This is exactly the video I needed to watch today. I oiled the US Open 2022 37ft flat pattern, and the best I can shot was a 160 was 9-spares and 2 splits. I went crazy on the lanes, but the pattern really did test my patience. I would recommend everyone to give the pattern a shot, it really shows you how versatile you should be to battle the toughest of conditions. Thanks for the amazing content, keep it going, and I hope I get the chance to see you again sometime soon :)

You guys must be reading my mind. My man B Rad says it all... picking up spares is absolutely critical to carrying a decent 200+ score at the end .. during our shadow practice, I will throw once or twice at the 10 and/or 7 just to practice. The reason being is, you could hit the pocket all night but you may be leaving corner pins and scratching your head but you gotta knock them spares down. Keep it up guys.. so far my favorite pattern is Big Ben. I shot 911, my teammate shot 990 in 4 games for 1901 scratch.

I’ve heard of bowlers using the practice time to create a buffer/track on the out of bounds part of the lane using their strongest ball. They’ll use the first half of practice to purposely miss right. That supposedly creates a track so if you play your normal line and miss right, the ball can hook a little more towards the pocket.

Being a first year bowler this honestly really helped me on reading the pattern on the lane to help find where I need to be instead of ultimately starting too far left and really trying to open my angles up off the bat. Being a 2 hander I’m kind of “afraid” to play straighter but this will definitely help me in practice on league night to find a good line quickly to hopefully put up some good scores.

It would have been nice to see one further left to see if you still got skid through the fronts or if you got early hook. But otherwise great advice and video. I just got done with Bear and TOC/Don Johnson and did something very similar.

Brad’s first shot pretty much sums up most of my shots in league. I can consistently hit the pocket but sometimes it comes up light and other times it might come in a little high. In order for me to strike, I have to be pretty accurate since I have low revs and not a whole lot of strength. Btw Brad and Kyle, if you guys are looking for a logo change, I have a few ideas. I’ve been getting back into drawing recently, so any design ideas, I’ll do my best to come up with something. 😉

When i'm bowling on something flat and heavy volume outside I usually throw something pin down and more in the middle to start with, or something low rpg with a 1000 or 2000 surface on it. Of course that's to start to get a read.

So if you’re bowling on this pattern and you start out that far left would you have to move more left or right for game 2 or 3?

Wow, this lane behaves a lot like the POS burnt up house shot my league plays on, weirdly enough. I often go right, slow it down, and try and get the shape into the pocket, basically working with the shots that Brad started off with. Seeing Kyle's shot, and Brad's adjustments, I should maybe play a bit more middle and don't try and break at the 10 board, but more like 15 or so. Keep it tight and in the middle of the lane. Interesting! I don't know if I got the right lesson out of this, but I hope everyone else learned that YOU GOTTA MAKE YOUR SPARES!

Serious comment, what I do as a super low rev and VERY speed dominant bowler is do what I call "riding the track." I target 15 at the arrows, put my target at the breakpoint at 10, and feed it there with a super aggressive ball with TONS of surface (500 at the MOST, usually 360 or 240) throwing it as hard as I can and also lofting it to the arrows. Usually yields about a 185 average or so with 1.5 or so opens per game without much effort. OR! I play right up the gutter with a pearl ball if the house I'm at has topography that allows it. They had US open in a no tap tournament I was at, averaged like 220 doing that.

Wouldn't on fresh though you'd want a strong solid and not a weak polished pearl to start? with a pattern like this? Or Urethane?
@mutated__donkey5840
@mutated__donkey5840 Ай бұрын
The only thing is you want to stay as far right as possible with those strong covers so you leave head oil for later. With solids or urethane, you take oil away from the fronts and make it impossible to get the ball down the lane later, even with a polished pearl, so you don’t want to play in with those.
