Love this. One of the things I hate about a nUmber of these videos is that they are not geared towards someone that doesn’t even know what a bus is, And I get it, there are levels to this. I know this will show how new I am to this but I leaned more in the first 3 minutes of this video than the 300 hours of related topics I’ve watched. Great job explaining this. Now I can intake this info and create a sound profile because I know how to take advantage of this part. Thank you.

With all the bullshit KZfaq tutorials out there, THIS GUY ACTUALLY KNOWS HOW TO CREATE A WORTHWHILE TUTORIAL. He actually thought out in advance how the tutorial would proceed. He was totally methodical and very informative in teaching an elementary DAW concept to new users. Not one of these wanna be KZfaq stars who is more concerned with promoting their own generally "less than stellar musical knowledge". My hat is off to this young man for delivering something that is worthwhile to new Logic users. I will look forward to the future Logic videos he makes. Thank you

For that I would actually create what I call an FX track (aux) specifically for your reverb. Then you can use the sends on each track to send as much or as little as you like: kzfaq.info/get/bejne/sK93icel3MveYIU.html

Great video and very clear. I am curious if the bussing is assigned when you group the tracks or if that is something that still needs to be manually done. Also, when stacking the tracks, are we still able to work on individual effects for certain tracks or is this only possible by assigning them a different bus number input as you showed with the drum tracks - just clarifying. Finally, what is the difference between grouping the tracks in the mixer(as mentioned in your reply to John Campanale) and stacking the tracks? Is stacking just a way to organize your tracks (by voice part or instrument?) Appreciate your help and reply.
@SojournerTracks
@SojournerTracks 3 жыл бұрын
Great question Margaret! Thanks for watching. The terms are very interchangeable and therefore confusing. - A track group (accessed by the group button in the mixer window) is for editing audio together like time adjusting multiple drum tracks at all once. - an aux group uses routing (buses) to connect tracks together for the purpose of mixing and effects (and yes you can apply plugins to all the included tracks at once on the aux channel, and also still apply effects on the individual tracks). - a track stack is just a fancy aux group. The routing is the same but Logic sets it up for you with the added benefit of that little drop down stack in the arrangement window. The stack header is the aux track where you can apply effects to all included tracks at once. As someone who doesn’t do much editing of live drums, I hardly ever use track groups. However I couldn’t live without aux/bus routing! Hopefully that helps!

This is a great technique! Do you do any processing, ie eq, compression, vocal tuning with the first inserts too? Or do you do all of that in the busing?
@SojournerTracks
@SojournerTracks 2 жыл бұрын
Great question! Yes. I generally save bussing for what would be considered more “wet” fx like delays and reverbs(but certainly not limited to that), I will put more core fx like eq, compression, and tuning directly on the track. Keep in mind that bussing creates a copy of the signal for processing so if you were to do your tuning on an aux track you would leave the original signal unaffected.

Luke - this is really helpful as I am still learning to use Logic. One thing that I'm not clear about is how best to route Guitar Rig through to the Stereo Out. I am using Guitar Rig 6 - Would you suggest to place G Rig on the main input channel as an Audio FX ( Just under Input) or is it better to Bus the clean sound to a suitable Bus and then insert GRig on the bus, followed below by other effects etc. Or does it not make any difference? Any advice gratefully received. Thank you - I've subscribed!
@SojournerTracks
@SojournerTracks Жыл бұрын
I’m so glad to hear that! Good to have you along. Guitar Rig is taking place of a physical amp and cab. It can be helpful to think of it that way as you set up your chain. It should be the first thing your guitar signal hits (just like it would a real amp). I would place it directly on your guitar track in the very first slot. Of course you can set it up on a bus if you like. That will mean that you have a clean DI signal and a parallel amp model signal. I have seen people use that DI signal to blend with their amp tone but that’s a little too fancy for me :)

@SojournerTracks

Thanks! There are a couple ways: you can reset the output routing to “stereo out”. If it’s routing in a “track stack”, you can just click and drag the track out of the group in the main arrangement window.

thanks for sharing. My question is what if you want to do the complete opposite....you have a drum kit that you've separated into individual tracks by means of 'separate by note pitch' so you can individually manipulate each one instead of all them. Right now I have 10 tracks of percussion from a kit that that i cannot manipulate without effecting all of them.
@SojournerTracks
@SojournerTracks 3 жыл бұрын
Thanks for the question! So there are instrument groups using combined routing (like described here) and then there are editing groups. The latter sounds like what you have going on. In the mixer window, between “output” and “automation” should be a “group” tab. Tracks assigned to these groups will following editing together - flex, trim, gain etc. Check that group tab for the tracks in question.

Will it still pan the individual instruments as you set it, or once you've stacked them together , do you only have the option to pan the whole thing (AKA all Drums) left or right? thanks
@SojournerTracks
@SojournerTracks 5 ай бұрын
You can pan each track individually inside the stack and also then pan the whole stack on the aux track. It may be counter productive if you try to hard pan the stack but the instrument channels are panned opposite but it just kinda depends on what you’re trying to do.

Hi, a question ! 1.I have a number of audio files mounted in Logic Pro X. They are all routed to the master bus (output 1/2) and I can monitor them without any problems. 2. Now I want to record a bass track for which I like to make a headphone mix. Here I decide what I want to hear and how loud I want to hear it. 3. For the headphone mix I have sent all the signals (including the bass signal) to a bus and this bus sent to the outputs 7/8 of my interface. 4. I have connected my headphones to output 7/8 and I can hear all signals comfortably except for the bass signal. This is the problem. Why doesn't Logic let me hear the bass signal when the track is armed? I can hear through outputs 7/8 the input signal of my bass by pressing the i box, but when I arm the track to record, then I can't hear it in my headphones. Can you tell me why this is? Thank you. Raffael
@SojournerTracks
@SojournerTracks Жыл бұрын
It’s hard to say without seeing your setup. Are you monitoring through plugins? Is software monitoring enabled? Or low latency mode? Are you set to direct monitoring on your interface? Will the bass track record audio even though you can’t hear it? Hopefully one of those things gets you started in the right direction!

I heard it has something to do with MIDI and needing to equal 127. But either way it’s a minute difference. I wouldn’t worry about trying to be that precise with hard pans.

@SojournerTracks
@SojournerTracks 3 жыл бұрын
So you’re sending all your tracks to a group track before it goes to the stereo out? If I’m understanding the question correctly, that would not get in the way of creating subgroups or side chains. All of the routing options would still be available to you, you would just need to route the outputs back to your output bus as they will default to the stereo out. Hopefully that helps 🤷‍♂️. Thanks for watching!
