In this video, a Weingartz expert explains how to change the oil on a Honda Generator EU2000i.
Safety precautions - Before performing any repair or maintenance on a generator:
• Turn fuel valve on top of the fuel cap to off - prevents any spilling, any leakage or fire as the machine spills
Tools you’ll need:
• Flathead screwdriver
• Oil drain pan
• Rag
• Quart of Honda’s 10w 30
Here’s what to do:
• Run the generator to an operating temperature in order to ensure that everything drains properly, and you get a faster drain when you’re draining the oil
• Use the flathead screwdriver to access the oil. Remove the access panel on the side
• In the bottom left hand corner, you will see a cap, which also acts as an oil dipstick, oil fill, and oil drain
• To drain the oil, remove the cap
• Tip the generator on its side and let the oil flow out into a drain pan
• Once it’s done draining, tip the machine back upright and use your rag to clean up any excess oil that spilled on the housing
• Refill the generator with Honda 10w 30, they recommend 13.58 ounces to fill the machine or fill the machine up to the very top level of the threads
• Once you fill the machine to the proper level, push the dipstick in until it’s at the threads and pull it back out to see where the oil level is on the stick
• Once you have the right oil level, screw the cap back into the threads
• Again, use you rag and make sure any excess oil is cleaned off the generator before you put that access cover back on
• Put the access panel back on
• Turn the generator on, choke all the way to the on position, and turn the fuel valve back on
• Start the generator and let it warm up for 10 to 15 seconds and then take the choke off
• You’ll notice a green light on the front of the generator - this light shows that the generator is making voltage
• The generator is equipped with a low oil alert so if you ever run the machine low on oil it will shut itself down to save the engine
• There is also a light on the front of the generator that indicates why the machine shut down
• If the oil is low you will see a red light

We have used the kzfaq.infoUgkxOTeIs0vv4_9B5hsmnLsk9r930uDQLu_Y for probably 30 hours with our camper and it’s been great! The noise level is really only noticeable when running the AC and other appliances like the microwave, hair dryer, or coffee pot. It’s not huge like other ones and it has wheels so even at 90lbs, I can move it!

Yeah, the design of those generators sucks... I cut myself a "ramp" out of an old plastic bottle, so the oil doesnt run all over the case anymore.

Thank you so much for this simple easy to follow video. Our generator (well used) was starting to sound terrible and really struggling. My hubby is away working, we live in the country so I don't have anyone local to help. Followed step by step and after leaving it to run outside for half an hour (making sure it didnt explode) it sounds soooo much better. My hubby is going to be stoked that 1. It sounds and seems to work better 2. I didn't blow the house up

If it shows "low oil" can you just add oil or do you have to drain it? Also how should you dispose of the used oil?
@weingartz
@weingartz 4 жыл бұрын
Adding oil is fine if it shows low oil but you should still do your regular maintenance on schedule even if you have added new oil between changes. As for disposal, most oil change shops will take it or you can google where to take it in your area to be recycled. Hope that helps!

Andy, thanks for watching. It sounds like the jets are clogged. This can be resolved with a carburetor rebuild which is part of our generator tune-up package weingartz.com/Generator-Service. This will unclog the jets and allow your generator to stay running.

It seems like it left off the hard part, the reason why I watched this video. You can't see the level of the oil as your pouring it in. How do you get it to the fill point without overflowing and spilling? Tips or tricks for that was what I was looking for.
@weingartz
@weingartz 5 жыл бұрын
When adding oil to your machine, when the oil touches the threaded area you can stop adding oil. If the oil does not come too far past the threaded area, the oil will not overflow and spill. When adding oil, you can also use a funnel or a nipple cap bottle to add oil slowly instead of pouring it in directly from a bottle. This will help control the flow of the oil into the machine, also preventing you from overflowing.

I don't know how I did it wrong, but my oil change was a disaster on par with the Exxon Valdez- oil everywhere. Also it smelled like there was gasoline in the oil.
@weingartz

You may want to check the carburetor and float. It's possible gas could be flowing out of the carburetor.

I hate the design on these inverter generators. Changing the oil is always a big mess, because the oil is running down the side, below and into the generator...
@weingartz
@weingartz 4 жыл бұрын
They can be a bit of a pain but there are different options for making the change easier. We have seen some screw in tube funnels that seem to work well for both draining and refilling but unfortunately we do not sell them at our stores. I am sure with a little research into something like that you can find a kit that works for you. If that is too much of a hassle or you can't find what you need you can always bring it in and we will do it for you so you don't even have to worry about the mess at all.
