Thank you for the 4 detailed videos on this octagon table build, Laney! I just finished mine (all pressure treated lumber), with only a couple modifications to the seats. I secured the 1.5"x1.5"x9" boards to the outer vertical 2x6x14" seat legs and added additional 1.5"x1.5"x9"s to the outer undersides of the seat boards to help prevent lifting over time. I alao cut small 45*s on the seat board ends. Otherwise, everything turned out exactly as I hoped, no surprises. The sleds and jigs you used really made the the process easy and resulted in consistent finish cutting. This table is heavy, approximately 340 lbs. I estimate about 12-16 hours to complete by myself, taking my time and referring back to the videos from time to time. Thanks again!!!

I just really wanted to thank you for taking the time to make such thorough video of this process. I was able to document all of the specs and steps from your instructions and I finished the table without any surprises. I'm not a very frequent woodworker (wish I had more time) and learned a lot of great techniques through the videos... I really appreciate you posting. I too had really wanted one of these octagon tables and I'm thrilled that we'll have this one at the cabin for Memorial Day!! I love the table - Great job!

Nice table build Laney. From my experience with using treated wood in building treated wood is that it moves a lot with changing conditions. One thing I would add is a 2x2 about an 1.5" from the end of the cantilever seat boards to keep them moving together. I have had some board curl more than .5" with a 12" overhang.
@robertohughesyo
@robertohughesyo 9 жыл бұрын
The table looks great and I would leave it as it is rather than treating it. The only thing that I would question is the placing of the 2x2ish seat supports. They should have been on the other side of the leg for a wider base to fix seat to.

So I did this project and love our new picnic table. It’s not as big as it looks in the video, but it is perfect. It is also a tank. If we ever get caught in a hurricane, tie everything down to this table, it’s not going anywhere. I am still trying to find the plans to build that table saw jig. I used my mitre saw. It’s probably not as perfect of cuts that I would have had if I used that jig.
