After countless hours leaning over the fender of a 2nd gen or stretched out across the engine bay of our 3rd gen swaps, I swore that there had to be a better way to adjust the dang GSK's. So in today's video I wanted to share the two best ways to work on the governor springs in you p-pump

Great video!Did this and takes only 2 hours,i put every spring one at the time,and use 2 magnets,just to make sure nothing fells down to pump.Seems difficult first,but pretty easy to do!

Hey Doug, I had a pump worked on it goes on a Mack E-7 in my boat. I can't get a hold of him right no to ask but, the governor reaction is very lazy, in other words going into gear or reverse while moving forward, will stall the engine and it does not start well with no extra throttle. Which direction do I go with the springs, tighter or looser? From what I see in your video, I think it's looser will make it react quicker and not stall. Another guy who I thought would know said tighter. Hmmm yup. Thanks

@@70440charger Doug, haha well that was a while ago now. I had that pump worked on and they said it was out of adjustment, I hadn't put it back on yet. I am actually using an E9 now which I really like. You can see on my channel if you like. Thanks for the reply.

How did u get the a/c compressor to lock up ? I have an 2003 with a 97 12valve swap I have a tach signal and I’ve charged the system with freon but I can’t get the clutch to lock up any suggestions I’ll take any help I can get

is the very outer spring the idol spring? witch springs actually control the max rpm? I have searched all over the internet and I cannot find a good diagram of the governor assembly on the p7100 and was curious if you knew

Thanks for the comment! The outer spring is the idle spring and as far as the which spring controls the max RPM, I don't know, but I just asked Weston Shupe over @ Infinite Performance ( On youtube @ torque source). He said that it is not just one spring that handles the max RPM, it is the combination of all of the rest of the springs combined. Hope that helps some!

so the biggest spring is the idol spring and the three center springs control your rpm is what im understanding form this. I really appreciate the reply and research on your part

Maybe you can give me some ideas...Im trying to find out what version of P pump I have. Im basically trying to adjust it because I have no power beyond idle. Going up a hill is insane. I mean, any incline is a pain outside of first gear. Its a bus, with a MAN D2156 engine, flat 6 (10.35 liter). Original documentation I have is either unclear, missing, or in Hungarian or Russian. I have a feeling the engine is much older too, as in 1969 (weird story as its factory original to a bus built in 1993...) Im basically writing up my own repair manuals for this thing because a lot of things I just cant do in a driveway (it is a 40 foot bus after all...) Thanks

The best person I know of to ask about that is Weston Shupe over at Infinite Performance. Here's his website....www.infiniteperf.com/ He knows more about pumps and injectors anyone else I know! Give him a call! He is busy, so keep trying, but be respectful of his time when you do get him on the phone! Best of Luck!

@@70440charger Thanks a lot! I will gather up more info, and give him a call. I have to scrap up a lot of crap off the pump, and see where I can even find serial numbers or what not. Going off manuals may not be enough or correct (a problem with communist tech manuals), so I dont waste his time. Thanks for the site!

That is a great question Matt. As you probably already know, p7100 pumps have quite a few things that go into controlling its total output. But even though there are other things also at play, assuming the other areas have also been taken care of, tighten up or swapping governor springs can change top speed any where from a little bit to a lot! Just depends on what course was taken. For example, Just tightening the GS's down 2 clicks can but top speed up some and increase throttle response. Swapping the stock GS's out for a 3k kit will probably get you a little you a little more and a set of 4ks will put you at a whole new level. But remember that this is assuming that the other common p7100 mods have been done. If they haven't been done then fuel quantity will become the limiting factor for top speed and not just RPM. This is just a quick glance at what plays into it, ( and I am not claiming to be the worlds authority) But I hope it helps some! Doug
