Yeah I was able to bring my nephew in as regular package driver right when covid hit but sadly he didn’t last a week his a little over weight and the walking killed him the supervisor on road was cool enough that give him a few day to good but my nephew said hell no this job is not for everyone they think is a piece of pie but that’s not the case I’m glad you got in just got to be patient and hold on for 4 years till you hit top rate after that money is good congrats

I’ve been working at UPS as a part-time worker for nearly 4 years and I’m only 22. I’ve been asked about being a supervisor multiple times and was notified about the bid for driving in the summer. I’m definitely considering on that once I’m done with College.

Congrats on tackling college, great accomplishment! My personal opinion is that drivers will always have more leverage than members of management. As a part time driver back in 2014, I was asked multiple times about going into management. I love my job and don't regret staying a driver at all. Good Luck and keep me updated!!

I was an off the street hire but had 7 years of experience with FedEx so only had to make some minor adjustments as far as habits, did really well during peak management even said positive thinks about how I was one of the better new hires they seen in awhile, unfortunately I still got laid off but my supervisor still encouraged me to wait it out when volume picks up, luckily I have temporary work to hold me over but the wait is still inconvenient.

@@BrickedOutMedia it never said seasonal, management did mention that layoffs “could” happen after peak but never used the word seasonal with me and the other new hires and after peak they made it seem like if we kept up the good work will be kept then 2nd week January we’re told will be oncall weekdays but still needed for Saturdays, now as of last week we’re all laid off and not even on for Saturdays until further notice but told to contact them in spring.

It can take a while. Doesn't mean it always does. Do not let this discourage you. I went from warehouse worker to driver in less then 9 months. Yes less then 9 months. I actually received my driver position and was back from McKinney TX before my benefits kicked in. You get your benefits at 9months.

Oh I just applied for seasonal package driver lol. What’s the difference w that vs part time package handler? I’m coming from Usps so driver just made sense given my experience delivering parcels as well as mail

@@longjonz88 Seasonal package driver means you’ll drive for peak season. That job would expire after Christmas. Part time package handler is a PERMANENT position which can eventually lead you to landing a permanent driving position. But if you get the seasonal driver position, you would have to apply for the part time package handler position after the seasonal spot is up. I hope this helps, good luck!

@@EmmanuelBastien thanks for your comment/question. Keep signing the driver bid list every quarter. The bid list is posted the last 2 weeks of every quarter per contract. Make sure you sign it every time. Good luck and stay in touch.

I just got in on preload hope it doesn't take long but the hub I'm in isn't that big I got my cdl so if something comes up I'll be ready

Looks like you're in the right spot, just a matter of time. Learn as much as you can in your position. Also, if you absolutely want to drive, which I assume that you do, do not go into management. They may ask you if you're good, but just say no, that you're waiting to drive. Good Luck!!

Appreciate it another question how long to you have to be employed in order to transfer to a closer hub then the one your at

@@jehoiakimsmith3152 GOOD QUESTION. Union employees really don't get to "transfer" unless you have a "life event", so it typically doesn't happen. You would have to pretty much quit that building and reapply for the facility you want to work at, however I wouldn't recommend it because there's no guarantee you'll get hired there. I hope that makes sense.

Just like any job, you can't apply until there's something posted to apply for. There's no shortcuts.

Yeah for some people not everybody. 14 years with the company my center makes it very difficult to become a driver, its all favoritism no matter how hard you try you still fail because they want you to fail. For those who succeed, my hats off to you, but this video is a little misleading

I get it. Putting yourself in position to become a driver is simple and easy, but you passing everything and having what it takes is different. That goes with just about everything.

No CDL required. Just a clean regular license.

@@BrickedOutMedia I can’t sit down for longer than 10 mins without pain from the 3 herniated disc the job gave me, multiple surgeries, haven’t been able to work due to being overworked for so long, UPS will hire lawyers and do anything but pay your for workers comp injuries so hey if you think you can do almost 20 years and not get hurt ever more power to ya. Just remember they don’t give a crap about you it’s all a front they will have supervisors kiss your butt and prop you up because they are using you. I would love to walk away and plan to until then I’ll fight UPS to fix me so I can actually enjoy life and maybe sit down with family at dinner again one day….
