosly lack charisma. He just sounds and looks odd whenever he opens his mouth, and he has not won enough to be trustworthy. I think he has massive issues implementing his ideas to these players. Same thing will likely happend with De Zerbi. His tactics in game will likely look bad as well.

We could resuscitate Cruyff himself and use all the systems possible, old and new, we'll face the same problem. The problem with Ten Hag is not him but the players. You can see it week in week out, young players launch by him stick to the system and perform very well. In another hand, experienced players are disappointing and seem to not care. I support Erik Ten Hag!!

Not at all. This is just what is repeated on fan channels. That squad is more than good enough technically to be in the top 4. Those who had mentality issues have nearly all gone. That’s not the main issues. It’s the tactical set up which is the issue and gets exploited almost every game. A new manager fixes that instantly and we improve
