How my dad and I removed the front of an old 50gal glass tank and upgraded it with nice glass sliding doors!
The total material cost for this project was around $40, but for varying tank sizes it can cost anywhere from 15-50 dollars.
*Here is the caulk that I used for the handles: www.amazon.com/18001-Kwik-Caul...
Good luck, and happy cutting silicone!

Instead of using handles which will always fall of. Use strong clear suction cups. It works great !!

@nikosroom1913
@nikosroom1913 8 жыл бұрын
Thanks! I thought about doing that, I think it would make it easier for using a substrate. You could probably add a metal strip at the bottom of some sort and attach it with silicone... and then maybe the glass could go in front of the strip!

Bonventur cfinisher It was actually a tool for installing cork flooring. Odd thing we had lying around, but it worked. Maybe you could find an equivalent at a hardware store. Yeah, cutting the silicone and removing the top frame took us a good few hours on the first tank we did. It just took time before we developed out strategies. Send me a picture or post a video of your tank when you're done though, I'd love to see how it comes out! :)

tbh yo should have used silicone on all of it. the reason silicone didnt work for you is because you didnt rub it down with rubbing alcohol first. not sure why that works but it does. also helps if you scratch the glass where the handle woulda been and scratched the inside of the handle too would give something for the silicone to grip to

Instead of using silicone would it be possible use hot glue?
@nostrobothnia
@nostrobothnia 4 жыл бұрын
No! Hot glue will NOT hold. It's also not moisture-proof, which it kind of needs to be when making a reptile tank. The silicone needs to be aquarium-grade, so none of those "mold-resistant" ones (they release toxic fumes which are very poisonous to reptiles).
