In this video I will show you how I ran the wiring for the brake lights, running lights, electric brakes, and the 7 pin connector. As always I try to include some useful tricks that you can use for your build. You can click on the product links below to see what I used.

This is only the first video I've watched on your build so a few of my comments might be premature. First, thank you for viewing this process. I've made a few videos saved frankly sure because of the difficulty I encountered with editing, etc. So kudos for this! Second, i wish that you had gone into more detail about your wiring process, re, crimping, serial connections, final connections, etc. Some of us watch this to pick up pointers. Like the electric brakes wiring details and such. But, I don't mean to overly criticize, just saying it would have been useful information.

Woot! Eddie is beginning to look like a tiny house. It is obvious that you are researching each system to make certain he will be safe, street legal as well as warm, comfortable and long lived - and handsome of course.

You have pretty good craftsman skills. You are very methodical and meticulous. You created something you like and have the satisfaction of doing it yourself. I am old school like you. It is nice and I should like it because I was really watching myself. Thing is I do not like it, seems heavy, will not hold up and is inferior to a commercial trailer. You could have purchased an Air-stream Bambi for the amount you spent on time/materials.

you should use grommets for those electrical wiring holes, otherwise you risk electrifying all Eddy's metal

Thanks for sharing. Great job. A clean work place is a safe workplace. I would recommend using polytuff or ENT to sleave over the exterior wires running along the frame for some added protection. keep on keeping on.

If I may: those junction boxes are not weatherproof at all and water will eventually infiltrate inside and inevitably cause electrical problems. In my project, I ran the 7 pin cable right inside the trailer through a watertight cable gland then I installed the junction box also inside where it will be fully protected from elements. I ran two wires from the junction box and pass them through the floor using again cable glands to connect the trailer brakes. Great video, looking forward watching the rest of the build project!

@@DrenalinAdventures When working as an electrician, I found it is usually more important that water can make it's way out then sealing perfectly. Often times I would drill an escape hole on the bottom to ensure the water had a way to leave.

What I have learned building trailers is to put the junction box on the inside of the tongue rail so that rocks from the tires wouldn't hit it. Good build, I want to build a 5th wheel some day.

Trailer is looking great ! Just a comment about wiring: I don't know about Canada, but in USA, when you have electric brakes, the trailer must have a "breakaway switch and a trailer mounted battery" to activate the brakes should the trailer become disconnected from the tow vehicle while in motion. That is one of the 7 pins on the connector, it provides power to the battery to maintain it's charge. The seventh pin is for backup lights, if fitted.

I would run a ground wire(white) to all of the lights and to the terminal block. Les chance of dissimilar metal corrosion and loosing a ground, also use dielectric grease at all electrical connections

I have used split loom tubing to further protect wires under the trailer. A wrap or electrical tape every 40cm is good enough to secure the wires inside. You can always cut the tape and insert more wires or remove wires in the future. The split loom is held in place by the wire clamps you have already used.

I understand the aesthetics when it comes to your marker lights but should any of them crack or need replacing it could be quite a job if the walls are finished unless you are goig to leave access for them. Maybe consider buying a few extra now just in case they can't be found in the future. Don't be fooled by LED claims either, they constantly fail as well. Also when it comes to wiring I suggest you should try to avoid crimped connections as they usually fail from vibrations on vehicles, far better to solder and use heat shrink tubing(dielectric grease keeps out corrosion but heat shrink tubing is better) especially when on the outside of a vehicle.
@bodie395
@bodie395 2 жыл бұрын
I'd have put a little DiElectric grease on wires as would help with any water intrusion into these connectors and eliminate any possible corrosion of the terminals.
