This cool and colorful Lego table is a great project to build for kids and a great project to get them involved in. The table is small and lightweight so you can take it with you on the go. Paint the top with some chalkboard paint and make a multi-purpose kids center..

Glad to see you back in the shop again my friend! Great build of the table! I think for the legs you actually need the groves to separate the single pieces, as it would look like a striped one piece leg without them. I love the idea that you donate the table to a daycare center, but what are we, without playing from time to time, I think as 'grown ups' a lot of us forgot how to play properly, except we woodworker, as some of us, like me, start projects without any intention and in the end we're happy about the result, that's what playing is all about! Greetings from Good Old Germany Peter

I knew I recognized that face somewhere! No you are not to old for Legos because they have the mechanized accessories sets that the child in us can still enjoy. But for now, donating is good! Welcome back my friend. Maybe you could do a short segment telling us what has and is going on in your life now?

I don't totally agree with the one suggesting to not cut a groove in between the legos. Stack two pieces and feel with your thumb, it's not perfect, in fact there is a slight divot in between. I would either route or do as you did, but not use black but the same color as the legos. The light itself will give you the shade you need. Great project man, and it's great to see some projects from you again, I have really missed you :-)

So great to have new video's Laney. I'm still waiting to see some lathe video's you promised last year. And on a side note, speaking from experience, I would NOT recommend ever painting anything with chalkboard paint. It's a dust nightmare and not fun to clean up chalk dust from every nook and cranny in a 15' radius. Ask me how I know... :-)

Paint the black on the bare wood. Sand so that only the black remains in the recesses. Then, tape off and spray paint the colors.

Can't wait to make for my grandkids. What I was thinking was if you sprayed the groove first without taping off then sand. Hand paint the other part?

Laney, did you make any thoughts about the scale of these "blocks" for the legs ? Your leg appears to be a 2x2 knob piece. Each knob distance is 8mm (minus .1 mm on each side), so 15.8 mm native. You have 4.25 inch width, so factor 6.83. Height natively is 9.6mm so in your scale 65.5 mm or 2.58 inches - just below 2 19/32" Just wondering - from a math geek ;) Very nice build. Like the detachable plates. I think you could sell these for money if you started a small production. Including some small chairs, make in the "minifig head" style round blocks.
@havenisse2009
@havenisse2009 9 жыл бұрын
Builders in non-USA should know that plates are 250x250 mm. Not sure if the "10x10 inch" mentioned here is actually 10x10 or just a tiny bit under. Laney may confirm ?
@LaneyShaughnessy
@LaneyShaughnessy 9 жыл бұрын
havenisse2009 The Lego Base plates are exactly 10x10 which is why you want the table top to be 20-1/8x20-1/8 square, to leave a small amount of play to easily remove the base plates.
@havenisse2009
@havenisse2009 9 жыл бұрын
Laney Shaughnessy interesting that there are two versions with a difference of 4mm side length. So the eastern hemisphere would have to do 503x503 mm square to leave same room.
